After darkness falls the mood is set. A beat up black Nissan 300ZX rammed a tree in his front yard. With the car hood up, smoke emanates from it. A male victim lies lifeless in the driver’s seat and a strobe light illuminates the crash scene.
This is the typical ghoulish fare prefers when scaring his guests.
This year for the first time he decided to decorate his yard and invite the public over for some frightful fun. It can even be described as good-natured fun.
described how one young girl, who was too frightened to enter the haunted maze with the 15 or more actors there to scare, braved her way through it with his help.
“We stopped the whole show,” . “Put everybody on hold, gave her a special lantern that she could take through the show and everybody took their masks off.
“Nobody did anything scary. It was just her, her mom and aunt who came in and we walked them all the way through the graveyard, and she had a time.”
After that introduction, he said she walked through a couple more times while everything was lit up and in action without a problem.
But because some children and more sensitive folk might get overwhelmed during the five- to 10-minute trek through the cemetery, has set aside Thursday evening as a tamer experience.
“You have to adapt to some people’s levels so that everybody gets equal enjoyment out of it,” he said.
Then there are those thrill seekers that get what’s coming to them.
From the reaper’s walk to the hangman’s gallows, there’s enough to keep all senses working overtime.
Through the massacre maze to the cemetery and on to chemical alley and the doll of death exhibit, each has its own way to spike a person’s heart rate.
“We know the people who want a scare. We pinpoint those guys right off the bat. You can pick them out in a crowd pretty easy,” .
All of the wood and burlap to design the maze, the cemetery gate and costumes were bought by , and in turn, some businesses donated supplies on top of his expensive purchases.
At one hardware store, he spent more than $1,000 in Halloween decorations.
