Valley of the Moon | Valle de la Luna | La Paz, Bolivia | DJI Mavic Pro | Sony A7RII
Situated just 10km from downtown La Paz, the Valley of the Moon feels like another universe compared to Bolivia's busy capital. Visiting the valley was one of the coolest experience of our time in Bolivia and we are super excited to share the footage of this unique attraction with you in this video.
The valley is not really a valley but an area where erosion has destroyed the majority of a clay mountain, leaving behind tall spires. The different sides of the mountain are different colors, creating crazy optical illusions on the spires.

Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) La Paz, Bolivia
On our first full day in La Paz, we stopped at Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). It was actually not a planned stop, but it was somewhere that I really wanted to visit. Hilton, Emilee, and I walked around the area and took in the beautiful landscape. We were lucky enough to hear a local musician playing traditional instruments that really added to the atmosphere. It's an amazing place to visit!!

Valley of the Moon, La Paz, Bolivia
Valley of the Moon, La Paz, Bolivia.
Valley de la Luna (Moon Valley), isn’t actually a valley at all, but a maze of canyons and giant spires. The formations, composed mainly of clay and sandstone, were created by the persistent erosion of mountains by the area’s strong winds and rains. What remains is a serene setting, full of wonder and intrigue.
One of Valley de la Luna’s most breathtaking features is its varied pallet, ranging from clear beige tones to sections of red and dark purple. This natural phenomena is due to the great variance in mineral content between each individual mountain, creating colorful compositions and impressive optical illusions on the eroded hillsides.

This is one of the most amazing geological features I have seen. It ranks with the Fairy Chimneys of Cappodocia and Bryce Canyon (USA).
The Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna), is located in the small village of Mallasa about 10 kilometres southwest of La Paz, is a very unique landscape filled with rock formations that have been formed through thousands of years of erosion.

Flying a Phantom 3 Advanced series from DJI, at an altitude of about 80 meters. You can see parts of Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) with its unique formations due to erosion, located in Mallasa Zona Sur of La Paz Bolivia, where climate is much warmer and comfortable and not as high as the city of La Paz and El Alto, where it can get as high as 4500 meters above sea level and feels much colder.

Valle de la Luna, La Paz Bolivia
Valle de la Luna
Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) is situated about 10 kilometers from downtown La Paz, in the Pedro Domingo Murillo Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia. It comprises an area where erosion has worn away the majority of a mountain, composed primarily of clay rather than rock, leaving tall spires. It is similar to another zone of La Paz that is known as El Valle de las Animas (The Valley of the Souls). It is an important site of the famous holiday, Dias de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Because the mineral content of the mountains varies greatly between individual mountains, the sides of the mountains are different colors, creating striking optical illusions. A majority of them are a clear beige or light brown color, but some are almost red, with sections of dark violet.
