Egypt. Luxor ,Tombs of the nobles.
Another great day walking around the area known as the tombs of the nobles, on the west bank of the Nile river in Luxor Egypt.
The Valley of the Nobles (Deir el-Medina?), Luxor, Egypt
EGYPT: Valley of the Kings - Luxor
The Valley of the Kings is a valley in Egypt where rock cut tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom (the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties of Ancient Egypt).
The valley stands on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes (modern Luxor), within the heart of the Theban Necropolis. It consists of two valleys, East Valley (where the majority of the royal tombs are situated) and West Valley (only one tomb is open to the public).
The Valley was used for primary burials for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC. It contains at least 63 tombs, beginning with Thutmose I (or possibly earlier, during the reign of Amenhotep I) and ending with Ramesses X or XI, although non-Royal burials continued in usurped tombs.
Only about 20 of the tombs actually contain the remains of kings. The remains of nobles and of the royal family, together with unmarked pits and embalming caches, make up the rest. Around the time of Ramesses I (ca. 1301 BC) construction commenced in the separate Valley of the Queens.
The royal tombs are decorated with scenes from Egyptian mythology and give clues as to the beliefs and funerary rituals of the period. Almost all of the tombs seem to have been opened and robbed in antiquity, but they still give an idea of the opulence and power of the pharaohs.
The tombs were constructed and decorated by the workers of the village of Deir el-Medina. The daily lives of these workers are quite well known and are recorded in tombs and official documents.
In modern times the valley has become famous for the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun (with its rumours of the curse of the pharaohs), and is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. In 1979, it became a World Heritage Site, along with the rest of the Theban Necropolis. Exploration, excavation and conservation continues in the valley.
Most of the tombs are not open to the public (18 of the tombs can be opened, but they are rarely open at the same time), and officials occasionally close those that are open for restoration work. Tour guides are no longer allowed to lecture inside the tombs, and visitors are expected to proceed quietly and in single file through the tombs. This is to minimize time in the tombs and prevent the crowds from damaging the surfaces of the decoration.
El Qurn is the highest point (420 m) in the Theban Hills. It has an almost pyramidal shape when viewed from the entrance to the Valley of the Kings, and therefore some Egyptologists believe it may have been the reason for choosing the location as a royal necropolis.

A videography ticket (EP 300) is needed to film inside the tombs.

Tomb of Rekmire, Valley of the Nobles, Luxor
A lovely little tomb. No electric light is installed so the guardians use the ancient method of reflecting the sun into the tomb using a mirror. That explains why the light is rather flickery.

EGYPT 474 - MENNA'S TOMB, T.T. 69 *Valley of the nobles VII* (by Egyptahotep)
VALLEY of The NOBLES VII *T.T. 69*:
The tomb of Menna (TT69) is located in the necropolis of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna and is one of the most beautiful of them..This Tomb is one of a group of tombs which date to the end of the reign of Thutmoses IV and the beginning of the reign of Amenhetep III. and is in the part known as the upper enclosure.
Menna was Scribe .during the reign of Thutmose IV ( XVIII Dynasty) pharaoh. Menna's wife, Hennutawi, was a Chantress of Amun.
The tomb is of the classical style of the private tombs found on the West Bank at Luxor (ancient Thebes). This tomb is Tshaped, although when the plan is viewed from the entry it appears as an inverted T. Like so many of these tombs, it consists of an outer courtyard, entry corridor, a transverse first chamber, leading to a rear longitudinal second chamber,
EGYPT 478 - ROY & SHUROY TOMBS T.T. 255 & T.T. 13 *Valley of the Nobles XI*(by Egyptahotep)
VALLEY OF THE NOBLES XI: T.T. 255 & T.T. 13:
ROY'S Tomb(T.T.255) is in Dra abu el Naga, and dates back to XVIIIth Dynasty, at the end of the reign of Horemheb.
This tomb is small but has been very well restored, even if the red waste-dust threatens to occupy the low register already again. Its very lively colours make it one of the most beautiful civilian tombs preserved in the region,it has very beautiful paintings
SHUROY'S tomb (T.T. 13) is in Dra Abu el-Naga,in the west bank not far from the road off to the King's Valley. Shuroy had title 'Head of Brazier-bearers of Amun' during the Ramesside Period.Shuroy's tomb is larger than its neighbor tomb of Roy, having two chambers, a vestibule and a hall and has recently opened to visitors after being renovated and conserved.its paintings are wonderful.

EGYPT 476 - RAMOSE'S TOMB T.T. 55 * Valley of the Nobles IX* (by Egyptahotep)
VALLEY of The NOBLES IX *T.T. 55* :
Ramose was a governor of Thebes and vizier of Egypt during Amenophis III and Akhenaten reigns . It is significant not only for the quality of its paintings and low reliefs, but because the wall carvings show a transition between the formal style under Amenophis III and the new, looser style under Akhenaten.
Ramose's tomb was completed for him by his brother, Ramose appears to have died without children. The date of his death may be put at roughly the second year of the reign of Amenhotep IV (certainly before the move to Akhetaten as there is not trace of a tomb for Ramose found there). The tomb took the form of the conventional Tshape, as common private theban tombs of the 18th Dynasty. The wide transverse hall is particularly noted for its tightly packed papyrus-bundle pillars that effectively turned the space into a hypostyle hall. Despite its unfinished state, the tomb contains some of the most beautifully carved reliefs from the ancient world.
EGYPT 475 - REKHMIRE'S TOMB T.T. 100 *Valley of the nobles VIII* (by Egyptahotep)
VALLEY of The NOBLES VIII *T.T. 100*:
Rekhmire was a Vizier of Egypt during the reign of Tuthmosis III.His tomb is in Sheikh Adb el-Qurna. Rekhmire had high status in Egypt ,the role of Vizier meant that Rekhmire would have been in charge of much of the various day-to-day administration in Egypt (especially as Tuthmosis III spent much time away from Egypt campaigning) - Rekhmire was only required to consult with the King and the Chief Treasurer. The tomb is one of the largest and most decorated tombs from all of the Theban Nobles' tombs. The striking thing about this tomb is that it seems like a long corridor and has a particular roof with ascending inclination along, this characteristic produces a fantastic acoustic effects, Moreover this tomb is full of beautiful paintings of dailylife

EGYPT 473 - NAKHT'S TOMB, T.T. 52 *Valley of the nobles VI* (by Egyptahotep)
VALLEY of The NOBLES VI *T.T. 52*:
Nakht's Tomb (T.T. 52) is another of the most beautiful Theban Tombs. Nakht was 'Astronomer of Amun', scribe, and priest during the reign of Thutmose IV (Dyn XVIII). The tomb is located in Sheikh Abd el-Qurna, part of the Theban Necropolis on the west bank of the Nile. The tomb, although unfinished, is extremely beautifully decorated with daily life, agricultural, offering scenes etc. Here you can see also images of his beautiful wife Tawy. The traditional funerary scenes are missing due to the tomb's unfinished state.
The banqueting scenes which depict 'The Beautiful Festival of the Valley' are very well-known
EGYPT 472 - SENNEFER'S TOMB, T.T. 96 *Valley of the nobles V*(by Egyptahotep)
VALLEY of THE NOBLES V *T.T. 96*
Sennefer was mayor of Thebes during the reign of Amenhotep II (Dyn XVIII). His Tomb is located in Sheikh abd el Qurna and is one of the most beautiful tombs, and is known as the tomb of the vineyards' due the beautiful decoration of the ceilings which give the impression of standing under an arbour hung with big bunches of grapes.
By the door to the burial chamber there is a lady named Senet-nefert 'beloved sister (wife) and Chantress of Amun', appears with the deceased and holds a sistrum and a menat necklace. She is named as the wife of Sennefer and 'Royal Wetnurse'. There is some confusion over Sennefer's wives, as the ladies names are Senet-nay in the upper chambers and Senet-nefert in the antechamber. and only the name of the lady Meryt appears in the burial chamber. Either the deceased had several wives over a period of time, or they are variations of the same name, with 'Meryt' used as a title in the burial chamber, meaning 'beloved

Egypt adventure #8 (Medinet Habu, Tombs of the Nobles, Ramesseum, Luxor Stable )
We visited the Medinet Habu Temple, as well as the Tombs of the Nobles where we entered TT96 - Sennifer & TT100 - Rekhmire. We were shocked at how much effort was placed on these tombs and the hieroglyphics in the tombs as well as the integrate art work.
We also spent sometime at Ramesseum.
Luxor Stables is a must if you wanting to explore the west bank of Luxor. They have Arabian Horses as well as Bedouin Camels.
