Bestowed with some great local markets, ancient palaces, glittering lakes, divine temples, majestic mosques and a national park, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh has it all! However, this piece of knowledge will primarilyspeak about one of the best national parks in India and Madhya Pradesh i.e. Van Vihar National Park.

Van Vihar National Park was formed from a depleted forest area. In order to bring back and protect the rich flora& fauna, this unproductive land was declared a National Park in 1981 under the wildlife protection act.

The rich wildlife at Van Vihar!

This open zoological park comprises some huge wire enclosures where the carnivores like tiger, lion, panther, bear, and hyena stay as per the modern theory of the zoo management. On the contrary, the herbivores for instance cheetal and blackbuck are allowed to move around freely. The relentless chirping of a wide range of birds fills the air with vivacity while crocodile and tortoises relax in the sun. Another division which needs a mention here is the reptile unit, where one can see snakes like the cobras, russel vipers and pythons crawling on mud. The Van ViharRashtriyaUdyan also houses a ginormous variety of butterflies and insects.

Its nearness to the lake, enhances beauty and calmness ofthe landscape. The lakeside of the park brightens up with the arrival of a troop of migratory birds during winters. The park also has a Rescue Centre which takes care of ill animals. Though open all year round, Van Vihar turns out to bethe best place for wildlife enthusiasts especially during monsoons, when the other national parks remainshut.

The best way to explore Van Vihar National Park

Besides the options of travelling the park via car or motorcycle, we would recommend you to explore the beauty of thisgreen setup on a bicycle or just walk around. After reaching the gate of Van Vihar National Park, you get the option of hiring a bike on rent else you can also carry your own if you wish to.

Timing and Ticket at Van Vihar National Park

The best time to visit the park is early in the morning. The park remains closed on Fridays and ticket costs around Rs. 15 – 20 for Indians, Rs. 150 – 200 for foreigners.

Van Vihar National Park is a national park in central India. It is located in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. Declared a national park in 1979, it covers an area of about 4.45 km2. Although it has the status of a national park, Van Vihar is developed and managed as a modern zoological park, following the guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority. The animals are kept in their near natural habitat. Most of the animals are either orphaned brought from various parts of the state or those, which are exchanged from other zoos. No animal is deliberately captured from the forest.[1] Van Vihar is unique because it allows easy access to the visitors through a road passing through the park, security of animals assured from poachers by building trenches and walls, chain-link fence and by providing natural habitat to the animals

Little far from Bhopal city, Van Vihar is like mini zoo but offers a lot of animals to see like bear, leopard, white tiger, snake, crocodile & birds at affordable cost...Must visit if you are animal lover..IF you do not want to go for expensive safari at kanha or bandhavgarh, then this is the place to visit.
Having good facilities by tourism to visit the park, you can take your four wheeler, bike or just walk in park, having minimum charges for that. You can also take rental bicycle to visit the park.

White Tiger in Van Vihar National Park Bhopal || DnD Vlog

INTRODUCTION
Van Vihar is National Park located adjacent to Upper Lake of Bhopal city at Madhya Pradesh in Central India. It is spread over an area of 4.43 sq. km. area and was declared as a National Park in year 1983. Although it is a declared National Park, but on visit you will find it more a Zoological Park. It has been developed and managed as a zoological park in which wild animals were caged in a their natural surrounding. It is a important part of Bhopal local sightseeing.
This land is under strict protection, due to it has now transformed into an island full of greenery surrounded by habitation. Van Vihar serves as green lung for the capital town of Madhya Pradesh. It harbors herbivores like Chital, Sambar, and blue bull under free ranging condition and the animals like tiger, lion, leopard, hyena, crocodile and gharial under captive condition. The landscape of the area has led to the designing of enclosures in a fashion that serves the objective of fostering a positive man-animal relationship. Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has granted recognition to Van Vihar as medium size Zoo during q994. The adjoining upper lake adds immense beauty to the landscape of Van Vihar. The lake enlivens the park particularly when thousands of migratory birds land in the lake at the onset of winter.

FLORA
The vegetation was in highly degraded condition and belong to southern dry deciduous scrub forests. The main species found here are Bel (Aegle marmelos), Amaltas (Cassia fistula), Babul (Acacia nilotica), Reunjha (Acacia leucophloea), Doodhi (Writea tinctoria), Lendia (Lagerstromia parviflora), Saja (Terminalia alata), Amla (Emblica officinalis), and Tendu (Diospyros melanoxylon). In the closed areas of fodder farm and plantation, different palatable grasses like Chrysopogon fulvus, Themeda triandra, Heteropogon contortus, Dicanthium annulatum, Chloris dolichostachia, etc. are coming up. Hilly portion of Park is heavily infested with Lantana, whereas lower plains with Parthenium and Cassia tora weeds.

Van Vihar national park located in centre of Bhopal is the largest protected zoological garden by Forest department.It was established as rescue centre for wild animals rescued from circus, zoo, orphan and deprived.It is 2nd smallest national park of madhya pradesh spread in area of more than 4 sq.km.It houses the national animal of India, Bengal tiger, leapord, stag, deer, antelope,black buck,beer,Indian lion,great Indian bison,blue stag,and many species of birds.It has a well developed snake interpretation park and wetland zone of Bhojtaal for different migratory birds.
How to reach:
You can reach to this place using public transport from below mentioned location and also by personal vehicle through GPS Location provided .

Last winter, I visited the Van Vihar National Park. It is located in Bhopal the capital of Madhya Pradesh state of India. I saw white tiger, black buck, Nilgai, Indian Jackal, Cobra, Deer and many bird species during my visit. The park is closed on Friday and entry fee/ticket of park is Rs. 20/person (for Indians on foot/cycle ) . Vehicles are allowed inside the park and there is some extra/separate charge for vehicles (two vehicle, four vehicle, auto rickshaw)

A pair of lions was brought to Van Vihar National Park in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on January 16. Lions were brought out from Kanan Pendari Zoological Park in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur.

Big cat from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve shifted to Van Vihar Bhopal

A tiger, which was kept at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve's Baherha enclosure, has been moved to Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal. The decision was taken after researchers were done analysing changes in the animal's behaviour.
