About Faust
Gounod’s Faust is the pinnacle of 19th century French opera, it’s full of rich characterization, it’s dramatically exciting, and it’s exuberantly evocative. Faust, an aged and bitter man, sells his soul to Méphistophélès in return for youth and the love of Marguerite, an innocent young woman. By trying to have it all, he loses everything. Gounod’s sensuous and sublimely melodic masterpiece will be presented in a production not seen before in Vancouver. This all Canadian cast features east-coast native David Pomeroy and local favourite Simone Osborne, last seen in our 2015 production of Rigoletto. Making his Vancouver Opera debut is Toronto native Robert Pomakov, who appears regularly in the world’s greatest opera houses. Jonathan Darlington returns to conduct the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

La Traviata, a glorious work that deserves to be revisited time and again, was last performed eight years ago at Vancouver Opera. This perennial favourite has been given a brand-new look with lavish sets and costumes inspired by the decadent music hall scene of 1920s Paris.
Violetta, a famous Parisian courtesan who is consumed both by love and a life-threatening illness, is sung by Canadian Emily Dorn. Tenor Andrew Haji, who delighted audiences as Nemorino in last year’s production of L’Elisir d’amore, is the love-struck Alfredo. Canadian conductor Yves Abel, whose international career spans more than twenty years—including appearances at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House and the Vienna State Opera—makes his Vancouver Opera debut.
The performance will last approximately 3 hours, including one intermission

SEAFOOD BUFFET Pan Pacific Vancouver
It's Sunday morning and we are in Downtown Vancouver at the Pan Pacific. We are going to try their Sunday Seafood Brunch Buffet in their restaurant, Oceans 999.
This is one of the more elegant buffets in the city with a great selection of seafood from the pacific northwest. Amazing smoked salmon, crab, and halibut are just some of the items we especially enjoyed.
Here are their details:
999 Canada Pl, Vancouver, BC
This is considered one of the premium buffets costing approximately $60. Definitely a great place for those special occasions or if you're visiting. A great alternative would be the Hotel Vancouver Buffet.
Happy Dining!

L'Elisir d'amore is a romantic comedy in which a poor and hapless young man eventually wins the hand of the rich and educated town beauty. The love potion of the title unlocks the secret desires of all the main characters, and along the way the plot takes many amusing twists and turns. Chinese soprano Ying Fang makes her role debut as Adina. All of the other principal roles are sung by exceptional Canadian singers. Tenor Andrew Haji is note-perfect as Adina’s lovesick admirer Nemorino, and enchants in the famous aria “Una furtiva lagrima”. Baritone Brett Plegato is pomposity incarnate as Belcore, Nemorino’s rival for Adina’s affections. Dr. Dulcamara, the huckster selling the fake magic elixir, is sung in suitably wacky style by baritone Stephen Hegedus. This whimsical production is set in a small Canadian town, complete with ice cream truck and gazebo, which perfectly captures the innocence of the story. Music Director Jonathan Darlington has total command of Donizetti’s richly textured score.

About La Bohème
This new production of La Bohème is – literally – an enormous vintage picture postcard of Paris. The curtain rises on a modern-day flea market with sellers touting their wares and an accordion duo entertaining the crowd. A present-day tourist discovers a stall specialising in objects d’art from the 1920s. Amid the bustle, a lone visitor puts a record on a vintage gramophone and we hear the opening bars of a very famous opera, transporting the audience back in time. Canadian designer and director duo André Barbe and Renaud Doucet – the team behind Turandot in 2017 – have created a gloriously extravagant production. Set in the interwar years when artists and writers flocked to Paris to live the bohemian life, Café Momus is full of flamboyant jazz-era figures, including a glamorously exotic Musetta. Canadian conductor Judith Yan makes her Vancouver Opera debut. A refreshing look at a much-loved opera.
