Pioner Moskvy - Project 1590P - Проект 1590П, тип Пионер Москвы
Tribute to the series of freighters Pioner Moskvy class, built by Vyborg shipyards, Russia, between 1973 and 1981. 27 super ice class vessels. The ships chartered by the Nothern Shipping Company (NSC) in Arkhangelsk have often been used to transport packages of sawn timber from Russia or Scandinavia to Europe or Mediterranean ports. Those chartered by the Sakhanin Shipping Company (SASCO) and the Far East Shipping Company (FESCO), were used from the ports of Vladivostok, Vanino, to the other ports of Far Eastern Russia, but also to Korea, Japan and China. Their extreme robustness allowed them to carry out missions in the Far North, Kara Sea, the North Route, the Sea of Okhots, the Siberian Sea. Sometimes in total autonomy. One of them was bought in 1990 by the Italian company Diamar and, after important structural modifications, was used until 2017 as the main expedition vessel for the Italian national Antarctic research programme Italiantartide, in the Mario Zucchelli base in Antarctica. Her name was ITALICA. Today, in 2018, there are only two units still in service. AMR R and KAREEM R, former PIONER YAKUTII and PIONER KAZAKHSTANA. They are chartered by the Egyptian company Romalex in Alexandria. They provide regular lines between Alexandria and Novorossiysk.
