#sharavatibackwaters #Sagar #Shivamogga
Hey guys back with another video and am going to share my travel experience of Sharavati Backwaters. I often visit this place for its shear beauty and peceful environment, located in heart of malnad.
lets take a tour...
this place is located in mundagodu village (often called thumbe backwaters) in saga taluk, approx 18km from town.
Sharavati is a river which originates and flows entirely within the state of Karnataka in India. It is one of the few westward flowing rivers of India and a major part of the river basin lies in the Western Ghats. The famous Jog Falls, located about 24 km from Sagara, are formed by this river. The river itself and the region around it are rich in biodiversity and are home to many rare species of flora and fauna.
How to reach:
there is no bus service in this route. better go with a private vehicle. you have to take route of varadahalli road and reach here by yedajigalemane- maradavalli- tumbebackwaters. it is half day picnic spot, bring food and water as there is no local stores nearby.
Caution: Do not swim in water as some crocodiles are in river vicinity. Please dont throw plastic and water bottles you have brought and spoi nature.

HORI HABBA
Hori Habba, also known as Hatti Habba, Kobbari Hori Competition is a rural sport in which hundreds of trained and decorated draught cattle and bulls are made to run through huge crowds [1] Catchers try to subdue the cattle and snatch away prizes such as copra, cash, gift items tied to them. The sports is practiced mainly in Shivamogga, Haveri and Uttara Kannada districts of the Indian state of Karnataka during theDeepavali festival.
Hori Habba (ಹೋರಿ ಹಬ್ಬ)
Jallikattu is typically practised in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu as a part of Pongal celebrations on Mattu Pongal day, which occurs annually in January.
As there were incidents of injury and death associated with the sport, both to the participants and to the animals forced into it, animal rights organizations have called for a ban to the sport, resulting in the court banning it several times over the past years. However, with protest from the people against the ban, a new ordinance was made in 2017 to continue the sport.
kambala (Tulu & Kannada: ) is an annual buffalo race held in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka. Traditionally, it is sponsored by local Tuluva landlords and households in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, a region collectively known as Tulu Nadu.
The kambla season generally starts in November and lasts until March. The kambalas are organized through kambala samithis (Kambala Associations), of which there are currently 18. Over 45 races are held annually in coastal Karnataka, including smaller remote villages such as Vandaru and Gulvadi.

Jog Falls - Karnataka
Jog Falls (Kannada-ಜೋಗ ಜಲಪಾತ ) are among the ten highest waterfalls in India, located in Shimoga District of Karnataka state. Created by Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 meters (829 ft), Jog Falls is one of the major attractions in Karnataka tourism. It is also called by alternative names of Gerusoppe falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi.
River Sharavathi splits up into four different tracks which are named in accordance with their perceived trajectories. Going from left to right respectively in the picture, the names and the reasons for naming are:
- Raja (King): Named so because of its apparently 'dignified' and 'serene' fall.
- Roarer: This stream appears out of a mass of rocks, making a tremendous amount of noise.
- Rocket: Consists of a large volume of water streaming out of a small opening at a very high speed.
- Rani (Queen), also called Lady: The stream has a winding, twisting trajectory, said to resemble the movements of a female dancer.
Associated with the waterfall is the nearby Linganmakki Dam across river Sharavathi, and the hydro-electric power station that it serves. The power station has been operational since 1949, and is, at 1200 MW capacity, one of the largest hydro-electric stations in India and a significant source of electric power for Karnataka. The power station was previously named Krishna Rajendra hydro-electric project, after the King of Mysore at that time. The name was later changed to Mahatma Gandhi hydro-electric Project. It was served by Hirebhaskara dam until 1960. After 1960, thanks to visions of Sir M. Visvesvarayya, Linganmakki Dam, built across river Sharavathi is being used for power generation.
Visit Heggodu | Ninasam, Drama School in Karnataka) | Charaka (Natural Dye) Women Weaving Center????????
In February 2019, I visited Ninasam, Heggodu, Shivamogga District, Karnataka for the second time. My first time when it was 2009, so it means, after 10 years ????
Ninasam (Neenasama) is a cultural organisation located in the village of Heggodu in Sagar Taluk of the Shivamogga District in the state of Karnataka, India where it's dedicated to the dissemination of theater and culture.
Charaka is a women's multipurpose industrial co-operative society situated in Heggodu. It produces natural dyed cotton handloom garments especially in the field of natural dyeing. Unlike other ventures in natural dyeing, Charaka has focused its attention on cost effective production and some of the natural products have become as inexpensive as chemical dyed ones.
If you happen to visit Karnataka, and if you love theater arts, then this place is a must on your list. Hope you like the video friends. Thanls for watching ????????????
