Vernissage Flea Market in Yerevan, Armenia - Վերնիսաժ
The Yerevan Vernissage is an open-air exhibition-market. It was formed during the 1980s by Armenian artists who started to display their artworks in the square next to the Artists Union of Armenia (the current Charles Aznavour Square). The exhibition-market was gradually enlarged and finally moved to Aram and Buzand streets, starting with the Republic square metro station and ending up with the statue of Vardan Mamikonyan. In addition to carved wood and artworks, traditional carpets, old collections of coins and medallions, books, jewelry, musical instruments, electronics, and even pets are found in the market.

Saint Vartan Mamikonian -An Armenian Hero- Bekhit Fahim
Vardan Mamikonian (Armenian: Վարդան Մամիկոնյան) (393 AD — 451 AD), also known as Saint Vardan (in Armenian Սուրբ Վարդան) (Saint Vartan in Western Armenian transliteration and pronunciation) was an Armenian military leader, a martyr and a saint of the Armenian Church.
Vardan Mamikonian, a member of the Mamikonian family, is revered as one of the greatest military and spiritual leaders of Christian Armenia in the 5th century. Saint Vardan Day, usually in February (rarely at times in first week of March but always falling on a Thursday), is commemorated by churches in Armenia and the Armenian diaspora. Major Christian Armenian churches are named after Saint Vardan. A major equestrian statue representing him is found in the Armenian capital Yerevan.
After his death, Vardan Mamikonian was consecrated as a saint of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He is commonly known as Saint Vardan (in Armenian Սուրբ Վարդան) (in Eastern Armenian transliteration and pronunciation Surb Vardan, in Western Armenian transliteration and pronunciation as Saint Vartan or Sourp Vartan).
He is also reverred by the Armenian Catholic Church as a saint of the church and by Armenian Evangelical Church.
His commemoration day in the official Armenian Church calendar is usually in the month of February and on very rare occasions may fall in the first week of March. The actual Saint Vardan day is a moving day, as it always has to fall on a Thursday.
Major Christian Armenian churches are named after Saint Vardan, including St. Vartan Cathedral in New York City.
Vardan and Western Armenian variant Vartan are both very common given names for Armenian males. Vardanyan, Vardanian, and Vartanian are also common Armenian family names.

Saint Vartan - We Shall Not be Moved (with folk song) Battle of Avarayr
Mamikonian, Mamikoneans, or Mamigonian (Armenian: Մամիկոնյան) was a noble family which dominated Armenian politics between the 4th and 8th century. They ruled the Armenian regions of Taron, Sasun, Bagrevand and others. Their patron saint was Saint Yovhannes Karapet (John the Baptist) whose monastery of the same name (also known as Glak) they fiercely defended against the Sassanid invaders
Hamazasp Mamikonian was recorded as the family leader in 393. His wife is known to have been Sahakanoush, daughter of Saint Sahak the Great and descendant of the Arsacid kings. They had a son, Saint Vartan Mamikonian, who is revered as one of the greatest military and spiritual leaders of ancient Armenia.
After Vartan became Sparapet in 432, the Persians summoned him to Ctesiphon. Upon his return home in 450, Vartan repudiated the Persian religion and instigated a great Armenian rebellion against their Sassanian overlords. Although he died in the doomed Battle of Avarayr also known as Battle of Vartanantz (451), the continued insurrection led by Vahan Mamikonian, the son of Vartan's brother, resulted in the restoration of Armenian autonomy with the Nvarsak Treaty (484), thus guaranteeing the survival of Armenian statehood in later centuries. Saint Vartan is commemorated by many churches in Armenia and an equestrian statue in Yerevan.
After the country's subjugation by the Persians, Mamikonians sided with the Roman Empire, with many family members entering Byzantine service. Not only did they rise to the highest offices of Constantinople, but even some of the emperors - conceivably Leo the Armenian and Basil I - could have been their descendants. Theodora the Byzantine regent and her brothers Bardas and Petronas the Patrician were also of Mamikonian heritage. Unsurprisingly, Mamikonians form a crucial link in the postulated descent of modern European nobility from antiquity.
