The proposed road loop connecting NH17 B road to Vasco city near Madina Masjid in Vasco has become bone of contention between PWD and Mormugao Municipal Council. On one hand the Council is upset that PWD authorities without their consent have proposed a loop which was objected by the citizens. While on the other end PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar said that people have been unnecessarily objecting to the proposed loop as they are unaware of reality. Two different committees have claimed to be the rightful claimants of running the Sai Baba temple in the heart of the city. Following tensions between the two groups Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arundekar has directed the police to depute their personnel at temple premises until the issue between the groups is solved amicably.

Traditional fisherwomen in Vasco are agitated over licenses being granted to shops involved in selling fish. The women alleged that due to the shops in the vicinity of the fish market, their business has declined drastically. The fisher women met Mormugao Municipality’s Chief Officer and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida. The local MLA has assured to ban sale of fish outside the fish market premises. He has called for a meeting of all stakeholders on 27th December.
