वाशिष्ठी नदी कोकणातली एक महत्त्वाची नदी आहे.
हिची एकूण लांबी सुमारे ७० किलोमीटर आहे. ती सह्याद्रीतल्या तिवरे गावाजवळ अंदाजे ९०० मीटर उंचीवरून उगम पावते आणि चिपळूण, खेड, गुहागर आणि दापोली अशी वाहत दाभोळजवळ अरबी समुद्राला मिळते.
वाशिष्टी नदी जिथे अरबी समुद्राला मिळते, तिथे दाभोळची खाडी आणि दाभोळ बंदर आहे.

River Vashishti is one of the larger rivers in the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, India. The town of Chiplun lies on its banks. The river begins in the Western Ghats and snakes its way westwards towards the Arabian Sea. Kolkiwadi Dam, near Alore has a vast reservoir which feeds a tributary of the river. During the 2005 Maharashtra floods, the river swelled its banks, causing many of the city's residents to evacuate it.
The river has many riverine islands. Crocodiles are known to inhabit the waters.

The Gowalkot Fort is located on the Southern Bank of Vashishti River near Chiplun in Maharashtra, India. Gowalkot Fort was constructed by Siddi Habshi of Janjira in 1690. The city of Chiplun is located right on the bank of Vashisthi. Thereafter it meanders through the hilly landscape to meet the Arabian Sea on the Konkan coast near Dabhol.

We were a group of B.N.H.S(Bombay Natural History Society) nature tourists on a boat ride to view crocodiles and sea-otters on the Vashishti river in Chiplun. The Vashishti river is one of the largest Fresh Water rivers in Konkan Maharashtra situated on the banks of the town of Chiplun.The source of the river is in the Western Ghats and its mouth is in the Arabian Sea. The Kolkiwadi dam reservoir which is a part of the Koyna Hydroelectric project feeds a tributary of the Vashishti river, hence the water is fresh and sweet throughout the year. Crocodiles and river otters inhabit this beautiful meandering river with small marshy islets.It was drizzling during our boating trip in the river and were lucky to spot a small crocodile basking on the banks of a marshy estuary.A large crocodile basking at another estuary bank got frightened by our boat and exhibited one of the cleanest and fastest dives that i have personally witnesses, having previously seen crocodiles at close distance at the Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary in Mysore.River otters do exist in this fresh well maintained sweet water river ,but, due to the sudden rainfalls they must have disappeared into the marshy grass estuaries.:0 Seafarer/Blogger/Backpacker Rudolph.A.furtado.

Crocodile Emerging From The Flood To Streets In Indian Cities
Crocodiles hunted dogs in the flooded streets of the Indian city of Vadodara after it was battered by nearly 50 centimetres (20 inches) of rain in 24 hours leaving five people dead, police said Friday.
Police said other two other incidents involving crocodiles in populated areas were reported.
Ratnagiri (Maharashtra): An eight-foot-long crocodile was rescued from a roadside drain in the tourist resort of Chiplun in Maharashtra's coastal Ratnagiri district, officials said on Tuesday.
A video of the reptile emerging out of the drain has gone viral on the internet. The incident occurred in Chiplun's Dadar area, leading to confusion about whether it happened in suburban Mumbai.
Forest officials said that the incident occurred last Friday (July 26) when Ratnagiri was lashed by heavy rain leading to floods in the Vashishti River, which originates in the coastal district.
The crocodile is suspected to have entered the town's drainage system which was flooded due to the water overflow from the nearby river. Locals alerted the fire brigade and the Forest Department after they heard some strange sounds emanating from the drain as the huge reptile struggled to escape.

MUMBAI TIMES: Animals activists rescue work Crocodile after heavy rains the danger level crossed the Vashishti River, there was a flood in the Chipal. Crocodile incident occurred in the drainage line at Dadar Mohalla in the city along with the flood water chiplun. Upon seeing the crocodile going into the drainage. The forest department rushed to the spot and seized Magari and left it safely in the river again.
The crowds were the only crowd to see the crocodile in the drainage. The dragon had also come to a place because of the flood. Therefore, citizens are urged to take precautions. Report by Abdul Rasheed
