Experts in Ethiopia | Ethiopia Adventure Tours
Ethiopia is an undiscovered gem for the willing traveller, it has the cultural diversity, archaeological pedigree and natural beauty to match anywhere in the world. Our range of Ethiopia tours take in the rugged peaks of the Simien Mountains, Lalibela’s extraordinary rock-hewn churches, ancient castles at Gondar and the bustling capital of Addis Ababa. This is a country of quite unique depth and grandeur.
Occupying a plateau, some 2,500 metres above sea level, Ethiopia’s vast landscapes stretch out before you, across stunning vistas that shelter ancient frescoes and wild baboons. It is even rumoured to be the legendary home of the Queen of Sheba and the lost Ark of the Covenant. It was once a vast empire stretching into what is now Somalia, Eritrea and Djibouti, ruled by emperors claiming direct descent from King Solomon. And don’t forget the otherworldly beauty of the Danakil Depression which, created at the point where three tectonic plates collide, is Africa’s lowest point and one of the world’s hottest environments, making it a treasure trove for scientific research.

Read more about the film here:
'Green highlands, barren deserts, impassable lowlands, sparkling waterfalls, glistening lakes, bustling towns. We can’t describe Ethiopia with one word, unless we reach for ‘diversity’.
‘Ethiopia’ takes you on a journey off the beaten track through Northern lands of the country. It offers you a glimpse into the life of Amharic people living in the highlands, a chance to take part in important religious celebrations of Meskel, and a visit through a myriad of majestic Ethiopian landscapes, varying from the hottest desolate reds of Danakil Depression, to tremendous Blue Nile Falls, to the colourful mixture of cultures that you can find in the country’s capital, Addis Ababa.
Although the film is our personal tribute to this unique and vast country, it was impossible to include all that Ethiopia comprises of. We have yet to visit the South, East and West of Ethiopia. For more information about the places featured in the film, head to the article on our website:

We are of course aware that Ethiopia consists of Muslim population, and other religions, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time and funds to represent the whole cultural, religious and natural landscape of Ethiopia.
In our description and in our understanding the word 'diverse' applies mainly to Ethiopian geography ('Green highlands, barren deserts, impassable lowlands, sparkling waterfalls, glistening lakes, bustling towns. We can’t describe Ethiopia with one word, unless we reach for ‘diversity’ '), and in our opinion Ethiopia is very diverse in that sense, especially in comparison to the countries we come from.'

Ethiopia, officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Eritrea to the north and northeast, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south. With about 87.9 million inhabitants, Ethiopia is the most populous landlocked country in the world, as well as the second-most populated nation on the African continent. It occupies a total area of 1,100,000 square kilometres (420,000 sq mi), and its capital and largest city is Addis Ababa.
Some of the oldest evidence for modern humans is found in Ethiopia, which is widely considered the region from which Homo sapiens first set out for the Middle East and points beyond. Tracing its roots to the 2nd millennium BC, Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history. During the first centuries of the Common Era the Kingdom of Aksum maintained a unified civilization in the region.
Ethiopia derived prestige for its uniquely successful military resistance during the late 19th-century Scramble for Africa, and subsequently many African nations adopted the colors of Ethiopia's flag following their independence. Ethiopia was the only African country to defeat a European colonial power and retain its sovereignty as an independent country. It was the first independent African member of the 20th-century League of Nations and the UN. In 1974, at the end of Haile Selassie's reign, power fell to a communist military junta known as the Derg, backed by the Soviet Union, until it was defeated by the EPRDF, which has ruled since about the time of the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
Ethiopia is a multilingual society with around 80 ethnic groups, with the two largest being the Oromo and the Amhara. It is the origin of the coffee bean. Ethiopia is a land of natural contrasts; with its vast fertile West, jungles, and numerous rivers, the world's hottest settlement of Dallol in its north, Africa's largest continuous mountain ranges and the largest cave in Africa at Sof Omar. Ethiopia has the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Africa. Ethiopia's ancient Ge'ez script, also known as Ethiopic, is one of the oldest alphabets still in use in the world. It shares many similarities with the Armenian alphabet. The Ethiopian calendar, which is seven years and about three months behind the Gregorian calendar, co-exists alongside the Oromo calendar. A majority of the population is Christian and a third is Muslim; the country is the site of the Hijrah to Abyssinia and the oldest Muslim settlement in Africa at Negash. A substantial population of Ethiopian Jews, known as Beta Israel, resided in Ethiopia until the 1980s but most of them have since gradually emigrated to Israel.
Ethiopia is one of the founding members of the UN, the Group of 24 (G-24), the Non-Aligned Movement, G-77 and the Organisation of African Unity, with Addis Ababa serving as the headquarters of the African Union, the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the UNECA, African Aviation Training HQ, the African Standby Force and much of global NGOs focused on Africa. Despite being the main source of the Nile, the longest river on earth, Ethiopia underwent a series of famines in the 1980s, exacerbated by civil wars and adverse geopolitics. The country has begun to recover recently, and it now has the largest economy by GDP in East Africa and Central Africa. According to Global Fire Power, Ethiopia also has the 40th most powerful military in the world.Wikipedia
Ethiopian Muslims in full cry for freedom (Addis Ababa Demonstration July 26, 2013)
Anticipating a massive turnout in the holy month's biggest Ethiopian Muslims demonstration in Addis Ababa and all other major cities and towns, TPLF cadres distributed pamphlets on Thursday 25 July to discourage Ethiopians from joining the protest. When that failed they placed pro-TPLF Muslims and Sheik Nuru supporters in key areas to provoke the oppressed masses but according to eye witnesses, the peaceable protesters simply ignored them and marched past the heavily armed federal police commandos shouting Allah Waa Akbar, God is great.
The fear barrier has been effectively broken and the cry for freedom is reverberating across the vast nation. An exited protester told the Horn Times from Merkato district of the sprawling capital. Reporters on the ground even observed Muslims of Teklehaymanot district continuing with their colorful and well-organized protest till 4pm in the afternoon.
In Agaro, Woldia, and Werabe Oumr towns multitudes of protesters demanded the unconditional release of their venerated leaders and called for the restoration of their expelled imams.
The ruling junta has no right to banish our beloved imams and replace them with TPLF cadres. That is a blatant interference in our religious affairs. We are also demanding pro TPLF fake sheiks to vacate our mosques which they have occupied by force. The patriotic sheikdom of Ethiopia will never accept them as genuine Muslims. Yemer Shikur, 42, a school teacher from the town of Agaro told reporters after the protest there ended peacefully at the famous Hilal mosque of Agaro.
Across the globe, 26 July 2013 was earmarked as a day of protest for exiled Ethiopian Muslims who were joined by their Christian brothers and sisters in denouncing the flagrant human rights violations committed by the ruling minority junta.
In South Africa, the turnout was more than expected for a working day protest as hundreds gathered to voice their anger at the TPLF regime's refusal of releasing jailed Muslim leaders, political prisoners and journalists.
I am an orthodox Christian from the holy city of Addis Alem in Ethiopia. Currently am fasting Ramadan with my country's Muslims. It is a tradition I inherited from my late mother. That is how unique Ethiopia is; Interfaith harmony at its best. Today we are here in solidarity with our beloved Muslims. Daniel Haile 22, a young asylum seeker tearfully told the Horn Times.
Moreover, Similar protests are expected to take place in Canada, the US, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and various other European nations in the coming ours, according to our sources in the organizing committee.

Desert Locust invasion in Ethiopia
Since June 2019, Ethiopia has been responding to the Desert Locust invasion in Afar, Amhara, Oromia, Somali and Tigray regions and Dire Dawa city. Despite control efforts, Desert Locusts are spreading to new areas of Ethiopia in vast numbers.
The invasion could lead to a considerable drop in agricultural production, livestock feed and forest cover, compromising livelihoods and food security in Ethiopia and neighbouring countries.

The Unearthly Scenery of Dallol, Danakil Depression, Ethiopia in HD
Dallol is the hottest inhabited area on Earth, and also one of the most remote places on Earth. It is located in a depression, at more than 100 meters bellow sea level. Dallol has one of the most unearthly sceneries on the planet, due to its acidic hot springs, sulphur, salt, iron oxide, and other minerals, small gas geysers and pools of acid.
Recorded February 2014 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

The concept of national stadium for Ethiopia was part of an international competition in 2012. The sports-leisure hub of Addis Ababa is to be built on a vast, mostly unused square of 67ha in eastern part of the city.
Most of the terrain will be taken by the primary stadium and its parking infrastructure for 10,000 cars, together consuming 37ha. The remainder will be used to provide football, volleyball and basketball fields, together with a swimming pool and smaller facilities.
The stadium for 60,000 fans will be covered by a distinctive dome. With a dynamic steel structure, the roof will be covered in decorated tensile membrane panels. All facilities are to meet FIFA and IAAF requirements.
The stadium was to see groundbreaking in 2015 but it was postponed until Feb, 2016. Delivery thus slipped from 2017 to 2018 at the soonest.

Quick Guide to Ethiopia: Top attractions to add to your #AfriTravel itinerary
With 90-days visa free available to South Africans, why not plan your next Afri-Travel escape in Ethiopia. Here are the top attractions to plan around.
Known as the African country that was never colonised, Ethiopia has a vast ancient history still seen today in its archaeological artefacts and ruins of Christian temples from long ago.
It's also quite famous for its cuisine found in restaurants around the world, but you can experience it firsthand in its country of origin.
This east African country is also the origin point for the Nile river - the longest in the world - where the Blue Nile falls thunderously creating a massive waterfall.
Ethiopia holds important insights into Africa's past, and is a must-visit when travelling through the Horn of Africa.

The Omo Valley
The Lower Omo River in southwest Ethiopia is home to eight different tribes whose population is about 200,000.
They have lived there for centuries.
However, the future of these tribes lies in the balance. A massive hydro-electric dam, Gibe III, has now been built on the Omo river in order to support vast commercial plantations that are forcing the tribes from their land.
Salini Costruttori, an Italian company, started construction work on the dam at the end of 2006, and it is now complete. The government is now planning to build Gibe IV and Gibe V.
This will destroy a fragile environment and the livelihoods of the tribes, which are closely linked to the river and its annual flood.

Ethiopia Rising. Original Trailer
NOTE: This trailer was made before the film's title was changed to : 'Ethiopia Rising'
Set in the stunning landscape of Northern Ethiopia, and during a time of great conflict, 'Ethiopia Rising' will tell the incredible story of how people in this region transformed thousands of hectares of degraded land into vast hillside forests and fertile valleys. The sheer scale of the works, completed in just 25 years, would surely make it Ethiopia's '8th Wonder of the World'.
For the 'Live-Aid' generation, 'Ethiopia Rising' will change out-of date notions of this part of Africa.
