Västerås Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Västerås in the province of Västmanland, Sweden. The main church is the church of King Eric XIV of Sweden, where the public can see.
Västerås Cathedral with the oldest parts from the 13th century is a real attraction.
The church was completely restored in 1958-1961 under the leadership of Professor Erik Lundberg.
In the church there are 163 tombstones. The tomb of King Erik XIV of Sweden in the church.

In this video, we see American organist James D. Hicks, in recording sessions held in August, 2013 for Volume IV of his ongoing series of Nordic Journey CD albums. He plays the recently restored 1898 Åkerman & Lund organ at Vasteras Cathedral, Sweden, and speaks about the making of the album. Also seen performing on the video are sopranos Virginia Hicks and Elise Figa. The recording is item CD 7264 and can be searched, located and purchased at proorgano.com

This morning I had the pleasure of listening to and watching the school choir from Rudbeckianska High School perform the traditional Lucia songs. The performance took place in Västerås Domkyrkan. Hannah and her classmates did a wonderful job! So beautiful to hear the voices of the angels in such a big church. Dark, cozy with only candlelight to light the way. Happy holidays to you and yours!

Oskar Lindberg - Wedding Music - Västerås Cathedral
Oskar Lindberg (23 February 1887 -- 10 April 1955) was a nationalist/romantic composer. He wrote in a romantic idiom which blended features of composers such as Rachmaninoff and Sibelius with folk music and impressionistic elements. This piece, written in 1941, was a private commission.
This recording, issued by the parish, was made in 2002 in Västerås Cathedral, in Sweden by the organist Mats Ericsson. The organ was originally built by the firm Åkerman & Lund in 1898. During the organ reform movement years it underwent heavy respecifications. In 1998 the renowned British firm Harrison & Harrison created what must be considered to be a new instrument, blending remaining original parts with new elements. This is the instrument you hear on this recording.
It has since been altered once again, this time by the original builder. Fashion and dogma has changed. The ideal right now is to restore everything to what it once was, or should have been, no matter if later alterations actually was good. So I guess you can say that this old organ has been made to appear even older than it is.
