Vathy is a town and a former municipality on the island of Samos, North Aegean, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Samos, of which it is a municipal unit. It is the capital and main town of the island. The municipal unit has an area of 125.153 km2. The municipal unit comprises numerous towns, villages, and settlements, but its two largest are Samos , and Vathy . The town of Samos is the largest on the island, and the heart of its economy based on tourism. Vathy is a sister city of Kuşadası, Turkey since October 28, 1999.

This time on Life in POV we are visiting Vathy. Located near Cape Lithino at the mouth of a small gorge, this is far from civilization! Enclosed by tall cliffs, it looks like a lagoon and is not affected by the strong local winds that blow.

Vathy is a beach with sand, rocks, clear water and a number of tamarisks all around. It lacks organization completely: all you will find there is a small café with but the basics. Enjoy!

PORTO VATHI BEACH - Thassos, Greece

On 6 km from Limenas and only 500 m from famous Saliara or Marble beach is beach also the whole of marble.In my opinion more beautiful than Saliara.Wonderful beach bar and great music.

Thassos Guide - Vathi Beach

One of the most beautiful beaches of Thassos, situated on the east side of the island, close to Makryammos. It is an extremely exotic place with green waters and white sand shaded by trees. The access is somewhat difficult, due to the fact that the road is not paved.

Vathi je lepa, uska, peščana, divlja plaža. Nije organizovana, te na njoj nema ležaljki ni tuševa. Većim delom je sa peščanim dnom i plićakom. Boja vode je svetlo plava zbog belog peska.Na plaži retko ima gužve, jer je put koji vodi do nje dosta loš.

This lush green bay hides a beautiful small beach with crystal blue-green waters!

Since the access to the beach is not very easy, it doesn't get crowded and Vathi remains unspoilt and is ideal for those seeking tranquility.

This tranquility can be disturbed by the tourist boats that stop over to the beach (but only for about one hour).

Bring with you water and supplies, since there are no bars or canteens in close proximity.

Access: By tourist boat or car. Vathi is located at the northeastern part of Thassos, south of the amazing Saliara beach. You will first have to pass by Saliara and then continue following every junction of the road towards the sea and not the mountain. You will find plenty of parking spaces close to the beach. Keep in mind that the track road needs attention (or even better a 4x4).

Vathi is located in the west, 10 km from the capital, Apollonia.

At Punta tou Polemikou, the northern end of the bay, archaeological excavations have brought to light prehistoric settlements and tombs. In the more recent past, until the Second World War, Vathi was a village of potters.

It is the most beautiful and largest of the sandy beaches on the island, with a rare protected species of ‘sand lilies’ blooming around the middle of August.

Here there are rooms to let, restaurants, grocery stores, cafés and pottery workshops.

Many of the hiking trails through the NATURA protected areas start at Vathi, as well as those leading to Fikiada and Platy Gialos to the east.
On the beach there is the beautiful church of Taxiarches (the Archangels) (16th century), which holds a festival three times a year (July, September and November).
