First Trip to Pskov, Russia (Founded in 903)
Pskov, one of the oldest Russian cities. Founded, or at least first mentioned in Chronicles in 903. It is now became the third city, after Vyborg and Novgorod The Great, I have visited recently.
Pskov used to be a part of Kievan Rus, then Novgorod Republic but after all got it's own independency as Pskov Republic managed by Veche (People's Council). In 1510 joined the Great Moscow Duchy and became a part of new Russia.
Like most of old Russian cities, Pskov was founded on a coast of the river. Krom, the Pskov Kremlin (fortress) built on the hill in the place where Velikaya river meets Pskova river.
The main place of Pskov Kremlin is Trinity Cathedral, built by an order of Olga, The Great Princess of Kievan Rus. She was the wife of Igor Rurikovich, the Great Prince of Kievan Rus. After his death, Olga got the authority of Kievan Rus.
The Monument to Olga in Pskov depicts her with a Christian Cross in hands and little son Svyatoslav Igorevich. Because it is Olga who began the mass baptism of Russian people to an Orthodox Christianity and her son Svyatoslav Igorevich became the next Prince of Kievan Rus.

Pskov - the largest stone fortress in Europe. / Псков - крупнейшая каменная крепость в Европе.
Pskov is a city (since 903) on the North-West of Russia, the administrative center of the Pskov region and the Pskov area, located at the confluence of the Velikaya and the Pskova rivers.
Pskov — one of the oldest Russian cities, first mentioned in the Laurentian chronicle under the year 903. In 1348-1510 years — the capital of the independent Pskov Republic. In 1510 attached to the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Until the early eighteenth century, Pskov was one of the largest cities of Russia and Europe, the most important defensive and commercial centre of the country. Pskov fortress was the fortress of the five rings (three of which are preserved to this day), making the Pskov virtually impregnable. Throughout its long history of Pskov has become a centre of reference for major fighting, but was captured only once, not counting the occupation during both world wars. After the founding of St. Petersburg Pskov lost its dominant position on the Western borders of the country, and after the end of the Northern war, the border had shifted far to the West and Russia moved to Riga and revel (now Tallinn), the value of Pskov as a trading and defensive point finally fell. During the great Patriotic war the city three years was occupied by Germany, during this time, killed 3.5 thousand civilians. In December 2009, Pskov was awarded the title City of military glory. The history of Pskov is connected with Princess Olga, in baptism Helen (C. 920 — July 11, 969) — Princess, born on the Pskov earth, who ruled the old Russian state from 945 to 960 years after the death of her husband, the Grand Duke of Kiev of Igor the Old. The first ruler of Russia adopted Christianity before the baptism of Russia, Holy equal to the apostles Russian Orthodox Church; memory: 11 (24) July and in Cathedrals of Kiev, Pskov and Volyn saints.
The population of the city Pskov — 208 145 people (2016).
Pskov is an important tourist center of the Pskov region and the North-West of Russia. Trinity Cathedral, Pskov fortress, Mirozhsky monastery, pogankiny chamber, a number of ancient churches of Pskov are included in the list of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation.
An analysis of Operation Mars and Operation Uranus
Support Blitz of the Reich. Check out our online store!
This video is probably my most ambitious video yet. I have taken the time to introduce more visual aids upon request from my subscribers. I give an introduction to what operation mars was, what its stated objectives were, and ultimately its relationship with the more successful operaiton Uranus.
The video is meant as an introduction to what I think to be one of the most fascinating and understated operations of the second world war. A battle on par with D-Day or even the battle of the Bulge, operation Mars rarely gets recognition because it was a catastrophic failure. Several academics give their own reasons for that, so the video explores these reasons to come to conclusions about how the battle was framed afterward.
I also give an introduction to the strateguic situation of the battle and the terrain of the battlefield. Again, this is to give context to the situation in late 1942. My next video on operation Mars will specifically be about the battle and developments, along with a historical analysis on what went wrong.
Please enjoy and be sure to subscribe for more videos.

Russia - Hot air balloon festival
T/I: 10:44:09
Dozens of hot air balloons took to the skies this past weekend over the historical centre of Russian's northern capital, St Petersburg, to mark the city's 295th anniversary. St Petersburg, in Soviet times called Leningrad, prides itself on its annual balloon festival which began in the last years of the USSR. The bulk of the pilots took off from the city's Dvortsovaya Square next to the Winter Palace, scene of the legendary storming by the Bolsheviks in 1917.

LARGEST PORTS
China and Russia will build one of the largest ports
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
China and Russia will build one of the largest ports in north-east Asia on Russia's Sea of Japan coast, in a further sign of the powerhouses' growing alliance. The seaport is expected to be able to handle some 60 million tonnes of cargo a year. It is comparable to Britain's busiest port Immingham or Le Havre in France, according to European Commission statistics. The new facility will be located in far eastern Russia, just 18 kilometres away from the Chinese border. The region is also close to North Korea. Chinese and Russian leaders inked a deal on the port at May's Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Shanghai.

Д.Медведев.Выступление на церемонии вручения.08.12.08.Part 1
Speech at Ceremony Conferring the Honorary Title City of Military Glory on Dmitrov, Veliky Novgorod and Velikie Luki.Part 1
December 8, 2008

Выступление на церемонии вручения грамот о присвоении почётного звания «Город воинской славы» Дмитрову, Великому Новгороду, Великим Лукам.
8 декабря 2008 года
Москва, Кремль
PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA DMITRY MEDVEDEV: Dear friends,
It is an excellent and important event that has brought us together today. This event has to do with difficult but at the same time glorious pages in our history. Today, here in the Kremlin, the documents conferring the lofty title of City of Military Glory are being presented. This honorary and long-awaited title is being deservedly conferred on three of our towns: Velikie Luki, Veliky Novgorod, and Dmitrov.
During the terrible and fateful years for our country, it was the people of these towns who were the first to rise up and block the enemys way, selflessly rebuilt their land in the difficult post-war years, and always lovingly preserved the memory of the heroes of our Fatherland who fought in these places.
From the moment of its founding, Veliky Novgorod has been one of the advance posts of the Russian states development on its western borders, and has stood firmly in the way of invaders. It was here, at the walls of the St Sophia Cathedral, that Alexander Nevsky spoke his famous words, Whoever comes to us by the sword shall perish by the sword. From generation to generation for more than 1,000 years Veliky Novgorod has handed down the glory of Russias military traditions, and during the Great Patriotic War it was true to its earlier military glory. Fighting bloody defensive battles, the citys defenders succeeded in stopping the advance of Hitlers army and won the precious time needed to prepare for the defence of Leningrad.
Velikie Luky was one of the strongest fortresses guarding ancient Russias north-western borders. The towns name has been immortalised in our countrys military chronicles in a whole number of very important battles, including the battle of Velikie Luki, which became one of the heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War. In this battle, Russias defenders managed to halt for a long time elite Wehrmacht divisions that were trying to advance towards Moscow.
The third town that has received this honorary title is the ancient town of Dmitrov, not far from the Russian capital. Dmitrov has known many dramatic milestones in its history. One dates back to the invasion of Bati Khan in the XIII century, when the town was captured and its people preferred to die rather than submit to the enemy. During the Great Patriotic War, Dmitrov again became a symbol of military honour and courage. Its defenders had to fight with selfless bravery superior enemy forces that were trying to encircle Moscow, but the enemy forces did not succeed in taking the town. Our soldiers managed to stay ahead of the enemy and keep the strategic initiative in their hands. Essentially, it was then, during the first days of the war, that the myth of the Nazis invincibility was debunked.
Dear friends, there are many truly heroic towns in Russia that have made an important contribution to the military and labour chronicles of our country and helped achieve the Great Victory of 1945.
Above all, I want to express my thanks to the main heroes of todays ceremony the veterans of the Great Patriotic War. You laid at that time the great solid foundation that went on to serve as the basis for the countrys reconstruction and development. Your moral strength has always been and will always remain a support pillar for our country and a powerful incentive for constructive work to revive our country and develop it in the years and decades to come.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you, dear veterans, and thank everyone here, all the people of our towns that have received the title City of Military of Glory, and wish you all health, long life, and success.

ILYA MUROMETS trailer
IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is a continuation of the legendary Sturmovik series and for more than 10 years it has been the standard for the combat simulation genre. IL-2 products have received worldwide recognition by gamers from every corner of the globe. This new entry into this series will offer virtual pilots and players an even more accurate reproduction of the legendary air battles of World War II. A new, higher level of physics modeling, damage modeling and aerodynamics has been achieved. Battle of Stalingrad will include several famous aircraft that have been recreated from detailed drawings and blueprints and they will fly over the most ambitious and detailed reconstruction ever attempted in a flight-sim of the most critical battle on the Eastern Front.
ILYA MUROMETS covers the events of the air war on the Eastern Front during WWI and features the gigantic and legendary four-engine bomber of the Imperial Russian Air Force. This plane became the first large bomber in the history of aerial warfare and is the forefather of the multi-engine long-range strategic aviation of later conflicts. ILYA MUROMETS will feature several additional fighter planes and attack planes from Russia, Germany and Austro-Hungary. A map covering a portion of the Eastern Front (territory of modern Ukraine) will be included in the game. This was an active theatre for the Ilya Muromets during the war where several famous missions took place. The game will include a set of challenging single-player mission scenarios along with a quick mission builder and multiplayer capability. “We’re happy to work together with the RUSSIAN MILITARY HISTORICAL SOCIETY on this project. This is a unique opportunity for us to put our knowledge about air battles of that period into practice,” comments Albert Zhiltsov, producer at 1C Game Studios. “World War I, especially the Eastern Front, is a topic that is not widely covered in video games. Our team has vast experience in creating flight simulations and we have a chance to use all of our technology including an advanced physics system, complex flight models and accurate ballistics to bring this legendary plane to life. This project is more than a game to us - it’s a great opportunity to introduce players to the history of Russian aviation and to further build interest in the flight-sim genre. To make it more accessible to newcomers we also plan to introduce a new control system in the upcoming game.” ILYA MUROMETS is scheduled to be released in Q4 2014 with the Early Access program starting August 1 st

Russia Reveals New 'Invisible' Submarine The ‘Kronstadt’
A new Russian Lada-class diesel-electric attack submarine will defend naval bases and destroy other subs, while remaining ‘invisible’ to enemy radar, an official said. The ‘Kronshtadt’ submarine successfully conducted its maiden dive in St. Petersburg on Monday. The sub is said to be ‘invisible’ because its advanced equipment prevents it from being spotted underwater, Viktor Chirkov, Russia’s former Baltic Fleet commander and now a chief adviser at the state shipbuilding company said.
