We visited Vellode Birds Sanctuary near Erode, Tamil Nadu. We expected much but it was disappointing. There is not much water, not many birds.
People nearby that Sanctuary said the government is not taking proper steps to maintain this Sanctuary.

Vellode Birds Sanctuary (வெள்ளோடு பறவைகள் சரணாலயம்) is an 80 ha (200-acre) sanctuary located in the Erode District in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
The sanctuary is about 15 km from Erode Central Bus Terminus on the way to Chennimalai, near Vellode, and 10 km from Erode Junction Railway Station, in the south.
வெள்ளோடு பறவைகள் சரணாலயம் என்பது தமிழ்நாட்டில் ஈரோடு மாவட்டம், சென்னிமலையை அடுத்த வெள்ளோடு எனும் ஊரில் 77.85 ஹெக்டேர் பரப்பளவில் அமைந்துள்ள ஒரு பறவைகள் சரணாலயமாகும். இது ஈரோட்டில் இருந்து 12 கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவிலும் பெருந்துறை யிலிருந்து 5 கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவிலும் உள்ள வெள்ளோட்டில் அமைந்துள்ளது.
இங்குள்ள பெரிய ஏரிக்கு ஆண்டின் நவம்பர் முதல் ஏப்ரல் வரையிலான காலத்தில், இந்திய நாட்டிலுள்ள பறவைகளான மஞ்சள் மூக்கு நாரை, கரண்டி வாயன், கூழைக்கடா, நத்தைக் குத்தி நாரை, வெள்ளை அரிவாள் மூக்கன் போன்றவைகள் வருகின்றன. இவை தவிர, வெளிநாடுகளிலிருந்தும் 109 வகையான பறவைகள் வந்து செல்கின்றன. குறிப்பாக, ஆஸ்திரேலியா மற்றும் ஆஸ்திரியா நாடுகளில் இருந்து பெலிகன் பறவைகள் பெருமளவில் இங்கு வருகின்றன. இங்கு வரும் பறவைகள் நான்கு மாத காலம் வரை தங்கியிருப்பதுடன் முட்டையிட்டுக் குஞ்சு பொரித்து இனப்பெருக்கம் செய்து அவற்றுடன் திரும்பிச் செல்வதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளன.
