Blog:
Santorini will not stop surprising you. The more you will look, the more you will find.
In the peaceful and traditional village of Akrotiri that lies on the southwest coast of Santorini, you can visit the great Venetian Castle of Akrotiri. It is estimated that it was built in the first century of the Venetian occupation, as a shelter and a refuge.
La Ponta (the peak), its 13th century Venetian tower, is a great attraction since it provides a well-worth range of workshops and exhibitions of ancient Greek instruments.
Argy Kakissis is the co-founder and director of the project that restored the tower and brought it back into life. She believes that Santorini has even more to offer apart from its wonderful beaches and views. If you leave your bike or your car aside, you will find wonderful experience that you are not going to find if you are driving, she says.
She also takes the opportunity to tell us about the expansion of the project that will be called Symposium and will be dedicated to Music, Art and Greek Mythology. If you wanna know more about this initiative and would like to help out with their crowdfunding campaign, visit their website at
Ah! Before we forget: this place also provides unique panoramic views of Santorini.

The tower hosts a tsabouna - Greek folk wind instrument of the bagpipe family - exhibition along with traditional Greek percussion and flutes.
In the La Ponta workshop they construct the tsabouna, various traditional and Ancient Greek flutes and the Cycladic drum doubaki.

Santorini Video Map:
Akrotiri, 15 km from Fira, is a small community built around the walls of a Venetian castle, which is sheltered by long and time-battered walls. The small castle town seems to live at its own pace. Akrotiri is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. It is a prehistoric settlement discovered by archaeologist Spyros Marinatos in 1967, who discovered an entire village buried under lava and ash. According to its findings, the district flourished around 3000 BC and was destroyed by the volcanic eruption in 1500 BC. From Akrotiri and a few minutes hiking on a trail, you can reach the Red Beach: a landscape unique in the world, huge red rocks and reddish pebbles compose an incredible sight. The Red Beach is very well-organized and has a worldwide reputation as it is a unique natural phenomenon.

Santorini Akrotiri - Castelul venetian
Santorini Akrotiri - Castelul venetian
Santorini Travel Guide - Greece Memorable Moments
Santorini Travel Guide - Greece Memorable Moments
Santorini is a volcanic island in the Cyclades group of the Greek islands. It is located between Ios and Anafi islands. It is famous for dramatic views, stunning sunsets from Oia town, the strange white aubergine (eggplant), the town of Thira and naturally its very own active volcano. There are naturally fantastic beaches such as the beach of Perissa, maybe the best beach in Santorini, the black pebble beach of Kamari, white beach and red beach.
There are several villages and towns on Santorini Island, four of which are perched along the top of the crescent-shaped cliff of the caldera.
Fira - the main stunning cliff-perched town, featuring all that Oia has, but much more overcrowded.
Karterados - 2km south of Fira. Here you can find the traditional Santorini architecture
Kamari - black pebble beach. Has stunning views of Sunrise.
Firostefani - just 10 minutes walking distance from Fira, offering unique views of the volcano and sunset from it cliff-perched site.
Imerovigli - small resort town perched on the cliff a short bus ride away from Fira. Has absolutely stunning views of the sunset (all the way down to the horizon) and of Oia.
Oia or Ia - for unforgettable sunsets, probably the most charming cliff-perched place on the island.
Pyrgos - highest point on the island; picturesque monastery and streets, can compete with Oia.
Perissa - Nice, well-organized beaches and good Greek fish taverns.
Megalochori -Traditional village with a lot of old white cycladic churches.
Akrotiri-Visit the Venetian Castle and on the top with amazing views the tower La Ponta- Greek Bagpipe exhibition workshop-Daily music!]]
Mesaria - The centre of the island. There is a small market on the road every morning with fresh fish. Do not miss the Argiros Estate to see a 19th century house fully rebuilt.
Monolithos- Nice beach and a few good taverns. Very good for children, as the water is shallow.
Vlichada - a small village and a beach.
Vothonas - a small rock village, the church of St. Ann is here. Architecturally it is the strangest village on the island, as all the buildings were cut from the ravine that it is in.
Also there's Thirasia, a village on the nearby island with the same name--visited by fewer tourists. There are daily excursions to the Kameni (volcano) Island which also reach Thirasia island.
The tourist season starts April 1, or around Greek Easter. The period from December through March is very much the off-season and marked by colder temperatures, rain and winds. Although the temperature is rarely cold, the poor weather makes for a less than optimal experience on this beautiful island. Most of the businesses, including hotels and guest houses, may be closed. The air is usually hot and dry during the busy summer months with very little rain between May and September. Ideal times to visit, for milder weather, lower prices and crowds, are April-June and September-October.
The island has a public bus service, with buses costing € 1.60, € 1.80 and € 2.20. There are no daily or weekly bus passes available. Recommended routes by foot include the amazing walk from Fira to Oia (note that this walk is less nice in reverse, it can take less than three hours but can be difficult, for up and downhill climbs, the rocky surface at times, and the proximity to unprotected cliffs that drop sharply into the caldera) along the caldera, as well as the paths over Perissa Rock connecting Perissa, Kamari, and Pyrgos. The walk between Perissa and Kamari is fairly short (via Ancient Thira), while the walk to Pyrgos is somewhat longer, passing through the highest point on the island. The views are breathtaking and you could find different kinds and colours of rocks and plants as you walk. The walking route is different from where the city buses go.

Santorini Island Cyclades Greece
Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη), classically Thera, and officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from Greece's mainland.
It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. Another popular theory holds that the Thera is the area of the legend Atlantis.
It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km2 (28 sq mi) and a 2011 census population of 15,550.
The municipality of Santorini comprises the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana.
The total land area is 90.623 km2 (34.990 sq mi).
Santorini is part of the Thira regional unit.
Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic explosion that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island, and created the current geological caldera. A giant central, rectangular lagoon, which measures about 12 by 7 km (7.5 by 4.3 mi), is surrounded by 300 m (980 ft) high, steep cliffs on three sides. The main island slopes downward to the Aegean Sea. On the fourth side, the lagoon is separated from the sea by another much smaller island called Therasia; the lagoon is connected to the sea in two places, in the northwest and southwest. The caldera being 400m deep makes it possible for all but the largest ships to anchor anywhere in the protected bay; there is also a newly built marina in Vlychada on the southwestern coast.
The principal port is called Athinios.
The capital, Fira, clings to the top of the cliff looking down on the lagoon.

Greece 2019 Travel Guide ( Best Beaches in Greece Crete)
Greece 2019
So 12 of us decided to Travel to Greece this year, the same group that did Alicante Spain 2 years ago, and the beauty we saw from the country Greece is out of this world. we Travelled 1200km with one 9 seater and a 5 seater and even whilst driving the mountains and the natural surrounding of the country was just amazing to admire.
We travel to the Best Beaches that the locals had seen and in the video i've listed all top 4 beaches, each to its own beauty and different experiences.
Beach 1 -- Seitan Limania
It is one of the most isolated of Chania beaches and is located 22 km. northeast of the city and 2 km. east of the village Chordaki, on the eastern side of Akrotiri. Vertical wild cliffs and stunning blue waters create a summer landscape of incomparable beauty. The approach to Seitan Limania beach is not easy, as you will need to drive 15 minutes from the airport and then descend a downhill path for 22min, so be prepared to do a bit of hiking /climbing.
Beach 2 -- Balos
The deep blue of the shallow water of Balos is mixed with the sky and the rocky formations and all that makes you fall in love Balos at first … splash! To get there, you follow the National Road Chania-Kissamos for 46 km., them drive along a dirt road for 8 km. and go down the path that is 35 min. from the beach. Also, there are daily cruises from Kasteli to Balos. First, you can visit Gramvousa with its Venetian castle (1579-1584) and countless cacti and then go to Balos where you receive smaller boats to take you back to the shore.
Beach 3 --Preveli Beach
in Crete is located about 35km south of Rethymnon and 10km east of Plakias. Preveli Beach, also known as Limni of Preveli (Preveli Lake) or Finikas (Phoenix), is located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotiko gorge, crossed bu the Great River.
Beach 4 - The sandy beach of Rethymno
City is located just 500m east of the city centre, next to the Venetian port. It's a lovely beach with golden sand and crystal clear shallow water, very well organized and close to all amenities of the city. It is actually the westernmost end of the 13km long beachfront of Rethymno Bay, which stretches east all the way to Skaleta. The vast beach is always busy, but never seems too crowded.
