The foothills of the Alps form the backdrop to Follina, a delightful little town nestling among the Prosecco hills, only 50 minutes from Venice in the heart of the Treviso area.In the old centre, a stone's throw from the medieval abbey, stands the Hotel dei Chiostri an unexpected and unusual example of contemporary design that can hold its own with the famous design hotels in London and Amsterdam. For those who love the latest style, this hotel is a feast for the eyes - architectural effects, unusual combinations of antique and modern, innovative lighting and contrasting shapes and colours. The perfect place to relax among art, history and wine and food culture. A few steps from Abbazia di Santa Maria XII° siècle , it combines all the intensity and charm of the ambience with the virtues of a dynamic meeting point forVenetian and international culture. A Casual Stroll to the Airport in Treviso: Weekends Away in Italy (Terza Parte)
Those moments leading up to heading back to an airport at the end of a trip can feel somber and awkward. Fortunately, Treviso Airport is literally a few minutes away (BY WALK) from Treviso, so we had plenty of time to stroll around and take in as much as possible before taking the highway by foot back to our plane including chowing down on some New York-style pizza at a kebab shop.

VENICE, Vaporetto (boat) ride to beautiful MURANO, ITALY ????️
SUBSCRIBE: - Vaporetto from Venice to Murano, Italy. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Venice, capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a marshy lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. Its stone palaces seemingly rise out of the water. There are no cars or roadways, just canals and boats. The Grand Canal snakes through the city, which is filled with innumerable narrow, mazelike alleys and small squares.

Grand Canal, Venice, Veneto, Italy, Europe
The Grand Canal is a canal in Venice, Italy. It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city. Public transport is provided by water buses and private water taxis, and many tourists explore the canal by gondola. At one end, the canal leads into the lagoon near the Santa Lucia railway station and the other end leads into Saint Mark Basin; in between, it makes a large reverse-S shape through the central districts (sestieri) of Venice. It is 3,800 m long, 30–90 m wide, with an average depth of five meters (16.5 ft). The banks of the Grand Canal are lined with more than 170 buildings, most of which date from the 13th to the 18th century, and demonstrate the welfare and art created by the Republic of Venice. The noble Venetian families faced huge expenses to show off their richness in suitable palazzos; this contest reveals the citizens’ pride and the deep bond with the lagoon. Amongst the many are the Palazzi Barbaro, Ca' Rezzonico, Ca' d'Oro, Palazzo Dario, Ca' Foscari, Palazzo Barbarigo and to Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, housing the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. The churches along the canal include the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. Centuries-old traditions, such as the Historical Regatta, are perpetuated every year along the Canal. Because most of the city's traffic goes along the Canal rather than across it, only one bridge crossed the canal until the 19th century, the Rialto Bridge. There are currently three more bridges, the Ponte degli Scalzi, the Ponte dell'Accademia, and the recent, controversial Ponte della Costituzione, designed by Santiago Calatrava, connecting the train station to Piazzale Roma, one of the few places in Venice where buses and cars can enter. As was usual in the past, people can still take a ferry ride across the canal at several points by standing up on the deck of a simple gondola called a traghetto, although this service is less common than even a decade ago. Most of the palaces emerge from water without pavement. Consequently, one can only tour past the fronts of the buildings on the grand canal by boat. On the first Sunday of September takes place the Historical Regatta (Regata Storica), a competition between Venetian boats watched by thousands of people from the banks or from floating stands. Competitions are preceded by a historical procession (Corteo Storico) remembering the entrance of the Queen of Cyprus Catherine Cornaro after abdication in 1489: gondoliers in costumes sail in typical 16th century boats following the Bucentaur, doge's state galley. On November 21, Venetians thank the Virgin Mary for saving from the plague epidemic in 1630-38 with a pilgrimage to Santa Maria della Salute. Pilgrims cross Grand Canal on a temporary pontoon bridge from Campo Santa Maria Zobenigo, and enjoy stalls and traditional dishes. After the fall of the Republic 1797, construction of housing in Venice was suspended, as symbolized by the unfinished San Marcuola and Palazzo Venier dei Leoni (housing the Peggy Guggenheim Collection). Patrician families lost their desire of self-exaltation and many of them died out. Several historical palaces were pulled down, but most of them survived and good restorations have saved their 18th century appearance. The most important are publicly owned and host institutions and museums. Religious buildings underwent the consequences of religious orders suppression decreed by Napoleon in the Kingdom of Italy period. Many churches and monasteries were deprived of furnishings and works of art, changed their function (like Santa Maria della Carità complex, now housing the Gallerie dell'Accademia) or were demolished. The Santa Croce complex, for which the Sestiere was named, was situated in Papadopoli Gardens area; Santa Lucia complex (partially designed by Palladio) was razed to the ground to build Santa Lucia Station. The Kingdom of Italy accession restored serenity in the city and stimulated construction along the Grand Canal respecting its beauty, often reproduced in Gothic Revival architectures like the Pescaria at Rialto. In 1582, Alessandro Vittoria began the construction of Palazzo Balbi (now housing the Government of Veneto), in which Baroque elements can be recognized: fashioned cornices, broken pediments, ornamental motifs. The major Baroque architect in Venice was Baldassarre Longhena. In 1631 he began to build the magnificent Santa Maria della Salute basilica, one of the most beautiful churches in Venice and a symbol of Grand Canal. The classical layout of the façade features decorations and by many statues, the latter crowning also the refined volutes surrounding the major dome. Longhena later designed two majestic palaces like Ca' Pesaro and Ca' Rezzonico (with many carvings and chiaroscuro effects) and Santa Maria di Nazareth church (Chiesa degli Scalzi).
Venice-Mestre Hospital (Ospedale dell'Angelo Mestre) - Greenroofs.com Featured Project

Considered the most technologically advanced health facility in Italy and at the forefront of healthcare in Europe, the campus of the Venice-Mestre Hospital (the Ospedale dell'Angelo Mestre in Italian or Angel Hospital) includes the equally important and architecturally stunning Veneto Eye Bank Foundation, both designed by Emilio Ambasz and Alberto Altieri. Covering a surface of 260,000 m2, the architects’ Therapy Park concept sees strategic design of the landscape as a green element that surrounds, incorporates and crosses the new hospital structure, so that it becomes an integral part of the interior spaces as well. The Landscape Garden surrounds the hospital complex. It contains woods, lakes, hills and an area called the meadow, a large roof garden linking the hospital block with the supplies department building. Completed at a cost of approximately 500 million euros, the Venice-Mestre Hospital is a general care hospital with 680 patient care beds with seven floors above ground level plus two underground floors. Visitors arriving by car or train enter the hospital on the Central Garden, a gently sloping green ramp under which all cars are parked. These below grade and daylight greenroof areas are organized into sedum and meadow lawns planted with bands of flowering shrubs and ground cover, linked by footpaths.
Its signature striking glass-faced pyramid atrium, stretching along the 180-meter length of the building, contains the in-patient block that emerges from a much more extensive services and outpatient block, which is covered with greenery. Visitors enter directly into the Grand Lobby, the overstructure atrium courtyard, which is created by the overhangs of floors. Above, patient rooms face onto the atrium filled with light and lush tropical plants - like in a huge greenhouse. As the six building floors shift to one side as it rises, private garden terraces are created. Every patient has direct views to plants and trees in front of their windows as well as long perspectives onto the surrounding fields. The exquisitely designed Venice-Mestre Hospital and Veneto Eye Bank Foundation together create living architecture as ecosystem service providers, blending biophilia seamlessly with the user experience.

Places to see in ( Mestre - Italy )
Places to see in ( Mestre - Italy )
Mestre is the centre and the most populated urban area of the mainland of Venice, part of the territory of the Metropolitan City of Venice, in Veneto, northern Italy. Administratively speaking, Mestre forms (together with the nearby urban area of Carpenedo) the Municipalità di Mestre-Carpenedo, one of the six boroughs of the commune (Comune) of Venice. Sometimes considered as a frazione, it is Italy's most populated, with 89,373 inhabitants. The mainland of Venice is the territory of the city based on continental land (instead of natural or artificial islands like the most well-known parts of Venice) connected to the historical center by a long rail and road bridge over the Venetian lagoon, called Ponte della Libertà (Freedom Bridge).
Since the end of World War II, Mestre had a quick and disordered urban growth, after which Mestre constitutes a vast human settlement together with the other urban centers of the Venetian mainland (Carpenedo, Marghera, Favaro Veneto, Chirignago, Zelarino, Tessera). Mestre being the center and the most populated area of the mainland, in common language the toponym Mestre is very often used, incorrectly, to define the whole Venetian mainland. Mestre received the title of city in 1923 and maintained it briefly till 1926, when was annexed to the commune of Venice.
Public transport is managed by Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano. There are several bus routes and two tramway lines. Several bus routes link mainland with piazzale Roma, the main bus station in Venice, via Ponte della Libertà a road bridge connecting the historical center of the city of Venice, that is a group of islands, to the mainland.
According to legends, Mestre was founded by Mesthles, a companion of the hero Antenor, a fugitive from Troy who founded Padua. The true origins of the city are uncertain, although it is known that a Roman oppidum (fortress) existed here, though this was destroyed by Attila and probably rebuilt in the 10th century. The first historical mention is from an Imperial diploma by Otto III, by which Rambald, count of Treviso, received land in the area named Mestre. In 1152 a papal bull by Pope Eugene III recognized the bishop of Treviso as lord of Mestre, citing the existence of the church of St. Lawrence, a castle and a port. In 1257 the bishops ceded it to Alberico da Romano, podestat of Treviso.
Mestre is now a preferred starting point for tourists visiting Venice, due to Mestre's favorable location, its cheap and frequent connections to the historical center of Venice by train and by bus (available also during the night), and Mestre's more reasonable prices of bars, discos, car parking, hotels, restaurants, and supermarkets, compared to the prices of the same touristic services in the historical and touristic center of Venice. The city already has some experience as host of major international basketball tournaments such as the EuroBasket 1979, which drew many tourists to the city.
