A Historical Walk Through Fredericksburg, Texas

Fredericksburg is a very historic city located in the scenic Texas Hill Country. Known for its German heritage, it is a great travel destination from both Austin and San Antonio. Starting off at Marktplatz where the reconstruction of the Vereins Kirche is located, I take a walk along Main St (US 290) checking out the historic buildings in downtown from the former Nimitz Hotel to the Pioneer Museum. Unfortunately the Pioneer Museum was closed the day I went, but it is definitely worth admiring the beautiful buildings outdoors! I complete my stay in Fredericksburg by visiting the Der Stadt Friedhof cemetery.

(28 Dec 1963) West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard visited the Texas pioneer town of Fredericksburg with its octagonal 'German' church the 'Vereins Kirche,' and its Pioneer Museum. He was accompanied by US President Lyndon B. Johnson.
