Expanded movie about Vernazza, perhaps the most popular village in the Cinque Terre, along the Ligurian shores of Italy. We visit in the off-season, November, when the village is quiet and peaceful, a great time to be here. Walking up the hill for a view, then to Gambero Rosso restaurant for a wonderful lunch. Superb!

Vernazza, Italy, may be the most beautiful of all Cinque Terre villages, set perfectly in a tiny valley on the edge of the sea, with colorful homes built one on top of the next and framed by a couple of churches and towers.
The buildings have been standing for many centuries and they’re not going anywhere, so take your time, explore the little side alleys, and yes, there are going to be staircases. After all, these are hill-towns, so there are hardly any flat, level surfaces here, but it’s easy enough.
You will be snapping away with your digital machine no doubt, capturing nice memories to remind you years hence about what a joy this was, but no picture can equal the visceral thrill of being in such a stimulating place, so don’t let that camera get in the way or divert you from fully experiencing the moment. Spend a few minutes just looking, and nothing else.
It's fun just to hang out in the village for a while and do little people watching and observe the different buildings and the folks hanging out.
This walk up the hillside is really quite easy. Don't be alarmed by the stairs and elevation. You can see a lot of it is quite level and right away you get a rewarding view, this happens it within your first 10 minutes of walking up they'll you could go up higher.
Manarola spills down the hill to the waterfront, its houses packed solidly together in the typical pattern of the region, with terraced hillsides for the grapes up above.
They don’t have a beach but there is a boat ramp carved into the stone, the most popular spot around for it functions like a beach, packed with sunbathers. The ramp leads to a cove with good swimming, further protected by a stone jetty, and ladders to help people get in and out of the water.
There’s no room to put the boats in the water so they are stored up on dry land, on a ramp and along the main street as well.
There are quite a few local residents who like to hang out, sit on the bench, chat with their friends and do some people-watching. Tourists love to look at the locals, and locals equally enjoy looking back at the tourists.

Cinque Terre hike from Monterosso to Vernazza, Italy
The trail from Monterosso to Vernazza in the Cinque Terre region of Italy offers one of the grand hiking experiences of Europe. Enjoy spectacular views as the route takes you through enchanting vineyards, along cliff edges and finally to the seaside village of Vernazza where you can celebrate with great Italian food and wine at an outdoor restaurant.
From north to south, the Five Lands of Cinque Terre are Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, each about a mile apart with a total population of nearly 6,000. The hiking trail connecting them passes through terraced vineyards that offer wonderful views for much of the way and is not overly strenuous for the typical traveler. Total trail length is 7 miles, with each section between the towns covered in a comfortable walk averaging 2 hours. This episode brings you on the most popular and beautiful leg from Monterosso Al Mare to Vernazza. It's a little bigger than Corniglia and Manarola, and yet it is still very, very small -- so small that you could walk from one end to the other in about 10 minutes, but you'll want to slow down and get into the local pace. There's no rush here. Locals are just hanging out. They are enjoying life as much as the visitors do.

Vernazza is one of the five towns of Cinque Terre (Five Lands) in the Italian Riviera and is perhaps the most photographed due to its natural harbor. In this video, you can see me struggle to pull my heavy luggage up 105 steep stairs to get to my hotel (0:20); can see the beautiful town square (2:55) and views from up high (3:49); see how excited I am to eat some great gnocchi and gelato ((7:33); take a fantastic boat ride to get up close to three of the other four towns (7:49); but perhaps the highlight of the video is seeing me do my laundry! (12:57). After that, we go inside the main church (13:40); I summarize our trip (14:35) and then show you the best way to purchase your train tickets if you're going to another destination by train (15:45). Monterosso, and Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy
Monterosso, Cinque Terre, Italy, is on the north end of the chain is largest of the five hamlets and makes a good home base because it has 20 hotels, the only sandy beach, excellent restaurants, and the start of the hiking trail. It is also the only one in which long-distance trains stop, so it is easy to reach by rail service from throughout Europe.
You arrive by train at Monterosso in the newer section built in the 1970s, then walk through a short tunnel into the Old Town. The train goes right by the beaches so it’s really accessible and yet you can’t drive here very easily. The road don’t connect directly from one village to the next. So they have been protected and sheltered, and they are just as quaint and charming as could be -- for pedestrians only when you get into the heart of town.
Monterosso has a handful of historic sites, including a Cappucine convent and church, a medieval tower, castle ruins, and WWII bunker, but you are here primarily here to wander the little lanes for a few hours, admire the cluster of picturesque buildings, eat well, and use the town as a springboard for visiting the region.
Of course, for the shoppers, there’s always that chance to find the special souvenir or elusive outfit in little, out-of-the-way boutiques that you would never find at home or on the main shopping circuits, so there’s something for everybody here in the Cinque Terre.
The next destination down the coast is Vernazza, which we reach in 5 minutes by train. On this day we hiked from Vernazza to Monterosso Al Mare. In this video you will be able to see what this hike is like, see what the trails are like and see the beautiful views and scenery. Once we arrived in Monterosso we spent the afternoon on the beach where we had the opportunity to cool off, do some snorkeling, and jump off a cliff a few times.
If you're ever in Cinque Terre and you want to do some hiking I would definitely recommend this one. It is about 2.5 miles (4 km) and can be done in about 90 minutes. As you can see in my video it took me longer, but I have my reasons :) By no means would I say that this is an easy hike. The first mile to two miles is pretty steep, but not too bad. Make sure you take enough water and if you do this in the summer be prepared to sweat you a$$ off; so bring extra clothes. The trail is clearly marked and as I already mentioned the views are beautiful This video doesn't do this hike justice. It was an amazing experience and I would definitely do it again.

SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit Vernazza which is a town and comune located in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, northwestern Italy. It is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region. Vernazza is the fourth town heading north, has no car traffic, and remains one of the truest fishing villages on the Italian Riviera. It is the only natural port of Cinque Terre and is famous for its elegant houses.
In this video, I will point out why I was so disappointed in Vernazza. It was not just the huge crowds but the garbage (rubbish) all over the two beaches (including the Harbour beach) and the unpainted houses (which, according to some guide books, we supposed to look beautiful).
The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Looking for Good B&Bs in Vernazza
I spent the day climbing all over Vernazza while looking for good B&B rooms. The going rate is €70, and places with a view or terrace charge €85. Some are good, others don't make the cut. This place came with an incredible 360-degree view, but the rooms were too cramped, the layout was tortuous, and the price was just too high. Still, it was a fun visit.
