After 2 days of rain, I wanted to see if the nearby creek was overflowing. It was. I saw 2 trucks go through the water which probably wasn't a good idea. They both made it through ok, luckily . . .

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander at Blackberry Antiques in Elizabethton
In a special luncheon sponsored by Carter County Commissioner Steve Lowrance, locally-elected officials, along with 1st District Congressman Phil Roe and Tennessee's U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, spoke to an audience of over 100 people Thursday afternoon at Blackberry Antiques in Elizabethton. Alexander commented on the courage displayed by veterans from the Volunteer State. More specifically, he mentioned some local examples, including Henry Lowrance, the father of Commissioner Lowrance. During World War II, Lowrance served as a medic in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day and refused a Purple Heart after being injured. He also received the Bronze Star, with V Device, for heroism. Recorded Thursday, April 12, 2012. (Video by Jason R. Mullins)

Following in the footsteps of the Virginia Flaggers, and the Georgia Flaggers before them... the Tennessee Flaggers made their official debut in Elizabethton, TN, to protest the Watauga Historical Society and their blatant disregard for the honor and memory of Confederate soldiers buried at Green Hill Cemetery.
In what could only be described as a phenomenal success, 24 Flaggers made their way to Elizabethon on a balmy July Saturday. We gathered first in a field behind the cemetery. After a word of prayer, we marched to the cemetery, where we were joined by Elizabethton City Manager, Fred Eden, and a local news reporter. Attendees found the grounds completely overgrown and each Confederate grave covered with survey tape and orange flags.
A brief ceremony was held, where HK Edgerton also shared remarks. Several of the Flaggers gave interviews to the press and we made our way out to the road in front of the cemetery.
Smile and wave was the theme of the day. The Tennessee Flaggers had fliers printed up that described the offenses committed by the WHA and the response from the public was overwhelmingly positive. Many folks stopped to ask what was going on, and were outraged when given the facts of the situation.
The highlight of the day was when Flagger Bill Dennison spotted Dawn Peters, one of the main offenders, driving by to check out the action. Ms. Peters has said... ...The Confederates lost the right to fly that flag 150 years ago. We do not want to see that Confederate Flag flying over Green Hill Cemetery, or over Elizabethon, TN. Needless to say, she got an eyeful of Confederate flags!
Among those who joined the Tennessee Flaggers for this inaugural event were HK Edgerton and Jamie Funkhouser of NC. Others came from all across Tennessee to be a part of standing up for our Ancestors, and forwarding the colors.
After flagging, we all met again in the field behind the cemetery, to share fellowship and suggestions for future flaggings. The day was then closed with prayer, just as it began.
I had the honor and privilege of meeting one of my heroes, PoP Aaron. He and Mike Shaffer did an outstanding job in the planning and implementing of this event, as well as the organizing of the Tennessee Flaggers.
All involved were excited to be there and thrilled at the outcome. I pray that this will be the first of many flaggings for the Tennessee Flaggers and that others across the South will pick up their flags...and STAND, FIGHT, AND NEVER BACK DOWN!
God bless the Tennessee Flaggers!
[Wikipedia] Corryton, Tennessee
Corryton is an unincorporated community in northeastern Knox County, Tennessee, United States, about 15 miles northeast of Knoxville. The United States Geographic Names System classifies Corryton as a populated place. It is included in the Knoxville, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Corryton Zip Code also encompasses the adjacent community of Gibbs (sometimes known as Harbisons Crossroads).
Corryton is situated near two mountains, House Mountain (the highest point in Knox County) and Clinch Mountain. It includes a grade school, a public library, community center, and several churches including Little Flat Creek Baptist Church (founded in 1797, making it the first Baptist church organized in Knox County), Corryton Church (formerly Corryton Baptist) and Rutherford Memorial United Methodist.
John Sawyers, a Revolutionary War veteran, settled in the vicinity of what is now Corryton in 1785. He subsequently built a small fort along the Emory Road. The community remained primarily agricultural until the construction of the Knoxville, Cumberland Gap and Louisville Railroad through the area in the late 1880s. The rail station that served the community was initially known as Floyd. In 1887, an entrepreneur named Corryton Woodbury purchased the station and adjacent lands, and laid out lots in hopes of establishing a new town, which he named after himself. The lots failed to sell, however, and the venture was unsuccessful.
Gibbs High School in Corryton has several famous alumni, including country musicians Kenny Chesney, Con Hunley, Phil Leadbetter, and Ashley Monroe.
On April 25, 1983, Thomas Knauff set an FAI world record flying a glider on an out-and-return course of 1,646.68 km (1,023.20 mi), releasing from tow over Williamsport Regional Airport in Pennsylvania, flying south along the Ridge-and-valley Appalachians to take a turn-point photograph of the Little Flat Creek Church in Corryton, then returning for a landing after a 10-hour flight. The photographs were published in National Geographic magazine. This world record stood until 2003 when it was broken in Argentina, but still stands as a U.S. national record.
