Windy Day on Devon
Unusually windy conditions made for a good day for observing willow trees and flagpoles. Even the clouds in the sky seemed to race by. Stop signs were dancing to and fro. The Maxwell Street Dog place near Loyola still had its Open 24 hours sign up and rotating. I came back a week or two later and that part of the sign was gone.
126th annual parade and celebration for Memorial Day in Miamitown
WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Rich Jaffe) -- The largest Memorial Day celebration in the United States is held every year in Washington where a quarter of a million people line the streets to honor the ultimate sacrifice made by our veterans. While people can find celebrations May 25, in many communities, one of the smaller ones has been taking place for more than a century. Its in Miamitown and the little parade is very special. The Memorial Day parade in Miamitown has been a big deal for 126 years. It's got the floats and the marching band. Even with a threat of rain, longtime residents like Melissa McCabe were sure to turn out at the event. It isnt the longest Memorial Day parade; in fact the parade route is only three blocks long. But what the folks in Miamitown lack in length for the event, they make up for with heart. While on Memorial Day people are supposed to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, it's also about educating kids in regards to the significance of the day.Next year, Miamitown will celebrate its 200th anniversary.
