E quando parliamo di Natale a Napoli pensiamo subito ai presepi e alla strada dei pastori per eccellenza, quella San Gregorio Armeno conosciuta in tutto il mondo. Ma, come negli altri anni, anche in altri luoghi della città troveremo dei mercatini natalizi, delle fiere ambulanti che sono state distribuite un po in tutti i quartieri.
Via San Gregorio Armeno è la strada conosciuta in tutto il mondo per le botteghe artigiane dedicate all’arte del presepe. Grandi e famose botteghe aperte tutto l’anno dove si trova tutto ciò che serve alla costruzione del presepe. La strada è nel cuore del centro antico di Napoli e congiunge il Decumano Maggiore (via dei Tribunali) con quello inferiore (via San Biagio dei Librai) e nel periodo natalizio con la “Fiera di San Gregorio” , diventa il punto di riferimento per l’intera città e non solo.
Sono presenti statue di personaggi famosi del mondo delle spettacolo, della polica e dello sport, che diventano personaggi in miniatura del presepe.
Uno spazio per ogni tipo di collezionismo e oggetti fatti a mano: pittura, ricami, merletti, pastori, presepi, decoupage, ceramica, vetri, decorazioni...

Meglio conosciuta come 'la strada dei pastori' è una delle strade più famose della città partenopea: ogni anno turisti e i napoletani stessi affollano la strada nel periodo delle festività per l’acquisto dei pastori. Famosi in tutto il mondo per la loro arte, i maestri presepiali ci divertono con le statuine classiche e quelle di personaggi famosi. E mentre giriamo per il centro, ci gustiamo anche una bella pizza.

A tiny alley in Naples Centro Storico, along with the fish market at Porta Nolana, Via San Gregorio Armeno is the heart and soul of the Neapolitan Christmas. And by the first week of December, it is jam packed with shoppers seeking to add to their nativity scenes and thousands upon thousands of curious tourists. Open year round, I’m lucky enough to get to enjoy it without the crowds. But San Gregorio Armeno has a one of a kind vibe at Christmastime that never fails to entice.
Dismissed by serious collectors, this narrow street remains famous across Italy for its pastori (Christmas crib figurines) nonetheless. Connecting Spaccanapoli with Via dei Tribunali, the decumanus maior (main road) of ancient Neapolis, its clutter of shops and workshops peddle everything from doting donkeys to kitsch celebrity caricatures. At No 8 you'll find the workshop of Giuseppe Ferrigno, whose terracotta figurines are the most famous and esteemed on the strip.
It’s indescribable really. An ancient, narrow alley from the street plan laid down by the Greeks of the 5th Century BC. Either side lined by tall, dark palazzos creating an eerie dusk like quality that glows with twinkling Christmas lights and street and shop lights. A sea of temporary stalls carved into every alley, every palazzo, every conceivable open space adding another dimension to the permanent shops that ply their trade year round.
Shops like Ferrigno, Fratelli Capuano and Di Virgilio. Artisan’s who have passed the tradition down for the last 150 years or more. Many of whom still have tiny workrooms in the back of their stores and a few who have museums above. Some specializing in the mangers, others in the figurines.
Handcrafted of wood and terracotta, there are figurines of every type imaginable. From the traditional Nativity pieces to characters who have symbolic meanings. Figures like the Gypsy, the shepherd Benino, or Bacchus, the ancient God of Wine. From tiny replicas of everyday life, shopkeepers and innkeepers, butchers and fishmongers, animated bakers and pizzaioli. To the annual inductees into the presepe hall of fame. Everything you need to create your own Neapolitan Nativity.

Le feste natalizie ci offrono sempre il meglio delle città italiane e straniere: ogni angolo si illumina e nell'aria si respira un'atmosfera unica, quasi magica.
Napoli è certamente una di queste città che è già raggiante durante tutto l'anno, però nel periodo di Natale, soprattutto nella sua strada più famosa che prendere corpo ed anima e diviene il regno delle feste: San Gregorio Armeno. Questa piccola strada del centro storico della città era un tempo fulcro della vecchia Napoli di epoca greca. San Gregorio Armeno rappresenta il cuore dell'arte presepiale napoletana, il luogo dove il presepe è divenuto famoso in una veste assolutamente personale, scaturita dalla fantasia e dall'estro artistico dei maestri pastorai che da generazioni lavorano alacremente nelle loro botteghe.
A San Gregorio Armeno è di casa la fantasia napoletana e la tradizione: infatti sui presepi non vi sono soltanto i soliti pastorelli da Cicci Bacco in poi, ma anche numerosi personaggi attuali, che si mescolano al sacro con una nota di ironia.
