En juillet 2018, au cours d'un voyage très complet sur l'île de Sumatra en Indonésie, qui nous a emmené de Padang à l'île de Siberut chez les Mentawai puis sur l'île de Nias à la découverte de la culture mégalithique, au parc Gunung Leiser, randonner dans la jungle et observer les orangs outans, puis enfin, à la rencontre des Batak, des Minang en passant par le lac Toba, nous avons réalisé l'ascension de l'actif volcan Kerinci, à 3 800 mètres d'altitude, le volcan le plus haut d'Indonésie et le sommet le plus élevé d'Indonésie occidentale.

The Cacheu and Cape Verde Company (Portuguese: Companhia de Cacheu e Cabo Verde) was a Portuguese chartered company created by Portugal and served the colonies of Cacheu and Cape Verde It was created under the economic reforms of Luís de Meneses, 3rd Count of Ericeira under King Peter II.
It succeeded the Company of Cacheu and Rivers and Commerce of Guinea in which its activities ended in 1682, with the same objectives: improve trade with manufactured fabrics, ivory and slaves between the coast of Guinea (now compromising Guinea-Bissau) and Cape Verde and Brazil.
It was created by Alvará Régio on 3 January 1690. A short period of success which later faced slave trade competition with the Spanish Americas between 1696 and 1703. In the same year, the crown had ceased to renew the contract for exploration, as it piled up, which led to the abandonment to the Captaincy of Bissau in 1707 as Fort Bissau was destroyed.The drop and cessation of the company's activities provoked a economic stagnation in two African territories would only come back to recover decades later with the transfer of its rights to the Grão Pará and Maranhão General Company based in the Portuguese colony in Brazil from 1757 to 1777. During the end of the Pombaline Era, the company became part of the Islands of Cape Verde, Bissau and Cacheu Chartered and Commerce Company which lasted until 1786, it existed until it became the African Coast Trading Company in 1886.

Fogo island in Cape Verde is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited

Fogo Island in Cape Verde is an astonishing place. It's an active volcanic area with the last eruption being in 2014. Despite their homes being buried by the volcano the people of the caldera have moved back and ar rebuilding their home on the lava flow that destroyed their village. The highest point in Cape Verde is on Fogo and is the summit of an active volcano that you can climb up to. This is a truly spectacular location. Our hotel was rebuilt on the lava from the 2014 eruption.

We drove from Novo Porto up the old trade road to this fantastic crater full of fields and crops. The mist rolled in and we descended the other side blissfully unaware of the sheer drops at every bend.
