Victoria Falls, Livingstone, Zambia
We traveled to Livingstone, Zambia from Lusaka (the capital of Zambia) in 2011. Livingstone is a quaint little town with lots for visitors to do and experience. Most of the activities center around Victoria Falls for obvious reasons. In addition to visiting the Falls (which is amazing after the rainy season - usually November to the end of March), we also did the tandem gorge swing (operated by Abseil Zambia) and went to the Crocodile Farm. (Other activities: river rafting, bungee jumping, ziplining, abseiling, helicopter flights, river cruises, horseback riding, quad bike riding...The list goes on!)
Victoria Falls, Zambia & Zimbabwe in 4K Ultra HD
Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular, awe-inspiring waterfalls on our planet. It is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, on Zambezi River. Also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya - The Smoke That Thunders. The mist from the waterfall can be seen from far away and sustains nearby rainforest.
Victoria Falls is considered the largest waterfall, based on its combined width (1,708 m/5,604 ft) and height (108 m/354 ft), even though it is not the highest or the widest. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A walk from Zimbabwe to Zambia, at Victoria Falls
Zimbabwe and Zambia are connected by a hundred-year-old bridge spanning a gorge over the Zambezi River, near the famous Victoria Falls. In September 2014, I walked across the bridge with my video camera. This film shows some of what I saw, heard, and learned along the way.

Zambia, Livingstone - Trip from Victoria Falls to Zambia (2019)
Victoria Falls shrinks to a trickle after worst drought in a century
Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls have slowed down to a trickle after an unprecedented decline in water levels, officials have said. Data from the Zambezi River Authority showed water flow at its lowest since 1995, and well under the long term average. Zambian President Edgar Lungu said it was a stark reminder of what climate change is doing to our environment, yet some scientists are cautious about categorically blaming the climate crisis. Harald Kling, a hydrologist at engineering firm Poyry and a Zambezi river expert, said climate science dealt in decades, not particular years, “so it’s sometimes difficult to say this is because of climate change because droughts have always occurred”.

Swimming in the Devil's Pool of Victoria Falls in Livingstone, Zambia
This was one of the greatest experiences of our lives! I am so afraid of heights, but this was on my bucket list forever, so I just did it. The guides were amazing and made me feel so safe and comfortable. They were very professional. We used 'Victoria Falls Guide' to book this. If you are thinking of doing this, make sure you book your trip between the end of August through early January or else you won't be able to go. You have to go when the water levels are low. Also, make sure you book ahead of time or else you will not be able go. We met quite a few people who did not book ahead and were not able to do the Devil's swim. They only allow a few people per day.
Flying over Victoria Falls & the Zambezi River - Landing in Livingstone, Zambia
Landing a Kenya Airways flight in Livingstone at the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport in Zambia on the Zimbabwe border seeing the mist of Victoria Falls.
Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya (Tokaleya Tonga: The Smoke That Thunders), is a waterfall in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It has been described by CNN as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world.
David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855, from what is now known as Livingstone Island, one of two land masses in the middle of the river, immediately upstream from the falls on the Zambian side. Livingstone named his discovery in honour of Queen Victoria of Britain, but the indigenous Tonga name, Mosi-oa-Tunya—The Smoke That Thunders—continues in common usage as well. The World Heritage List officially recognizes both names.
The nearby national park in Zambia is named Mosi-oa-Tunya, whereas the national park and town on the Zimbabwean shore are both named Victoria Falls.
While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, Victoria Falls is classified as the largest, based on its combined width of 1,708 metres (5,604 ft) and height of 108 metres (354 ft), resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling water. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of North America's Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. In height and width Victoria Falls is rivalled only by Argentina and Brazil's Iguazu Falls.
For a considerable distance upstream from the falls, the Zambezi flows over a level sheet of basalt, in a shallow valley, bounded by low and distant sandstone hills. The river's course is dotted with numerous tree-covered islands, which increase in number as the river approaches the falls. There are no mountains, escarpments, or deep valleys; only a flat plateau extending hundreds of kilometres in all directions.
The Zambezi (also spelled Zambeze and Zambesi) is the fourth-longest river in Africa, the longest east-flowing river in Africa and the largest flowing into the Indian Ocean from Africa. The area of its basin is 1,390,000 square kilometres (540,000 sq mi), slightly less than half that of the Nile. The 2,574-kilometre-long river (1,599 mi) rises in Zambia and flows through eastern Angola, along the eastern border of Namibia and the northern border of Botswana, then along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe to Mozambique, where it crosses the country to empty into the Indian Ocean.
The Zambezi's most noted feature is Victoria Falls. Other notable falls include the Chavuma Falls at the border between Zambia and Angola, and Ngonye Falls, near Sioma in Western Zambia.
There are two main sources of hydroelectric power on the river, the Kariba Dam, which provides power to Zambia and Zimbabwe, and the Cahora Bassa Dam in Mozambique, which provides power to Mozambique and South Africa. There is also a smaller power station at Victoria Falls.
