PLAIN OF SIX GLACIERS TEA HOUSE
The less-travelled to of the Tea Houses, the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House Trail offers stunning views of the glaciers and mountains that surround Lake Louise.
The Tea House was built in 1924 by Swiss guides employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Constructed to house mountaineers en route to Mount Victoria and Mount Lefroy, today the Tea House offers refreshments and food to hikers. Like the Lake Agnes Tea House, it has no electricity or running water. Supplies are flown in by helicopter at the start of the season, and additional goods are packed in by horses or staff.
The hike to the Tea House is moderately challenging, and can be accomplished by people of average fitness.
unquestionably ... one of the most gorgeous hikes in the world, culminating in the oasis of a Tibetan-style tea house.
– Bill Thompson, The Post and Courier, August 2015
Trail information
The Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House hike is 5.3 kilometres (3.4 miles) one way, with a 370 metre (1,215 feet) elevation gain. It takes most people around 4 to 6 hours for the round trip. It’s well worth making a short side trip from the Tea House to the Abbot Pass viewpoint, to take a look down into crevasses on the Lower Victoria Glacier.

Plain of Six Glaciers/Victoria Glacier, Banff National Park - 07/15/2017
The hike to the Plain of Six Glaciers is one of Banff National Park's classic hikes.
Avalanche, Plain of Six Glaciers, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, August 10, 2012
This video was captured just after 1pm, Friday, August 10, 2012, in Banff National Park, Canada, from near the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House, above Lake Louise.
There was a small avalanche that drew people's attention, which is why I, Stephanie Johanson, managed to catch the larger avalanche that followed with my Olympus Tough TG-610 14 megapixel digital camera. At the beginning of this clip there is a photo that was taken just after the smaller avalanche and before this avalanche.
The hike from Chateau Lake Louise, along the lake shore trail, and then 5.5 km up to the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House at an elevation of 2100 meters, takes a lot out of someone who is used to hiking closer to sea level, but the view is worth it. We kept hearing avalanches as we hiked, but because of the distance the sound took a while to get to us.

Victoria Glacier, seen in this video. Like many others glacier in the Rockies are the roots of few rivers. Rock flour is fine powdery rock that has been crushed and ground by a glacier. Lake Louise is a beautiful green color.

Vraiment impressionnant.

Lake Louise Hiking Banff National Park Alberta Canada
#lakelouise #hiking #banff #rockymountainshiking #
The hamlet is named for the nearby Lake Louise, which in turn was named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939), the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, and the wife of John Campbell, the 9th Duke of Argyll, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
Lake Louise is what makes Banff National Park the phenomenon it is, an awe-inspiring natural feature that is impossible to describe without resorting to shameless clichés. Standing next to the serene, implausibly turquoise lake, the natural world feels (and is) tantalizingly close, with a surrounding amphitheater of finely chiseled mountains that hoist Victoria Glacier up for all to see. Famous for its teahouses, grizzly bears and hiking trails, it's also well-known for its much-commented-on 'crowds,' plus a strangely congruous (or incongruous – depending on your viewpoint) lump of towering concrete known as Chateau Lake Louise. But, frankly, who cares? You don't come to Lake Louise to dodge other tourists. You come to share in one of the most spectacular sights in the Rockies, one that has captured the imaginations of mountaineers, artists and visitors for more than a century.
