Victoria Gate Opening Ceremony, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England - 20th October, 2016.
Victoria Gate is a £165 million retail development in Leeds, it is flanked by the inner ring road, a major arterial route surrounding Leeds city centre. It is adjacent to the established Victoria Quarter shopping arcade, The Headrow, Leeds Markets and the Leeds City bus station.
Victoria Gate is home to a John Lewis department store, as well as a number of high-profile retailers and a super casino.
This film features views taken on the 20th October from 09:30 to 10:30 during the opening ceremony for the shopping mall. It includes: the crowds on Vicar Lane; the band Scouting for Girls who were playing to the waiting masses; fireworks; and then views around Victoria Gate, including the architecture, the shops, a high performance BMW i8 supercar and some fancy designer chocolate.

Leeds City Centre Floods, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK - 26th December, 2015
After several days of heavy rain on already saturated ground, the River Aire (like many rivers in Northern England) broke its banks in several places in Leeds city centre (as well as elsewhere). This film was taken from a walk beginning at 15:40 next to Leeds Railway Station on Princes Square and ending just shortly after 18:20 on East Street (A61).
The film features views of the River Aire at full flow and in flood: at Leeds Station Southern Entrance; from Victoria Bridge; from behind Asda House; on Meadow Lane; on Water Lane; at Bridge End; from Leeds Bridge; from Riverside Court; from Centenary Bridge; at Brewery Place; along Dock Street; from behind Oracle; from Crown Point Bridge; along East Street; through Turlow Court; and most dramatically at the junction of East Street (A61) and Marsh Lane.
At 11:50 there is a barge which has become wedged under a balcony / walkway, lifting the balcony / walkway above it. This is just under Centenary Bridge, opposite Oracle Bar.

According to the Environment Agency, the River Aire went on to reach 2.93 metres at Crown Point at 23:30. It's typical height is between 0.53 and 1.35 metres.

Leeds shopping guide 2019 (Things to do in Leeds)
Explore Leeds's most popular shopping locations with this virtual tour around the city. With numerous shopping streets, centres and arcades it is easy for first time visitors to the city to feel overwhelmed. Where should I go first? How far is it from here to there? Should I get the bus with my shopping or can I walk?
I've mapped out an easy route around the city, taking into consideration the likelihood that you'll be increasing your haul along the journey.
This video guides you along a route which prioritises up hill walking first, allowing an easier walk later whilst you have more bags. The route also includes a couple of rest areas for drinks and snacks, and saves the more popular shopping locations (where you're more likely to make purchases) for towards the end of the day when you won't have as far to carry everything.

Leeds is the largest city in the county of West Yorkshire, England and is known for its shopping, nightlife, universities, and sports. Leeds has become the largest legal and financial centre, outside London. Leeds is an attractive city with Georgian, Victorian, 20th and 21st century architecture and many museums, cafés, restaurants and theatres to visit.
LOCATION
Leeds is located 169 miles (272 km) north-northwest of London, on the valley of the River Aire. The city centre lies in a narrow section of the Aire Valley at about 206 feet (63 m) above sea level. The northern boundary follows the River Wharfe for several miles, but it crosses the river to include the part of Otley which lies north of the river.
HISTORY
Leeds was a small manorial borough in the 13th century, and in the 17th and 18th centuries it became a major centre for the production and trading of wool, and in the Industrial Revolution a major mill town.
POPULATION
Leeds has the second-highest population of any local authority district in the UK. The majority of people in Leeds identify themselves as Christian. The proportion of Muslims is 3.0% of the population. Leeds has the third-largest community of Jews in the United Kingdom, after those of London and Manchester.
CLIMATE
Leeds has a climate that is oceanic. Summers are usually mild, with moderate rainfall, while winters are chilly, cloudy with occasional snow and frost. July is the warmest month, with a mean temperature of 16 °C (61 °F), while the coldest month is January, with a mean temperature of 3 °C (37 °F). Temperatures above 30 °C (86 °F) and below −10 °C (14 °F) are not very common but can happen occasionally.
TRANSPORT
Leeds-Bradford International Airport. Leeds is very accessible by air from major European destinations, with an airport 10 miles north-west of the city centre. Budget airline Jet2 offer a wide range of flights to and from Leeds. Leeds has been identified as one of the most car-dependent cities in the UK. There is a regular bus service into the city (journey time 35 minutes) and cabs are plentiful.
ECONOMY
Leeds has one of the most diverse economies of all the UK's main employment centres and has seen the fastest rate of private-sector jobs growth of any UK city. It also has the highest ratio of private to public sector jobs of all the UK's Core Cities. Leeds is the cultural, financial and commercial heart of the West Yorkshire Urban Area. more than 30 national and international banks located in the city. The largest sub-sectors are engineering, printing and publishing, food and drink, chemicals and medical technology.

The Rampage Cycling Race at Victoria Leeds
A UK first, The Rampage was a lung-busting uphill battle between two riders to the summit of our car park, with the first rider across the finish line going through to the next round. With just under 200 riders taking part, the heats continued until one rider was left standing.
