Sustainability:-
Construction of Victoria Square development August 2007
In employment terms, over 3,000 people were involved in the construction phase of Victoria Square, with a further 3,000 people gaining employment in the scheme through jobs in retail, security and the service industries. Environmentally, a large section of the roof has been covered in Sedum in a direct attempt to reduce the carbon footprint of Victoria Square. This material soaks up rainwater allowing it to evaporate naturally over time rather than overload draining systems.
Victoria Square is the largest ever retail-led regeneration scheme to open in Northern Ireland, covering 1.8 hectares. Multi Development UK was appointed Department for Social Development's development partner in 2000. The scheme was granted outline-planning approval in 2002. Multi Corporation sold Victoria Square to Comers Real in 2004. Today Victoria Square is valued at over £400m. Construction commenced in April 2004 and lasted 46 months to completion and was overseen by local joint venture contractors Farrans and Gilbert Ash. Sedum roof installed by BBS Green Roofing.

Victoria Square Belfast Evening Christmas Walk Through 2018
I haven't been into Victoria Square Belfast for a long time. I don't like shopping so normally I deliberately stay away from all shopping centres. Tonight I visited Belfast's Victoria Square to have a quick Christmas dander through it. Here then is my Victoria Square Belfast Christmas walk through, taking in the evening sights sounds and atmosphere.

Victoria Square 10 Facts
1 Victoria Square stands on a 14-acre site in the heart of the oldest part of Belfast city centre.
2 Victoria Square took over six years to complete and around 6,000 people were involved in its construction.
3 The centre played a major role in Belfast’s regeneration, extending city centre retail space by almost one third.
4 At 800,000 ft² (75,000m²) Victoria Square represents the largest ever commercial development in Northern Ireland.
5 It is home to an iconic yellow statue
The yellow Jaffe Fountain at Victoria Square was first constructed in 1874. It was moved to Botanic Gardens in 1933 but returned to its original home in Victoria Square in 2008 after a complete restoration.
6 So far, Victoria Square has brought 150+ new brands to Northern Ireland including House of Fraser, Apple, Hollister, Reiss, Ted Baker, Jo Malone, Mulberry, Cruise, Boux Avenue, Zizzi and Five Guys.
7 With so many shops, it's no surprise that Victoria Square has created a lot of jobs for the city. Victoria Square currently employs almost 2,500 people.
8 A large section of the main roof of the Victoria Square is covered in sedum, a combination of moss and heather, in a direct attempt to reduce the carbon footprint of the building. The material soaks up rainwater allowing it to evaporate naturally over time rather than overload drainage systems.
9 The dome is a work of art
364 individual rectangular panes of four times glazed glass make up the Victoria Square dome – a now iconic feature on the Belfast city skyline and a great spot to enjoy panoramic views of the city.
10 The shopping centre has raised over £200,000 for charity with events and activities ranging from abseils to bake sales!
