Views from Victoria Tower, Guernsey
Views from Victoria Tower, St. Peter Port, Guernsey. Where the Victoria Tower is there used to be a prehistoric dolmen. Then in 1555 the dolmen was destroyed and a windmill was built there. Then in 1846 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited Guernsey, the first time a reigning monarch had visited here. It was then decided to build a tower to commemorate the visit and in 1848 the windmill was demolished and the 100ft high Victoria Tower was built.
From the top of the tower many local historic landmarks can be seen as well as the other Channel Islands of Alderney, Jersey, Sark, Jethou and Herm and the Cherbourg Peninsula, France which is about 30 miles away. Alderney, Jersey and France can actually be seen much better with your eyes then my camera sees them.

the Little Chapel, Guernsey
The Little Chapel was a work of art and labour of love built by Brother Déodat, who started work in March 1914. His plan was to create a miniature version of the famous grotto and basilica at Lourdes in France. The version you see today is actually the third version.
The first, measuring a tiny 9 feet long by 4.5 feet wide, was criticised, so Brother Deodat spent the following night demolishing the building. He soon set to work again and, in July 1914, the grotto was completed and officially blessed. This survived until September 1923; Brother Deodat demolished it in that month because the Bishop of Portsmouth had not been able to fit through the doorway.
He soon set about the construction of a third chapel - which we see today. The building operation proved laborious, collecting pebbles and broken china to decorate the shrine. Then suddenly the Little Chapel became famous, thanks to an illustrated article in the Daily Mirror. Presents poured in from around the world and Islanders brought coloured china to Les Vauxbelets with the Lieutenant-Governor offering a remarkable mother-of-pearl.
In 1939 Brother Deodat returned to France because of ill health. After his departure the care of the Little Chapel was entrusted to Brother Cephas, who continued to decorate the building until his retirement in 1965. In 1977, a committee was established to restore the chapel and today it falls under the care of Blanchelande College.
There is no charge to enter the Chapel as it relies totally on public donations.

On-board British Airways BA2775 from Jersey to London Gatwick, UK on Monday 25th May 2015. PLEASE READ:
After a lovely few nights in the beautiful island of Jersey, it was time to head back to London - flying British Airways for this short sector.
It had been 11 months since my last BA flight - I was very impressed with the service on-board this ex-BMI Airbus A319 aircraft. After boarding, we pushed back on our scheduled departure time of 17:25 and made a relatively short taxi to runway 27. Once airborne we climbed to 24,000 feet, passing Guernsey & Cherbourg before descending and landing into a cloudy London Gatwick.
We arrived at an international stand, as this plane was scheduled to operate BA2710 to Barcelona that evening. We was bused to the terminal - saw loads of Easyjet aircraft's pushing back!

GUERNSEY, EXPLORING beautiful ST PETER PORT ???? (CHANNEL ISLANDS)
SUBSCRIBE: - Saint Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey as well as the main port. The population in 2001 was 16,488. In Guernésiais and in French, historically the official language of Guernsey, the name of the town and its surrounding parish is St Pierre Port. Guernsey is one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel near the French coast, and is a self-governing British Crown dependency. It's known for beach resorts like Cobo Bay and the scenery of its coastal cliffs. Castle Cornet, a 13th-century harbor fortification in the capital of St. Peter Port, now contains history and military museums. Hauteville House is the lavish former home of French writer, Victor Hugo.

Victoria Tower Gardens London Holocaust Memorial
Victoria Tower Gardens is beautiful public park with amazing views of Parliament's Palace of Westminster and the River Thames. In 2017 architect Sir David Adjaye won a competition to convert the park into London's second Holocaust Memorial. It is the wrong site for the right memorial. Victorial Tower Gardens are owned and managed by the Royal Parks Charity. Its chairman, Loyd Grossman, does not support the decision by David Cameron's government, to inflict a disaster on a much-loved public open space.
