This video supposed to be more 'Interesting' rather than 'Entertaining'. Its a no frills edit of the full tour. A 2 hour tour cut down to less than 1 hour, so that you still have reason to go for yourself.
I only made this video because many people that live round here dont even know it exists! I didnt until 2 weeks before before the tour and even the tour guide said that for 10 years he wasnt even aware of the tunnel! So yeah, maybe a few Locals will find this interesting, especially thanks to Kay and Daves stories.

Victoria Tunnel Newcastle Upon Tyne
Is anyone there in the tunnel?
Ghost hunting in The Victoria Tunnel - Newcastle
An underground tunnel originally built to transport coal under Newcastle, the Victoria Tunnel was later converted into an air raid shelter during the second world war, and in that time, it has seen it's fair share of tragedy and drama.
In 2018, a tour guide claimed to have seen the figure of a man while he was showing members of the public the inside of the tunnel. That, and along with strange footsteps, voices, bangs and growls, this tunnel is said to be one of the most actively haunted locations in Newcastle.
To see our video exploring the abandoned north end of the tunnel, please watch here -

Victorian Tunnels Newcastle 12th May 2018
SLS Kinect Camera footage caught down in the tunnel.
Newcastle Upon Tyne. Ouseburn and Victoria Tunnel. 26.09.2015. Panasonic HC V130.
Here is a video showing the Ouseburn and some of the area nearby. We also went down the Victoria tunnel and I tried to video some of that visit. It was fairly dark in there but managed to get a few seconds of it just to give an idea of what it was like, should you decide to go yourself. A very interesting 2 hours spent learning the history of the tunnel from when it was built, to its use during the war as an air-raid shelter.
I've also added this link to a video of a walk along the Quayside, showing an open Millennium Bridge, and a walk along the riverside path.
OUSEBURN CULVERT, NEWCASTLE UK
Ouseburn Culvert in Newcastle also none as Byker Culvert.
Originally an open dene, Work started in 1907 on a Culvert and filling in the area with industrial waste. The land created was said to be unstable and could not support the original housing plans by Newcastle Corporation.
In 1961, Councillor T. Dan Smith proposed that the area be used as a sports stadium, to be completed in time for the Empire Games of 1966.
These plans never materialised.
In WW2 the tunnel was converted into a shelter for 3000 people, Work included a concrete platform floor a little above stream level and blast walls. Facilities included, a canteen, library, wardens’ offices and a stage.
Front door way entrance concreted up and gape way in the middle of tunnel now bricked up 2019

Newcastle's Victoria Tunnel
The Victoria Tunnel was built as a subterranean wagonway to take coal from the former site of the Spital Tongues Colliery to Newcastle Quay (near the Glasshouse Bridge in Byker). The tunnel was cut through clay and is constructed using base courses of stone upon which an inverted brick arch was built. The loaded wagons descended the incline of the tunnel under their own weight and were drawn back to the colliery by a wire rope attached to a stationary engine.
During the Second World War the tunnel was converted for use as an air raid shelter with wooden benches and bunks installed, as well as chemical toilets, anti-blast baffles, lime washed walls and a number of new entrances.
At some point an 800 metre section of the tunnel (between Ellison Place and Queen Victoria Road) was converted into a sewer to replace the Pandon Sewer.
The tunnel is 2.4 kilometres in length with a maximum depth of 26 metres and drops approximately 67.5 metres from top to bottom. It remains largely intact.

A Quick Tour of Newcastle's Castle (22nd October 2017)
22nd October 2017
Just a quick tour of the castle at Newcastle. I took my daughter to see the keep at Newcastle and see where William Winter and co. were held while awaiting trial (see my Halloween special video:
I had to heavily edit the footage for my daughter's safety so put it to music - probably less boring than explaining the workings of a medieval toilet to my daughter.
But thought I would upload it in case anyone was curious as to what the inside of Newcastle's castle looked like and whether it is worth paying the £6 (adult) £3.50 (child) £5.50 (concession) fee.

BUMP IN THE NIGHT EP 4 VICTORIAN TUNNELS OUSEBURN NEWCASTLE
Trying to get into Byker Culvert/Newcastle tunnels
Under Newcastle upon Tyne there's a lot tunnels. Byker Culvert is one of many. Spanning 2km long and held safely 3000 people during ww2 it is rich in history. originally made for vehicles to drive under, however soon was made into a landfill site. When the law on landfill was changed the tunnel was deemed as useless and soon become forgotten. Making it a great place to explore, if we could get in.
------------------------------------------
Where is Byker Culver?
It is located under the Byker metro bridge outside ouseburn farm. It is closest to manors metro station. Once under the metro bridge follow the path until you get to where the river disappears under a bridge. Go under that bridge. Follow the path and it will lead you to a gate. This gate is locked, so unless you have a hack saw or can pick locks there's no getting in.

TUNNEL EXPLORATION [douglas darkie] victoria, bc
SORRY FOR THE BAD QUALITY CAMERAS DO NOT WORK WELL IN THERE. This is a video of me, michael, and jacob doing the douglas darkie tunnel in victoria, bc. The tunnel is filled with water and raw sewage, making for a very bad smell. the tunnel is also made mostly out of wood, witch is very uncommon to see in a tunnel of that size. In the tunnel we also saw evidence of satanic rituals being preformed.
thanks for watching and if you enjoyed please subscribe!
Exploring the Victoria Tunnel's abandoned north end (closed to the public)
This is the follow up to a previous video of a ghost hunt inside Newcastle's Victoria Tunnel.
The Victoria Tunnel was once a coal wagon way opened in 1842, transporting coal from a colliery at Spital Tongues to boats on the River Tyne. However, it closed in 1860 with the demise of the colliery, and sealed up.
However, in 1939, air raid shelters were needed for WWII, and the tunnel was rediscovered, and converted for the safety of 10,000 Newcastle residents to shelter inside during bombing raids. After the war, it was once again closed and forgotten about until funding made guided tours and events possible. This included modern lighting, speakers for sound effects and replica seating to be added. These tours and events take place in the 700 meter section at Ouseburn (the south end). This is where Part 1 was filmed.
Sadly the 2.4 mile tunnel is no longer a complete tunnel. It was sealed up at New Bridge street with the central section (below the Central Motorway) used as an overflow drain, and is only accessible to Northumbrian water engineers.
However, a 1 mile section of tunnel does still exist is is completely off-limits to the public. I was given permission to film inside thanks to The Ouseburn Trust. They are the only people who have access to this north section of tunnel.
The purpose of this video was not to conduct a paranormal investigation, as I was given a small time frame in which to record, but rather to be used as an educational video for those interested in the tunnel and seeing what this section looks like.
If you are wanting to go inside the tunnel, you can book a guided tour here -
Sadly, over the years, the north end has been broken into several times, and we cannot condone this. People have left the place a mess, with graffiti and bottles left lying around. While the ways in have now been secured, its sad to think that those people have vandalised a piece of Victorian and WWII history, and that's not cool. There is damage that cannot be repaired. If you want to see the tunnel, do it properly on a tour at the south end.
To find out more about the tragic past of the Victoria Tunnel, it is included in our blog. There is also a link to part 1, which talks in depth about the tunnel and the colliery's sad history.
