Обелиск Победы г. Тверь - Горсад 27 апреля 2013г. Victory Obelisk Tver - Garden City
А. Крылову.

S. Kadik Shumilova MS).

The Victory Monument is a memorial place dedicated to all the members of the anti-Nazi coalition: those who fought against Nazi-Germany in World War II.
The Monument has three parts. A column with stars on the top that represents each year that World War II was fought. There is also a statue of a woman who represents liberty, and also a grouping of three soldiers.
Flag poles where the flags of the former Soviet Republics flew can be seen in the background. They are not used today.
The 79- meter high monument to the soldiers of the Soviet Army - the monument of victory - was built in 1985. The obelisk is five-pronged, each one of which surmounted by a pentagonal star, symbolizing five years of Soviet fighting in World War II. The rays of the star form a spiral, symbolizing the inevitability of victory. On either side of the gray and pink granite obelisk are two groups of sculptures, symbolizing 'Motherland' and 'War-liberators'.
'Motherland' - the initial intention was to place a child in the mother's arms, however, political censorship prohibited this as it was contended that any woman with a young child during the war would have been one of easy virtue as her husband would have been at the Front fighting.
These sub-machine-gun toting soldiers represent 'liberators'.
9 May 2010 Russian Victory Day Celebration at Victory Monument with flowers laid at its base. This monument is a sacred place in the hearts and minds of every Russian person who live in and around Riga. This is the only tie they have to there Motherland and World War II which is known to the Russians as The Great Patriotic War. May 9th is the official Russian Victory Day over Nazi Germany because when the German Instrument of Surrender actually entered into force May 8, 1945 at 23:01 CET, it was already May 9 by Moscow Time.
Authors Note: Contrary to some people's belief, this memorial was designed erected and dedicated to all the members of the anti-Nazi coalition: those who fought against Nazi-Germany in World War II who had invaded their Motherland.
For the Soviet Union's Civilian Politicians, Civilian Political Leader's of the Central Committee, People's Commissar Which is an official of the Communist Party in charge of political indoctrination and the enforcement of party loyalty, members of the NKVD and all those who were card carrying members of the Communist Party were responsible for these inhuman and barbaric acts that were carried out against the people. For the common solders were nothing more then conscripts who could suffer summary execution or imprison if they failed or did not carry out their orders.
When one has to live under Tyranny and Total Dictatorship and with the daily fear and terror of being arrested for no reason, possibility being summary executed, thrown into prison or even possibility being sent to a GULAG Forced Labor Camp for the rest of your life, you will do what it takes to survive.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Saint Petersburg (Russian: Санкт-Петербу́рг, tr. Sankt-Peterburg, IPA: [ˈsankt pʲɪtʲɪrˈburk] (listen)) is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, with 5 million inhabitants in 2012, part of the Saint Petersburg agglomeration with a population of 6.2 million (2015). An important Russian port on the Baltic Sea, it has a status of a federal subject (a federal city).
Situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, it was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May [O.S. 16 May] 1703. During the periods 1713–1728 and 1732–1918, Saint Petersburg was the capital of Imperial Russia. In 1918, the central government bodies moved to Moscow, which is about 625 km (388 miles) to the south-east.
Saint Petersburg is often considered Russia's cultural capital. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Petersburg is home to the Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world. Many foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and businesses have offices in Saint Petersburg.
