Russia's new secret weapon: Self-propelled artillery system Lotus. New Russian weapons
The serial production of new self-propelled artillery gun Lotus is to start in 2020.
New Lotus vehicles are to roll across Red Square on Victory Day on May 9 2019. The new development of the Russian defence industry can operate like a common howitzer, but it can also destroy targets with high-trajectory fire, like a mortar.
The Lotus is produced with the use of elements of low-frequency electronic stealth technology to make it less conspicuous on the battlefield. The Lotus vehicle is also equipped with a digital fire control system.
The prospective 120-mm Lotos gun is designed to replace the Nona-S self-propelled gun for units of airborne forces and naval infantry. Design features of the vehicle remain classified.
However, the Russian Technologies Corporation has exposed a few details about the performance of the new system.
- The maximum firing range reaches 13 km;
- The targeted rate of fire - 6-8 shots per minute;
- The weight makes up 18 tons;
- The maximum speed - up to 70 km/h.
The Lotus vehicle can be transported on board military transport aircraft, from where it can be parachuted down for landing operations.

Commander Vladimir Putin visits new Russian Military Army Command Center
Russia's New Stealth Submarine
The new Borei-class SSBN is 580 feet long, has a hull diameter of 42 feet, and a crew of 107, including 55 officers. It can dive to a maximum depth of about 1,500 feet and yields a submerged speed of roughly 30 knots. The sub has a compact, hydro-dynamically efficient hull for reduced broadband noise and uses pump-jet propulsion. Pump-jet propulsion reduces noise and provides the submarine with a higher tactical ‘silent speed’ and increased maneuverability. This makes the submarine more difficult to detect.
Sweden to use GAY PROPAGANDA to scare away Russian Navy Submarines
Peace activists in Sweden are using gay propaganda to defend against Russian Navy submarines from entering Swedish waters. The Russian Navy (Russian: Военно-морской Флот Российской Федерации (ВМФ России), tr. Voyenno-morskoy Flot Rossiyskoy Federatsii (VMF Rossii), lit. Military-Maritime Fleet of the Russian Federation) is the naval arm of the Russian military. The present Russian Navy was formed in January 1992, succeeding the Navy of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which had itself succeeded the Soviet Navy following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991.
The regular Russian Navy was established by Peter the Great (Peter I) in October 1696. Ascribed to Peter I is the oft quoted statement: A ruler that has but an army has one hand, but he who has a navy has both. The symbols of the Russian Navy, the St. Andrew's flag and ensign (seen to the right), and most of its traditions were established personally by Peter I.
Neither Jane's Fighting Ships nor the International Institute for Strategic Studies list any standard ship prefixes for the vessels of the Russian Navy. For official U.S. Navy photographs, they are sometimes referred to as RFS — Russian Federation Ship. However, the Russian Navy does not use this convention for itself.
The Russian Navy possesses the vast majority of the former Soviet naval forces, and currently comprises the Northern Fleet, the Russian Pacific Fleet, the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Russian Baltic Fleet, the Russian Caspian Flotilla, Naval Aviation, and the coastal troops (consisting of the naval infantry and the coastal missile and artillery troops).
A recently approved rearmament program has placed the development of the navy on an equal footing with the strategic nuclear forces for the first time in Soviet and Russian history. The program, covering the period until 2015, is expected to see the replacement of 45 percent of the inventory of the Russian Navy.[2] Out of 4.9 trillion rubles ($192.16 billion) allocated for military rearmament, 25 percent will go into building new ships. We are already building practically as many ships as we did in Soviet times, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said during a visit to Severodvinsk in July 2007, The problem now is not lack of money, but how to optimize production so that the navy can get new ships three, not five, years after laying them down.[3]
The Russian Navy suffered severely since the dissolution of the Soviet Union due to insufficient maintenance, lack of funding and subsequent effects on the training of personnel and timely replacement of equipment. Another setback is attributed to Russia's domestic shipbuilding industry which is reported to have been in decline as to their capabilities of constructing contemporary hardware efficiently. Some analysts even say that because of this Russia's naval capabilities have been facing a slow but certain irreversible collapse.[4][5] Some analysts say that the recent rise in gas and oil prices has enabled a sort of renaissance of the Russian Navy due to increased available funds, which may allow Russia to begin developing the capacity to modernize.[6] In August 2014, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russian naval capabilities would be bolstered with new weapons and equipment within the next six years in response to NATO deployments in eastern Europe and recent developments in Ukraine.
Deployments and increase in activity
In the last years of the 1990s naval activity was very low. Even at the height of the Kosovo war crisis a planned task group deployment to the Mediterranean was reduced to the dispatch of the intelligence ship Liman. 2003 saw a major increase in activity, including several major exercises. A May joint exercise with the Indian Navy saw two Pacific Fleet destroyers and four vessels from the Black Sea Fleet, led by the Slava-class cruiser Moskva , deployed for three months into the Indian Ocean. The largest out-of-area deployment for a decade, the INDRA 2003 exercise, was highlighted by a series of missile launches by two Tu-160s and four Tu-95s, which made a 5,400-mile (8,700 km) round trip flight from Engels-2 air base near Saratov to the exercise area.[43] In August 2003 the Navy also participated in the Far Eastern exercise Vostok-2003, which saw the Slava-class cruiser Varyag and the Sovremennyy class destroyer Bystryy active, as well as an amphibious landing carried out by three Pacific Fleet Ropucha class LSTs. Warships and helicopters from the Japanese and South Korean navies also took part. The Northern Fleet followed in January 2004 when thirteen ships and seven submarines took part in exercises in the Barents Sea. The involvement of Admiral Kuznetsov and Kirov-class battlecruiser nuclear-powered cruiser Petr Velikiy was overshadowed however by two ballistic missile launch failures
Russia Deploys The Whole Northern Fleet To NATO Atlantic Resolve
This Is 'It', Russia Deploys The Whole Northern Fleet To NATO Atlantic Resolve. Russia is modernizing all three legs of its nuclear triad, strategic bombers, silo-missiles and strategic submarine fleet. Later this year, the first of the upgraded Borei-class submarines, the «Knyaz Vladimir»will be floated out. In difference from the first three Borei-class submarines already in service that are armed with 16 missiles, the following five submarines under construction are to be armed with 20 ballistic missiles. Each missile carries six nuclear warheads. With a total of 120 warheads on each vessel, the Russian navy hasn’t seen anything like since the giant Typhoon submarines sailed the Arctic waters during the Cold War. A new American report now suggests that even more than the known eight Borei-class vessels are to be built. «Expectations are emerging that Russia will order another four Borei SSBNs for a total fleet of 12 boats, the same number of SSBNs planned by the US Navy,» Four additional Borei-class subs will add up to 480 more warheads to the fleet, and given that Russia and the US stay firm with the New START agreement, the implication is that the strategic importance of the ballistic missile submarine fleet will increase and make it more significant to Russia’s adversaries. The New START agreement limits the number of warheads deployed on each side to 1,550 by February 5, 2018. Maybe as much as 1,000 warheads The Borei-class will in the longer run replace today’s fleet of Delta-III (Pacific fleet) and Delta-IV (Northern fleet). With eight Borei submarines, the number of strategic warheads will be a maximum of 888; three with 16 missiles and five with 20 missiles. Given that the information about additional four Borei subs with 480 warheads is correct, the total number would then be as much as 1,388. In practice, not all Borei’s will be deployed at the same time due to maintenance and repair work. Also, some of the missiles are likely to carry dummy warheads for test-launchings. However, as least 1,000 of Russia’s strategic nuclear warheads could theoretically be depolyed at sea at any time. Still, no doubt; the number of Russia’s strategic nuclear warheads deployed on submarines will be substantially more than today. The Northern fleet’s strategic missile submarines are based at Gadzhievo northwest of Murmansk on the coast of the Barents Sea. Northern fleet’s new multi-purpose submarines will be armed with nuclear weapons. Naval modernization programs include work on the next class of nuclear attack submarines, the Severodvinsk. The first of these boats entered service in 2015 and is thought to be equipped with a nuclear version of the Caliber sea launched cruise missile. Also, the Severodvinsk-class will be able to deliver SS-N-16 nuclear antisubmarine rockets, as well as nuclear torpedoes. Nonstrategic nuclear weapons, like the ones said to be carried by the Severodvinsk-class, are not counted for in the New START agreement and will come in addition to the ballistic missile warheads. The Russian Navy’s only operating Severodvinsk-class submarine are today based in the Litsa fjord, some 55 kilometers from the border to Norway in the north. The second vessel in the class «Kazan» will start transferred to the Navy later this year. This autumn marks the 30-years anniversary since Michael Gorbachev’s famous Murmansk-speech where he called for a nuclear-free zone in Northern Europe. That vision seems further away today than anyone could imagine during Gorbachev’s last years in power of the Soviet Union.

Kiev residents reflect on Russia's military drills
(14 Sep 2017) Military officials in Belarus have sought to calm Western fears about major war games with Russia involving thousands of troops, tanks and aircraft, just hours before they are due to get underway.
The Zapad (West) 2017 manoeuvres, taking place mainly in Belarus this year, have caused concern at NATO and in neighbouring countries.
Some members of the alliance, including the Baltic states and Poland, have criticized a lack of transparency about the exercises and questioned Moscow's real intentions.
And the drills are causing some consternation in Ukraine.
Spokesman for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service Oleh Slobodyan, pointed out on Thursday that although there were probably not enough troops gathered for a massive invasion, there were more than Russia had announced.
And residents in Kiev appeard unnerved both at the massing of troops and by what they perceive as Russian president Vladimir Putin's unpredictable personality.
Russia-West relations have hit their lowest point since the Cold War following Moscow's 2014 annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and continuing fighting between Russian-backed separatists and troops loyal to Kiev in eastern Ukraine.
Western worries about the planned manoeuvres have ranged from allegations that Russia could use them to permanently deploy its forces to Belarus to fears of a surprise attack on the Baltics.
The war games are scheduled to kick-off Thursday evening.
Russia and Belarus have said the exercises, which last until Sept. 20, will involve 5,500 Russian and 7,200 Belarusian troops. Russian military officials have said up to 70 aircraft and about 250 tanks, 200 artillery systems and 10 navy ships will also be involved.
