Wild Mushroom Foraging, Hampton State Forest, Blue Mountains 2019
On Sunday, 7th April we went on an adventure through the Hampton State Forest for a day of wild mushroom foraging. It was a clear and sunny day, perfect conditions for some outdoor fun. We had an amazing turn out with over 35 keen foragers attending the event! We first met at the wonderfully period-kept Victory Theatre Antique Centre & Cafe in Blackheath for breakfast. We then carpooled to Millionth Acre Recreation Area for a quick briefing and rest stop.
Hampton State Forest was a short trip from the Recreation Area, where we were treated to an abundance of wild mushrooms in the picturesque surroundings. The slightly wet and cooler weather leading up to the day made for perfect mushroom conditions. We foraged two types of edible mushrooms: Saffron Milk Caps and Slippery Jacks. There were many mushrooms to pick from and everyone was able to bring a considerable bounty home.
After an hour or two of foraging, we gathered together at the foot of the State Forest where we prepared lunch. We had fantastic volunteers who helped prepare the mushrooms we foraged for the delicious risotto that was cooked by our President Daniel Frutiger and Club Secretary Alois Simath. Special thanks goes to Beat Popp for sharing a cheese and meat platter!
After lunch, Daniel organised a Q&A and discussed how you should store and cook the mushrooms we foraged. We then headed back to Katoomba for a well-deserved zvieri (afternoon tea/snack) at the unique Gingerbread House Katoomba, where we enjoyed ice-cream, coffee and tea in the afternoon sunshine.
We would like to thank everyone who braved the long trip to the mountains and who helped prepare lunch. We're glad everyone went home with plenty of mushrooms. We hope you enjoyed the event and look forward to next time! We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the Board of Directors who were involved in organising and running this event. Lastly, a special thanks also goes to Monika Gisler for contributing to the photo album with some great pictures!

The Return of Sherlock Holmes
Sir Arthur Conan DOYLE
The book was first published in February 1905 by McClure, Phillips & Co. (New York) then on March 7, 1905 by Georges Newnes, Ltd. (London) and was the first Holmes collection since 1893, when Holmes had died in The Final Problem. Having published The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1901–1902 (setting it before Holmes' death) Doyle came under intense pressure to revive his famous character.
The first story is set in 1894 and has Holmes returning in London and explaining the period from 1891–94, a period called The Great Hiatus by Sherlockian enthusiasts. Also of note is Watson's statement in the last story of the cycle that Holmes has retired, and forbids him to publish any more stories. - Summary by Wikipedia
