Slice of life Vietnam - Long Bien Bridge, Hanoi
Long Bien Bridge in Hanoi was one of Asia's great bridges when inaugurated by the French in 1901 at the height of empire building. During the Vietnam War, it was a key supply line, connecting Hanoi with the port city of Haiphong.
It was repeatedly bombed by US fighters and was bravely defended. Its war-time symbolism has made it a very Hanoian icon in modern times just as city officials are deliberating on its demolition or a major upgrade.
This video was shot in 2009 at an event held in preparation for Hanoi's 1000th anniversary celebrations in 2010.
The girls at the end are spruiking nuoc voi using rhyme and Vietnamese legend. Nuoc voi is a very Hanoian specialty tea.
Legendary Hoan Kiem Turtle Hanoi Vietnam - Last footage before he died
While filming in Hanoi with our Drone camera with YESD organization, we spotted the legendary Hoan Kiem turtle near to the turtle tower in the middle of the lake. Less than a month after we made this footage, the turtle passed away and we found out that we recorded the last footage ever of the turtle. Also, it is the only known aerial footage ever made of this legendary turtle, known as Cụ Rùa, meaning “great grandfather turtle” in Vietnamese. We made this footage on the 22nd of December 2015, one day after the official date that it was claimed the last time the turtle was seen alive. This turtle is incredibly rare as it believed that there are only 4 in the whole world. Now there are only three living specimens of the Rafetus swinhoei turtle remaining in the world.
Planet Hero feels very blessed to have seen the legendary Hoan Kiem turtle.
Hoan Kiem Lake (Vietnamese: Hồ Hoàn Kiếm, Hán tự: 湖還劍, meaning Lake of the Returned Sword or Lake of the Restored Sword), also known as Hồ Gươm (Sword Lake), is a lake in the historical center of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The lake is one of the major scenic spots in the city and serves as a focal point for its public life.According to the legend, in early 1428, Emperor Lê Lợi was boating on the lake when a Golden Turtle God (Kim Qui) surfaced and asked for his magic sword, Heaven's Will. Lợi concluded that Kim Qui had come to reclaim the sword that its master, a local God, the Dragon King (Long Vương) had given Lợi some time earlier, during his revolt against Ming China. Later, cô Lợi gave the sword back to the turtle after he finished fighting off the Chinese. Lợi renamed the lake to commemorate this event, from its former name Luc Thuy meaning Green Water. The Turtle Tower (Thap Rùa) standing on a small island near the centre of lake is linked to the legend. The first name of Hoàn Kiếm lake is Tả Vọng, when the King haven't gave the Magical Sword back to the Golden Turtle God.
Large soft-shell turtles, either of the species Rafetus swinhoei or a separate species named Rafetus leloi in honor of the emperor, had been sighted in the lake for many years. The last known individual was found dead on January 19, 2016. There are three remaining turtles of the species R. swinhoei.
Near the northern shore of the lake lies Jade Island on which the Temple of the Jade Mountain (Ngoc Son Temple) stands. The temple was erected in the 18th century. It honors the 13th-century military leader Tran Hung Dao who distinguished himself in the fight against the Yuan Dynasty, Van Xuong, a scholar, and Nguyen Van Sieu, a Confucian master and famous writer in charge of repairs made to the temple in 1864. Jade Island is connected to the shore by the wooden red-painted The Huc Bridge (The Huc, meaning Morning Sunlight Bridge).

Halong Bay Luxury Cruise | Signature Cruise
This Halong Bay Luxury Cruise was made possible by:
If you’ve never been to Halong Bay, you need to add taking a luxury cruise through Halong Bay to your bucket list! Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a good reason. It is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen! It’s filled with giant lime stone karsts that jut out of the water in every direction for miles.
The best way to experience the bay is by a luxury cruise. There are tons of cruise ship operators offering cruises through Halong Bay. The cruises range from cheap backpack boats to five start luxury cruise ships. Since visiting Halong Bay is most likely a once in a lifetime experience, we decided to splurge on a 5 star luxury cruise to ensure that we had the best experience possible!
We booked our cruise with Signature Cruise and we were elated with our experience. Seriously, we don’t have a bad thing to say about Signature Cruises, and that should mean a lot coming from me because when I splurge on an experience I am very critical. Also, the staff treated us like royalty! They made our experience even better.
Our luxurious cruise through Halong Bay started with an amazing lunch served while we were cruising to a floating fishing village. After arriving at the floating village we were rowed around the village in a row boat by one of the women who lived in the floating village. After our row boat ride was completed, we visited a pearl farm to learn how pearls are made. To be completely honest, this sounded kind of lame to me when I read it on the itinerary, but it was actually really interesting!
After leaving the pearl farm, we were taken back to the cruise ship. After an hour or so of relaxing and taking in the beautiful views of Halong Bay, we had a cooking class where we learned to make fresh spring rolls. After the cooking class we enjoyed happy hour with more beautiful views. After happy hour, a delicious five course dinner was served aboard the boat. After dinner I had the opportunity to try my hand at squid fishing. I got really lucky and managed to catch 10!

Some 1,600 islands, thick with greenery, form a maze of channels in the azure waters off northeastern Vietnam. Although people have lived in the region of Ha Long Bay for thousands of years, most of the islands remain uninhabited. But these coves and natural towers are rich with wildlife. For centuries, this spectacular seascape has inspired wonder.
The name Ha Long, Vietnamese for “descending dragon,” is reflected in a legend: Once, when the Viet people faced invasion, a dragon flew down from heaven to their defense. The creature sprayed not only fire, but also jewels that became the green archipelago.
The scientific explanation for the rock formations, known as karst, is also amazing. For millions of years, seashells and sediments fell to an ancient seafloor, forming solid rock. Tectonic activity raised the resulting limestone above water. Rainfall and rivers dissolved exposed rock, and carved valleys that flooded after the last ice age, creating this rare example of a karst field at sea.
Features include lakes and caves through the islands, and notches and tunnels where seawater has worn at the pillars' foundations. The fantastic landscape also continues into two adjacent national parks, on Cat Ba Island and Bai Tu Long Bay.
You can go kayaking, caving, or even take a ride in a seaplane to experience the grandeur of these enchanting tropical islands.

17km Walk Around West Lake in Ha Noi & Trấn Quốc Pagoda | LIFE IN VIETNAM
I woke up one morning and said to myself Hey, I'm going to walk 17km around West Lake today. And I did it. This is a little visual tour of some of the sights I was able to take in from my exploration walk around the entire perimeter of West Lake (Hồ Tây in Vietnamese) the largest body of water in Ha Noi.
Along the way, a major highlight was the Trấn Quốc Pagoda, which was built in the 6th century AD. It's a major historic and cultural relic for Buddhists and Vietnam, and has been rightfully designated so
Across the Thanh Nien road in front of the pagoda is a smaller lake called Trúc Bạch Lake, which is famous for being the crash landing and capture site of John McCain in 1967. He was then held as a Prisoner Of War for 5 and a half years.
There were many other interesting things along the way around the lake's edge. You'll have to watch the whole video to see. ^^
If you're thinking about doing this walk yourself, it's very easy. You just need a pair of good walking shoes, and water to stay hydrated. There are plenty of mini-marts, street vendors, cafes, restaurants, bars, and other places along the way in case you become hungry or thirsty.

Adventure in Hanoi x Sapa - Vietnam pt.I
Vietnam was my first long-distance travel and it couldn't have been better. First of all, Vietnam is very travelers-friendly; we never felt uncomfortable, the infrastructure is perfect and nature is breathtaking. Besides that, everything is very affordable from food to accommodation. Going with a small group of close friends allowed us to be very flexible.
Because we had so much footage, we decided to split the experience into 5 episodes. The first part was the North of Vietnam: Hanoi and Sapa. The perfect locations to start your Vietnam trip. Hanoi is just chaos but that's what makes it special. Sapa was my favourite part of the whole trip and one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
5 parts filmed in 26 days, 2018 itinerary: Hanoi - Sapa - Hanoi - Ninh Binh - Ha Long Bay - Phong Nha - Hué - Hoi An - Nha Trang - Mui Né - Ho Chi Minh City

The Legend Makers is such an emotional movie about the Vietnam War.
The movie is set in the era of the war against Americans in the 1960s, when the demand of petroleum in the Southern battlefield urgently increases.
For seven years (1968-1975), under the command of General Dinh, gasoline soldiers have overcome numerous hardships and dangers to construct the 5,000 kilometer-pipeline, with a system of 100 storage facilities running all the way from North to South.
How can they make such amazing achievements during the intense war time?

LONG BIEN BRIDGE, HANOI Vietnam: Journey Across Long Bien Bridge - HANOI, Vietnam
Come with us on a journey on foot across Long Bien Bridge, Hanoi, Vietnam. Along the way, you will see the congested motorcycle traffic making its way across both sides of the bride, which crosses the red River. You will also witness locals taking their exercises on the bridge and witness the arrival of the longest train in Vietnam, as it arrives at Long Bien Station. Long Bien links the two Hanoi regions of Hoan Kiem and Long Bien Bridge was built between 1899-1902 and was opened in 1903, so it 112 years old at the date this video was uploaded. It was originally called the Paul Doumer Bridge and was designed by Gustav Eiffel, the same architect who designed the Eiffel Tower, in Paris. At 2.4 km (1.5 miles) long, it was one of the longest bridges in Asia when it was built. It was attacked by the Americans during the Vietnam war, when the centre span was knocked out in 1967, but this did not cause too much disruption. However, it was rendered unusable for a year when it was hit by laser guided smart bombs in May 1972.
HANOI-My Favorite City in Vietnam!
My first stop during my 2 week visit to Vietnam was Hanoi. Hanoi is the real deal. It has the hustle and bustle of a large city but doesn't feel like one. You can always hear the roar of thousands of motor scooters, can smell the food from the large food market or local Pho shops, can see the influence of the French in The French Quarter, and can feel the vibe in The Old Quarter. You can visit the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, the Presidential Palace, the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, Bach Ma Temple, and the Night Market. There's so much to see and do and I was sad to leave.
