Hi family! Alright...so this overnight train ride to Hanoi was not the most pleasant for me; however, it is still a great way to travel Vietnam. Here are some things I'd recommend you doing if you are considering taking the sleeper train:
-DO bring food & snacks! No food cart rolled around during the entire 16 hour train ride. I kept trying to listen for the wheeling of the cart and even left my door open around dinner time. There was nothing. There was water and hot water though :) Cup o noodles team!
-DO bring jacket, scarf, or sarong that you can wear. It gets COLD at night especially as we get closer North. You can even lay them down if you're afraid of unclean bedsheets.
-DO check the door & lights in your room when you arrive in case there's some kind of malfunction. You may be able to ask the train staff (who come around sometimes) to switch to another one.
-DON'T talk super loudly and be mindful of other passengers in the room. A man ended up taking the berth next to me at 12am and was talking on the phone for a whole hour :/
-DON'T buy your tickets online if you can just get it at the station a few days earlier or even a day earlier! I met a couple of travellers who just showed up that day and booked. It is always cheaper way cheaper at the train station. OR ask your hotel staff to help you book it. Don't go to a tour agency - they'll charge you lots. I was traveling during TET so had no choice but to secure it online. If you're on last resort - check out 12go.asia (the site I use for train & ferry travel in Southeast Asia).
If you don't want to take a sleeper train but still want to experience it, take the Vietnam railway train from Hue to Danang or Danang to Hue. It is a 2.5 hour train ride with breathtaking views of Vietnam's coastline! You can just get a regular seat, no sleeper needed.
While this train ride didn't go so well for me, I know the experience is different for everyone. Take it or not, it's up to you :)! It IS way better than the overnight busses - or so I heard.
Thank you for tuning in! Hope this information helps you when traveling in Vietnam!

Vietnam Railways, Hanoi to Hue in Soft Sleeper Class - 4K
Darkness has fallen as we join our train for the overnight trip from Hanoi to Hue. There are just two of us in our soft sleeper compartment capable of sleeping four. The two vacant bunks are handy for storing our cases leaving plenty of room to spread out. The lights of Hanoi fade as we leave the city behind and get ready to settle down for the night. After a surprisingly good night’s sleep we awaken to a mist covered landscape as our train cautiously makes its way over a section of flood damaged track next to a river already busy with all kinds of boats. The mist begins to lift, revealing an attractive tropical landscape covered in thick vegetation, eventually giving way to flooded fields interspersed with small towns and villages. Finally we leave the train at Hue visiting some local highlights on our way to the luxurious Indochine Palace hotel.

HANOI TRAIN STREET | Vietnam Travel Guide
Hanoi Train Street is a must see if you want an adventure. Enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the many train track coffee shops, and then be prepared to make way for the train thundering down the streets.
We experienced Hanoi Train Street from the Lê Duẩn section since the the trains come at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm. The trains in the Old Quarter section pass through at 6 am and 7 pm on the weekdays and numerous times on the weekends.

Vietnam Railways, local train for Haiphong from Hanoi
Manila to Vietnam: Riding the Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi Train
This trip took place in March 2019 as part of my multi-city journey from Macao to Vietnam. Several trains operate on this route, but I chose to ride Vietnam Railways SE6 as it was then the most convenient one for me in terms of schedule. I paid around đ1,643,900 (equivalent to ₱3,611 or US$70) via a website called Baolau, which was recommended by Seat61, and stayed in a four-bed soft sleeper berth. For more information about this trip, please leave a comment below or regularly visit tripzilla.ph for my articles about Vietnam.

FIRST CLASS Vietnam Overnight Train - Hanoi to Hue
I love overnight transport. So when I heard we were going to be doing an overnight train in Vietnam, I was so excited. However, Vietnam does have a reputation for some crazy train travel. I was so surprised how amazing our sleeper train was.

Vietnam 2018 Hanoi to Hue by train
Travel by railway is a very relaxing way to see a country. This is the first part of my journey from Hanoi to Saigon via Hue. On this section I elected to sit in an air conditioned 'soft seat' compartment. This is not a 'jump on jump off' train. if you want to break your journey at a particular stop along the line, you must purchase a separate ticket. The section from Hanoi to Hue cost me approximately $27.70 Australian or 455,000 Vietnamese Dong. I purchased both of my tickets through a website called 12Go.
All of the video footage was shot on a Go Pro Hero 5 Black which I purchased especially for this trip. I was very impressed with it as it replaced my CANON EOS 600D & did a better job!

Hanoi's Train Street in Vietnam
Every day, trains rush by on the narrow street, just inches away from residents' homes, and in recent months many tourists have flocked there to take pictures and sip coffee at trackside cafes.
