Chinese Trains - Yunnan meter gauge at Hekou. Cross border into Vietnam
My visit to the Chinese/Vietnamese border exploring the meter gauge railway around Hekou. As well as the Chinese DFH21 diesel hydraulics, one can also find Vietnamese trains bringing in long trains of raw materials. The bulk of these are ex-Chinese DFH21's which have been remotored with Caterpillar engines and are now in their own livery. Occasionally other Vietnamese can be found. This is a very beautiful almost tropical part of China and experiences huge amounts of rainfall in a very humid and hot climate. Fortunately a massive storm held off for me until after sunset and I had a fantastic day with a good amount of trains and local hospitality. Hekou, Yunnan province - 21 April 2016

Lào Cai ( listen) is a city in northeastern Vietnam. It is the capital of Lào Cai province. The city borders the city of Hekou Yao Autonomous County, in the Yunnan province of Southwest China. It lies at the junction of the Red River (Sông Hồng) and the Nanxi River (Yunnan) approximately 160 miles (260 km) northwest of Hanoi.[1]
It is a market town for timber, and the Lao Cai Railway Station is located on the Hải Phòng railway to Yunnan Province in China.
The town was invaded by the Chinese in 1979 and the border was closed and not reopened until 1993.[2][3] The town has a carbide factory. As of 2003 the district had a population of 86,855.[4] The district covers an area of 223 km².[4]

Lao Cai/He Kou is a free trade zone, so people come and go and bring stuff all the time, I have been here when there were tons of people, very few early in the morning though!

在中国云南蒙自市河口县是中国和越南的交界，这里开通了一个口岸，方便中越两国人民进行贸易交流，每一天8点中国这边都会在河口口岸这里举行升旗仪式，当升旗仪式结束，口岸开放，一群越南大妈就背着自己准备的货物奔跑过中国抢占市场，赚钱养家。
河口口岸这里可以通过用护照办理签证过越南那边去旅行的，相当的方便。

中国とベトナムの国境の土地「河口」そこには低年齢のでちゅ。でちゅ。といった置屋があるということで愛好家が密かに足を運ばす地球最果ての地。
観光客が立ち入ることもなく近くの国際空港から約400km離れている土地ということおり誰も近くことはない。

670 tons of zombie meat destroyed
Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have destroyed more than 670 tons of smuggled frozen meat, some of which was several years old.
21 trucks of the so-called zombie meat, mainly including pork, beef and chicken wings, were confiscated in a region bordering Vietnam on Tuesday.
They were burned one day later in a refuse processing plant in Hekou county, also in the same area.
The smuggled out-of-date frozen meat first came under scrutiny about a month ago, when China's customs announced it had confiscated frozen meat worth over 3 billion yuan in a nationwide campaign.
The illegal meat was reportedly smuggled into China via Hong Kong and Vietnam, some from as far as Brazil, Finland and the U.S.
