Ko Phi Phi Le Island, Thailand | Phi Phi Island, Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave | Phuket, Krabi
This review is for those travelers looking to check out Ko Phi Phi Le (including Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon), just outside Phi Phi Island in Thailand. We traveled there while we were staying in Phuket, but there are a few routes that can be taken to get there as well from Krabi or other local places.
*Watch out full Thailand vacation video here:
You can only get to Phi Phi Island by boat. Coming from Phuket, it's around 1000 Baht for a roundtrip ticket and about a 1 ½ to 2 hour boat ride to Phi Phi. Boats leave only a few times throughout the day with the earliest ferry leaving Phuket at 8:30am and heading back from Phi Phi at 2:30pm so if you are making a day trip there without staying the night, you will have only around 4-5 hours at most on the Island.
On the boat over there are food and drink available for purchase (including local beers). Cash only. The boat has seating up on the top deck which is open, or on the middle and lower levels which are covered. Getting to the dock earlier will ensure that you get a good seat.
While there are many things to do on Phi Phi, many choose to venture to Ko Phi Phi Lee. You can do a group tour via speed boat, which is typically with 20-30 other people, not very fun. Or you can get a more authentic and private tour on a longtail boat. Upon arrival in Phi Phi, you’ll be met by several longtail boat drivers willing to take you to the island for around 2000 Baht. Definitely worth the extra money. We went with a group of 4 of us and there was plenty of room, they stop where you want to and its so much more enjoyable than a speed boat.
*If you have back problems or get motion sickness, the longtail boats can be difficult when the waters are rough being very bumpy.
Its a nice ride over to Ko Phi Phi Le, about 20-30 minutes. The popular things to do once Ko Phi Phi Le is to visit Maya Bay, which was made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie The Beach. We recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds otherwise it'll be way overcrowded with hundreds of other people. If you choose to stop at Maya Bay beach, there is a 400 Baht entrance fee to get onto the beach.
The next stop we recommend is at Pileh lagoon which is very scenic and a bit more low key compared to Maya bay while allows for a more privacy and seclusion. Our longtail boat driver pulled into a small beach area where we were the only ones for about 30 minutes where we were able to enjoy snorkeling and swimming in the gorgeous waters of the Lagoon.
The trip back to Phi Phi Island is very scenic as you will be passing several great photo opportunities, coves and Pirate Cave which is popular with the tourists.
Once back on Phi Phi Island, you probably only have a short amount of time left before the ferry departs (probably less than an hour). Use this time to explore the local shops and restaurants or head to the other side of Phi Phi Island to Loh Delum Beach to relax before boarding the ferry back to Phuket. You can walk at least 100 years at Loh Delum beach and still be able to stand.
Hope this video helps plan your next trip to Phi Phi Island/Ko Phi Phi Le Island. Don't forget hit subscribe and thanks for watching.

THE AMAZING PHI PHI ISLANDS!!! (VIKING CAVE, MAYA BAY) | 17-09-2017
In this video, I share my Phi Phi island travel vlog. On the 17th of September 2017, I paid a boat driver 1,700 Baht for a 3 hour adventure around Phi Phi island.
This 4-5 minute video is a compilation of my 3 hour adventure to some of the most popular tourist attractions on Phi Phi island.
The first stop was Monkey Beach. A small little beach where monkeys run around and eat all of the rubbish on the beach. It was nice but I've been to much nicer places. Honestly, they need to clean the rubbish off this small little beach. You will see monkeys play with the rubbish.
The second stop was passing Viking Cave. I didn't get any commentary on what Viking Cave is all about. I honestly couldn't tell you beside the fact that I passed it in the long boat.
The third stop was Phi Phi Leh Lagoon. Here, we were allowed to jump off the long boat and snorkel in the waters in the lagoon. It was great. Alot of boats in the area!
And lastly, the long boat dropped me off at about 50 metres from a cargo net which I had to climb, then walk, before getting to Maya beach (or Maya Bay) on the other side of the island.
Before booking a private boat to Maya Bay, ask the boat driver if you need to climb the cargo net! I'm pretty sure there is the option to actually step off the boat and onto the sand of the beach!
The water was very warm but you'll need to swim across submerged rocks, sometimes sharp, while climbing a cargo net, to get to Maya Beach! To be honest, it was an adventure to get to Maya Beach.
After a short walk to get to Maya Beach, I got to see the very beach that was used in the film The Beach. However, I wasn't flattered at the amount of rubbish I found washed up along the shorelines of the beach.
If you want my honest opinion about Maya Beach or Maya Bay, watch the video titled My Maya Beach Adventure Vlog and you'll make the decision on the spot to not even bother seeing this beach. It is over-hyped and not worth the amount of money you pay in taxes to enter the island.

It's Brad here. My life is about fitness and travel adventure and I want to continue inspiring the world through creating videos to help inspire you to live an amazing life.
Many people that have watched my videos will often say Brad, you have an amazing life! - and the truth is... Yes! But, I was once a very sick, out-of-shape guy that spent a lot of time in hospital from chest infections and illnesses and coming from a very lonely and broken family with no siblings.
In June 2016, I started vlogging my fitness journey of getting into the best shape possible to compete in my first amateur bodybuilding competition in March 2017. I won the competition! Wow...!! I came from nothing! I became obsessed with creating fitness video courses on Udemy and Skillshare showing people how they can get into shape the same way I did.
This new life of mine has allowed me to have the energy to create travel adventure videos and more fitness vlogs to inspire more people to get out and see the world :-)
Viking Cave Ko Phi Phi Leh island Thailand
Where scafolds are used to collect nests to export for bird nest soup Ko Phi Phi Leh island Thailand
Viking Caves, Phi Phi Island, Thailand
Viking Cave is one of the most notable sites on Koh Phi Phi Leh. Located at the bottom of a tall limestone cliff on the northeastern side of the island, it takes roughly 30 minutes to get there by long-tail boat from Tonsai Bay (the main pier in Phi Phi Islands). Known as Tham Phaya Nak in Thai, Viking Cave owes its name to the paintings found on the eastern southern walls of the cave: they represent various types of boats, including what resembles a Scandinavian drakkar. These paintings are certainly quite recent, and were possibly realized by sailors taking shelter in the cave during a storm.
How to reach there: You can reach by long-tail boat from Tonsai Bay, Phi Phi Island. The speed boat tour to Phi Phi Islands also has a stop here.
Phi Phi Island Trip in Ferry - Bamboo Island and VIking Cave - Krabi Thailand
Hi Friends,
Continuing our journey in thailand, we are going on ferry ride to a tour of phi phi islands, ferry company arranged for pickup at our hotel in a tuk tuk vehicle, this tuk tuk wil be picking other passengers too from their hotels, so it is a chance for you to meet people from different countries and interact with them, we booked our ferry ride for 1000 Bahts per person, this rate may go up during peak season.
we have reached the assembly point, here we need to fill in our personal details along comunication details and they would provide us with a ribbon which we need to keep with us for the whole ferry ride.
We have some time till other passengers complete the onboarding formalities, so we went aroud the beach for walk, beach is clean andless crowdy, if you like collecting shells then you can find lot of shells here as you can see lots of them are scattered across the beach
just have a look at the water is so clean and clear,
Ferry guyid giving instructions about trip
Now we are all set for the ferry ride , lets go for it
ferry has started
Wow its awesome , you can see small small islands on you way, it is very windy and camera is slipping of from my hands, so be carefull while capturing the pics and video while the boat is moving and of course the ride will be bouncy. enjoy the sea
wow, just see the small islands, they look so beautiful and awesome and water
we are about to reach bamboo island, it is a small island and we have been given an hour to roam around, you can walk around this island aor jus lay near to beach to enjoy sun and beach, island is covered with whte sand, snorkeling kit is also provided by agency on request, so if you would like to snorkle , swim then go for it , this island is known as Ko Mai Pai in Thai, though the island is named as bamboo island, you won't find any bamboo trees here, The name of the casuarina tree – groves of which cover most of the island – was wrongly translated as bamboo
there is a small restaurent available, you can have some snack and use restrooms or just sit under the shed
we are moving to our next destination viking cave, nothing much just see the small cave, this cave is famous for the hunting/harvesting of swiftlet birds’ nests. these edible nests are believed to promote good health and to be specifically good for the skin.. Bird’s nests are sold, on average, for US$2,500 per kilo!
we will continue our trip and take you phi phi island , Pileh Lagoon in next video till then bye bye

Koh Phi Phi Lee Viking Cave - 2017
Viking Cave on Koh Phi Phi Lee. The cave it about 30min by long tail boat from Koh Phi Phi and often sold as a must see attraction. As most the tour companies sell this trip to you we decided to visit the cave. Not knowing much about it before setting off we DIDN'T know and WEREN'T told that the cave is not accessible at all! You just drive by on the boat seeing the entrance. Now some boats might have tour guides that explain what the cave is and the history of it but unfortunately our boat had no english speaking people on it and as such we slowly drove past it before moving on.
The name viking cave comes from the paintings inside it of which some represent old viking ships. However these paintings are not viking paintings and much more recent. It is thought these were done by Chinese fishermen seeking shelter in the cave after loosing their boat.
The cave also represents the a very profitable local industries: the hunting/harvesting of swiftlet birds’ nests. Particularly valuable in China where the edible nests are believed to promote good health, what rubbish! These birds should be protected!

Viking Cave Ko Phi Phi Leh Island Krabi Thailand
The Viking cave is located in the North east part of Phi Phi Le Island and is actually a huge cave with nesting sites of the swiftlet birds. the swiftlet bird's nest is a prized posession and worth it's weight in gold as it is one of the four prized delicacies of chinese cooking hence the bird's nests of the swiftlets (which are made from dirt and saliva of the birds) are harvested and processed and sold to chinese restaurants for astronomical prices lthat goes up to 2,000 US Dollars a Kilo! this is the reason why Phi Phi le island is uninhabited as to guard against poaching these valuable birds nest at the Viking Cave. It is called viking cave due to ancient paintings in the caves with boats that resembled viking ships. Phi Phi Island Boat Tours just makes a photo stop here and no tourist is allowed to enter the cave.

Phi Phi Island is Thailand's island-superstar. It's been in the movies. It's the topic of conversation for travelers all over Thailand. For some, it's the only reason to touchdown in Phuket. Even with all the hype, it doesn't disappoint. Phi Phi's beauty is a large chunk of the allure. The islands, when approached by boat, rise from the sea like a fortress. Sheer cliffs tower overhead, then give way to beach-fronted jungle. It's love at first sight.
The second part of the why-we-love-this-place story is attitude: few places on the planet are this laid-back. Of the two islands located near Phuket and Krabi, one is completely free of human inhabitants (Phi Phi Leh), and the other is without roads (Phi Phi Don). There's no schedule, no hustle-and-bustle, no reason to be in a hurry.

Phuket Vlog 3 | Phi Phi & Khai Island tour | Maya Bay, Monkey Island, Viking Cave, Phi Phi Don
Hey welcome to my Thailand travel series. I was traveling to Phuket on February, 2019. It's beaches are stunningly beautiful. The city has so many things to offer. I entirely loved being there, such a perfect holiday escape one can dream of.
Since my action Cam was fully loaded, I had to shoot with my mobile. Pardon the quality of the video please!
This video is about our Phi Phi Island and Khai Island tour on our 2nd day in Phuket. First we went to the snorkeling point where the water is shallow and turquoise water there is truely scintillating.
Then we headed towards Viking Cave. Since it belongs to the government, we were not allowed to get inside the cave, so we only had a look from distance.
Next we went to Monkey Island, again we were not allowed to go inside the island for the sake of safety from the monkeys out there.
Our next destination was Maya Bay, unfortunately Maya Bay has been closed for a uncertain period of time after sustaining severe damage at the hands of over-tourism.
Then we went to Phi Phi Don for scuba diving (1500 Baht for two people) and lunch afterwards (included within our package). Unfortunately the scuba diving video got deleted, so had to replace it with some clicks.
Next destination was Khai Island, it's a small but beautiful island Yo visit for leisure, sunbath, snorkeling and snacks. Things are costly there, I used my credit card to pay the bill since we were not carrying much cash.
In the evening, we went to a local restaurant close to our hotel, had fried red scuba with hit garlic sauce, pineapple rice (my forever favorite) and tender coconut) for dinner.
This was the end of a great day filled with so adventure and happiness. See you soon. Stay tuned. ❤
