Military Display By Portuguese Colonial Army | Vila Pery, Mozambique | April 1973
Saturday, April 14 1973.
Footage of a military display by the colonial army of Portugal in the city of Vila Pery, (now named Chimoio) at the height of the war with the liberation movement FRELIMO.
General Kaulza de Arriaga, the Commander-in-Chief of the Portuguese Armed Forces in Mozambique, reviewed the display which featured parades of soldiers, hand-to-hand fighting techniques as well as the uses of dogs and cavalry units.
At this time, there were 60,000 men in the Colonial Army of Mozambique, of which around 60% were Africans. The objective of the Portuguese authorities was to continue increasing the proportion of African troops in order to save Portugal the necessity of bringing in troops from Portugal itself to fight the guerrilla forces.

Historial cidade de Maputo
Maputo foi fundada em 1782, na forma de uma feitoria com o nome de Lourenço Marques. Em 1877 foi elevada a vila e em 10 de Novembro de 1887 a cidade, por meio de um Decreto do Rei de Portugal (formalmente intitulado Decreto Régio). Deste modo, esta última data é o feriado municipal. E em 1898 tornou-se a capital da colónia portuguesa de Moçambique

Queste breve filmato, girato nel 2010, si riferisce al tragitto da Maputo (capitale del Mozambico) a Chokwé di circa 170 chilometri. Viene effettuato con materiale ordinario tutti i giorni e con automotrici (costruite in Portogallo) il sabato e domenica. Partenza alle 7 da Maputo e arrivo a Chokwé alle 12.30. Riparte alle 14 e arriva alla stazione d'origine alle 19,30. Viaggio tranquillo e privo di disagi.
