The Baltimore Zoo was created by act of the Maryland state legislature on April 7, 1876. (Its name was changed to The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore in 2004.) The Zoo is the third oldest zoo in the United States, behind Philadelphia (1873) and Cincinnati (1874). It actually had its beginnings as early as 1862, when the first of many citizens gave animals (the first being 4 swans) to Druid Hill Park for public display

Today the 135-plus acre zoo property is owned by the City of Baltimore and leased to the State of Maryland. The Maryland Zoological Society, established in 1967, operates the Zoo under a lease agreement with the state. The Zoological Society assumed full management of the Zoo in 1984. Currently, the Zoo’s animal collection encompasses birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, representing nearly 200 species.
Animals are displayed in natural settings replicating their native habitats. The Zoo’s new state-of-the-art exhibit for African penguins, Penguin Coast, received the AZA 2016 Award for Exhibit Design. The Maryland Zoo is home currently to over 80 endangered penguins, and proud to be the largest and most successful African penguin breeding colony in all of North America.
Polar Bear Watch, the Zoo’s exhibit about life on the edge of the Arctic, features an authentic Tundra Buggy® from which visitors can watch polar bears Neva and Amelia Gray cavort in and out of the water. Visitors learn about animals in their own backyard, as well as those in more exotic locales, when they take a trek through the Maryland Wilderness, home to the award-winning Children’s Zoo, or embark on an African Journey.
Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo
Santa Fe College's Zoo Animal Technology Program is the premier wild animal technology program in the United States. To facilitate the training of animal professionals, Santa Fe College (SF) has its own fully operating zoo, the SF Teaching Zoo, which is located on SF's Northwest campus. It has been in existence since 1970 and at its current location on the Northwest Campus since 1972.
Set in a naturally wooded environment, the 10 acre Teaching Zoo is a fully functioning zoo with a diverse collection of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Supervised by the professional staff of the Teaching Zoo, the students get hands-on experience in every aspect of wild animal care, from daily care, habitat construction, zoo maintenance to working with the public.
The zoo is open to the public seven days a week and is visited by over 50,000 guests each year. As a part of the training, students are required to participate in weekend and holiday work as well as working between semesters.
The Zoo Animal Technology Program is a five (consecutive) semester technical program that offers a wide range of practical instruction and clinical experiences leading to the Associate of Science Degree (AS) in Zoo Animal Technology. The program's curriculum is a series of sequential courses based on required professional competencies.
Who Is Heather Watson?
Heather Miriam Watson (born 19 May 1992) is a British female tennis player and the British No 1. Born in Guernsey, she trained and lived at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida, United States. On 16 July 2012 Watson became the top-ranked British senior woman player on the WTA rankings, overtaking Anne Keothavong.
On 14 October 2012, Watson won her first WTA singles title with a win over Chang Kai-chen of Taiwan in the final of the Japan Open, becoming the first British female to win a WTA singles title since Sara Gomer in 1988.
In her junior career, Watson won the US Open and gold at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. She had been as high as No. 3 in the world on the ITF Junior Circuit.
Heather Watson was born 19 May 1992 in Guernsey to Papua New Guinean national Michelle and Manchester-born Englishman Ian Watson, who was the managing director of Guernsey Electricity from 1995 until his retirement in 2010. She has one brother and two sisters. Heather Watson started playing tennis at the age of seven, and at age twelve she went to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida, United States.
In 2006, Watson won the British Under-14 Championship. The following year she won the British Under-16 Championship, and reached the semi-finals of the British Under-18 Championship. She lost in the Under-18 semi-finals again in 2008 to eventual winner Tara Moore. In October, Watson travelled to Pune to compete at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. There she won the gold medal, winning the final against Kyra Shroff. Mother Michelle left her job in 2008 to travel full-time with Heather Watson around the world junior circuit.
Watson played her first senior tournament in March 2009 – the $25k Jersey Open, but lost in the second round to Katie O'Brien. At the beginning of July she became the highest-ranked British junior, overtaking Laura Robson. She achieved her first senior women's world ranking on 27 July 2009, entering at number 756. She won her first senior title at the Frinton $10,000 tournament. Watson beat Anna Fitzpatrick in the final. At the 2009 US Open, Watson was seeded 11th for the girl's singles. She reached the quarter-finals on 10 September before rain interrupted the tournament schedule. The tournament moved indoors and Watson beat second seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn in the quarter final on 12 September. She played her semi-final on the same day and was victorious against Daria Gavrilova to reach the final, where she faced doubles partner Yana Buchina. Playing on Court 7, Watson won in straight sets.
At 2009 French Open Watson and her partner were the third seeds and reached the girl's doubles final where she and Tímea Babos faced the second seeded pair of Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Elena Bogdan and were beaten in a match tie-break. Partnering Yana Buchina, that year they were the 7th seed at the Australian girl's doubles and 6th seed at the U.S. girl's doubles, however they lost in the first round at both tournaments. At Wimbledon she teamed up with Magda Linette and they were seeded 6th in the girl's doubles but eliminated in the second round.
Watson is right-handed and plays with a two-handed backhand. Her game is often likened to Martina Hingis and she has been praised by Nick Bollettieri for her amazing footwork. Moreover her great on-court intelligence, court sense and stellar timing have been other talking points about her game. According to Nigel Sears, head of women's coaching at the Lawn Tennis Association, Watson possesses a complete game, with a massive amount of variety including the consistent use of a one-handed backhand slice, volleys and angles. Others, including Watson herself, have also identified her game as similar to ATP player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga due to her big serve and tremendous athleticism.
Upon Watson reaching the 2011 French Open second round, Andy Murray commented When I saw her for the first time, I thought she was good. I like the way she moves on the court. She's very balanced. Bollettieri stated that Watson's game is based on great movement, but she's not afraid to whack the ball. She's not easy to beat. She has very good ground strokes, though she can over-hit and strike the ball a little too flat at times

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Knute Nelson (born Knud Evanger; February 2, 1843 – April 28, 1923) was an American attorney and politician active in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. A Republican, he served in state and national positions: he was elected to the Wisconsin and Minnesota legislatures, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and the United States Senate from Minnesota, and he served as the 12th Governor of Minnesota.
He is known for promoting the Nelson Act of 1889 to consolidate the Ojibwe/Chippewa in Minnesota on a western reservation in the state, and require the breakup of their communal land by allotting it to individual households, with sales of the remainder to anyone, including non-natives. This was similar to the Dawes Act of 1887, which had applied to Native American lands in the Indian Territory.
