Vilnius (Lithuanian) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Vilnius in Lithuania.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and a melting pot of different cultures. The city’s main landmark is Castle Hill with its red Gediminas Tower that crowns the steep hill and marks the beginning of the city's history. Within the tower is the Gothic castle of Grand Duke Vytautas which was built of red brick in 1419. The Boulevard begins in Cathedral Square which was where Grand Duke Mindaugas had the city’s first cathedral built behind which was situated his palace. The basilica contains a copy of the Shroud Of Turin. The Saint Johannis Church is part of the university complex. Along with its impressive altar, this modest church is one of the country’s most beautiful examples of baroque design and possesses no less than ten altars. Beyond the five bridges of the Vilnia, the artist Republic of Užupia welcomes with its state symbol of a golden angel with trombone. This old residential neighbourhood almost fell into total disrepair but a number of artists have subsequently settled there and its charming backyards have now been improved by several small art galleries. Vilnius is surrounded by forests and meadows on the banks of the Neris, a European Capital Of Culture full of fine architecture and vibrant spirit!

Lithuania is a country and the southernmost of Europe’s Baltic states, a former Soviet bloc nation bordering Poland, Latvia, and Belarus.
Its capital, Vilnius, near Belarus' border, is known for its medieval Old Town. It also has Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and the 18th-century cathedral built on a pagan temple site. Hilltop Gediminas' Tower, a symbol of the city and the nation, offers sweeping views.

Lithuania (Europe) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Lithuania in Europe.
Lithuania is situated on the Baltic Sea and has a long history, fortified castles and splendid palaces, a country that has many religious buildings and where religious faith has become an art form. Vilnius, the capital, is a city of Baroque mixed with Gothic, Renaissance and Classicism, a melting pot of culture. Its main landmark is Castle Hill with its red-coloured Gediminas Tower that marks the beginning of the city's history. The Boulevard begins in Cathedral Square where, adjoining the cathedral, is a fine white bell tower. The Cathedral’s interior still radiates a Gothic sense of space. The local people are particularly proud of the cathedral’s copy of the Turin Shroud. In the Middle Ages when the Grand Dukes ruled, the ancient capital of Trakei was the political centre of Lithuania’s power. The later built Water Castle is the real landmark of Lithuanian history. Grand Duke Vytautas had the castle extended and from it ruled a vast empire which, for a short time, stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Around forty kilometres northwest of Vilnius lies the archaeological site of Kernave, Lithuania’s ‘Troy’. The exhibits date from the tenth century B.C. until the Early Middle Ages. During the first centuries A.C., large settlements were established in the Pajauta Valley, which were protected by the Castle Mountains. On the edge of the Zemait Highland in the north lies Şiauliai, Lithuania’s fourth largest city, much of which had to be rebuilt after the Second World War and that since the sixteenth century had been an important market and trading city. Sundial Square is the city’s main landmark with its impressive sundial that was created for the city’s seven hundred and fiftieth jubilee in 1986. Full of European history, Lithuania has become a modern day country with magnificent castles, ancient towns, nature and culture and is a destination that is bound to please!

Vilnius sights & places to see are presented on a Google map:
Walk in Vilnius Old Town, one of the largest surviving medieval Old Towns in Northern Europe. Covering an area of 360 ha, you can see a very big diversity of architectural styles, it's a mix since more than one century. You also are going to see some unmissable places.
1. Vilnius Town Hall is located in the very centre of the city, in the Town Hall Square. The history of it began in the XVth century. It is mentioned for the first time in 1432.
When Vilnius city got it's city rights in 1387 it had to build an administrative office. According to some XVIth century sources, at first Vilnius Town Hall was that of gothic style and had a tower. However, it suffered from fires and invaders so was rebuilt several times. In 1799 Laurynas Gucevičius designed it in neoclassical style and it remained unchanged since then.
2. Vilnius Cathedral: a full name of which is Vilnius Cathedral Basilica of St. Stanislav and St. Vladislav, is located below Gediminas Castle in the centre of Vilnius city and it is the most spectaculous masterpeace of classicism style in the capital of Lithuania. Moreover, it is also a historical heritage.
3. Gedimino Tower & The Hill of three Crosses: Whatever where you are in the city you can't miss them, they're one of the most stunning view of the old city center. Gedimino tower it's the only survival part of the Gedimino Castle. From this tower you can admire the panoramic view. Nowadays, there is a museum inside the tower. It's a symbol reminding the torture of seven Franciscan monks.
3. Church of St. Johns / Vilnius University, founded in 1579 is composed of 13 courtyards with 13 buildings, each consisting of several blocks, as well as the Church of St. Johns. In 1985 Vilnius University was awarded European Gold Medal for the protection of monuments. You can see the architectural styles : Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism. This University is one of the oldest and most famous establishments of higher education in Eastern and Central Europe. //
4. St John's Church: Integrated into composition of Vilnius University, it's one of the most impressive baroque churches in Vilnius. It serves as a pray house, a Museum of Science and a place for solemnities and concerts. It is possible to visit the main hall of the church, but also get down to it`s basement, as well as climb into its` loft.
5. St Anne's Church: It will definitely leave an impression for anyone. It is said that Napoleon Bonaparte, while visiting Vilnius during the Franco-Russian War in 1812, was so impressed by this church that he loudly expressed his emotions by saying that if he could, he would take St. Anne's Church with him to Paris in his own palm. At first, this church was built with wood in 1394, later, wood was replaced by bricks. Having survived to the present day without changing for over 500 years, St Anne's Church is now a symbol of Vilnius.
6. Užupis district. The artistic and wacky district of Vilnius city. You can't miss the mermaid who is going to welcome you when you cross the bridge. After trying to count the locks covering this one, you are going to meet the Official symbol of the Independence of Uzipisians: The Angel (is held here since 1992). Walk around and have a stop front of the Uzupis Constitution (Paupio street).
7. The Television Tower: After this long walking day, you can enjoy having a dinner to the 55th floor of the Television Tower. There is the Milky Way restaurant which turns slowly to permit you to enjoy the panoramic view during the sunset for example. This tower is also use to do some [.....] 21litas the entrance free. Walking in VILNIUS / Lithuania around the Old Town - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Today we walk in the old town of Vilnius which is one of the largest in Europe. No vlog, no intrusive faces or talking - just walking for about an hour enjoying the flow.
We start at the Gates of Dawn enter the old town. Heading down to the Town Hall along some churches towards the Vilnius Cathedral. From there it's a little way up to Gediminas' Tower from where we enjoy a nice view over Vilnius.
A slippery snowy way downhill and onto Gedimino street and finally back to the Town Hall. A nice and a little cold afternoon (-6 °C) during the quiet winter season.

From Riga, we catch a bus to the Lithuanian capital. We marvel at the Christmas market in Cathedral Square, visit the self-declared Uzupis Republic (stopping by the mermaid, of course) and traipse up to the castle.
