EXPLORING VILNIUS, LITHUANIA | Is It Worth Visiting?
From Riga to Vilnius by Bus - Latvia / Lithuania 4K Travel Channel
The journey to Lithuania, our third Baltic country, lies ahead of us. For this trip, we bought a ticket for the long-distance bus.
It is very convenient for us. In the morning we only have to walk through the railway underpass in front of our hotel and are already at the bus station.
The bus leaves directly to the south along the Daugava. Then it crosses the river via the southern bridge, the Dienvidu Tilts. It seems that this area is mainly settled by industrial companies.
We quickly reach the flat land that is used for agriculture. The border between Latvia and Lithuania lies between the cities Bauska and Pasvalys. The Latvian-Lithuanian border can only be recognized by the trucks parking spaces to the right and left of the road. A well-developed motorway leads from Panevezys directly to Vilnius. Within the EU, the Baltic countries are also part of the Schengen area.
When driving through the vast meadows and forests, many descriptions of women and children, who had to flee from the eastern regions after World War II, come to our mind. Many have been lost and some children had to eke out a living with work on the farms for years. Some farmers would have liked forever to care for the children, but most of them wanted to go back to their relatives.
Upon driving into the city of Vilnius, we see modern office buildings and many car dealers along the street. The city provides a modern impression. Later we will also get to know the medieval core of the city.

VILNIUS FOOD TOUR // Americans trying Lithuanian food
**Sponsored by Vilnius Urban Adventures**
Whenever we travel, we try to take a food tour to get an introduction to the town and culture. This Vilnius food tour was guided by Urban Adventures in Vilnius and might just be one of our favorite food tours.
It wasn't rushed, we tried exactly what I thought we would, plus there were surprised along the way. So, it first met, then exceeded expectations!
Vilnius, Lithuania is extremely under-rated. I can't believe more people don't visit -- and some people have never even heard of it!! We absolutely loved our time in the city. Tinggly hosted us in their Blogger House next to their office in Vilnius which allowed us to explore how we wanted. Can't wait to go back!

Vilnius Higlights - Walk around the capital of Lithuania
Vilnius Higlights - Walk around the capital of Lithuania
Wherever you travel around the Baltic States, you will find them rich in history, culture, food and drink. Each one of the Baltic capitals have a unique personality and this time we visit the wonderful city of Vilnius
If a word could describe this entire city that would have to be tranquillity. Vilnius seems to be a city without stress, in particular during the summer season. People always seem to find time to relax and have a meal or a drink sitting among friends in one of the numerous terraces that populate the streets
Standing at the heart of the city on Cathedral Square, everything is within a walking distance. There is Gedimino avenue, main artery of the old town extending to the Lithuanian Parliament, Pilies street with its multiple cafes and restaurants and also home of local and international performers, then is the Vilnius City Hall surrounded by international designer brands and, of course, the celebrated Vilnius University, which is just few steps from here.
Now, if you are prepared to adventure, take the train to Trakai. It is located some 25 kilometres out of town but a visit to Vilnius simply can't go without a visit to this delightful place. Trakai castle sitting on the middle of Galves lake is like the set of Game Of Thrones, only for real. This castle was for sometime the centre of the Lithuanian Duchy, although today is the centre of Lithuanian tourism.

In this episode of Travel Man Dan I am exploring a new country and have an epic adventure in Vilnius, Lithuania!!!
It was very sad to leave Latvia-
(
But it was time for a whole new adventure! So I dusted off the magic globe and I summoned my energy to transport me to one of the most beautiful places in the world!
This episode was so much fun to film! Because I didn’t know to much about Lithuania I was excited to start exploring. As with every new city that I abruptly appear in I just start off by getting a feel for the area with a walk around.
In this episode you'll see me land in downtown Vilnius just beside old town Vilnius. Right away I got a good feeling from this city as I learned a little about the city, history and culture from my from Edgidusis who is from Lithuania ????????.
This video will show off the daily life in and around the city- I walk around the central square where tons of locals and tourists gather to hang out, eat and just enjoy the summer nights. I pass some historical buildings with a lot of cultural significance to them and they were stunning. And lastly in this video you’ll see me hike atop a mountain to a world know monument site of three giant crosses over looking the medieval city of old town.
Overall just a fantastic first day landing in Lithuania and I fully embraced being there and taken in the pleasant sights and sounds of a walk around Vilnius!
So sit back and relax and enjoy this part 1 video of The Adventures in Lithuania!!
Go ahead and drop me a comment and let me know what you think!

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, contains one of the largest surviving medieval quarters in Europe. Included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Old Town contains almost two thousand medieval, gothic, renaissance, and baroque buildings, all centered on the neo-classical cathedral and town hall. Other popular attractions include the KGB Museum, located in a former Soviet prison, and the 13th century Higher Castle, which affords a glorious view of the city center.

Vilnius Travel Guide - Lithuania Charming Memories
Vilnius Travel Guide - Lithuania Charming Memories
Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania. It lies in the valley of the confluence of Neris and Vilnia rivers. Along with Linz, Austria, Vilnius was the European Capital of Culture in 2009. The word Vilnius is a masculine form of the Vilnia river's name (which is feminine) and refers to the river surge.
Vilnius has always been a multi-national city populated with Lithuanians, Poles, Germans and Slavs from the immemorial time, later on with Jews as well. Although the original city location was lost due to erosion, the present day Old Town reappeared in the Middle Ages.
Although the Old Town is one of the largest in Europe, it can easily be explored on foot. Susisiekimo paslaugos operates buses and trolleybuses in Vilnius. A single ticket for either bus or trolleybus use costs €1(, purchased from the driver (cash only) or ~€0.70/30min if a Vilniečio kortelė (Vilnius Citizen Card) is purchased from a kiosk, PayPost outlet, Post office or Maxima supermarket for €1.50. When changing buses, you need a new paper ticket.
There are several well known foreign car rental companies as well as several domestic companies in Vilnius. City-Bee operates a car sharing network where you can rent a car by the hour. There is no contract nor monthly fee, you pay only for the service when you use the car, no parking expenses when you are not using it. There are 13 pick-up points throughout the city, mostly in the centre and some relevant points in northern districts.
Vilnius Old Town is a city area which began to develop extensively around the Middle Ages and it eventually became surrounded by a defensive wall after some time. The wall was distinguished by its strong surroundings and its shape for a long period of time, but this area is now called Old Town and has a separate status in the Vilnius administrative division. While the urban structure reflects the earliest development from c. 14th century, the architecture of the buildings is mostly from Baroque and Classicism periods with some examples of Renaissance and Gothic, to a lesser extent. One should keep in mind that medieval Vilnius was once a wooden city. The huge fires ravaged Vilnius several times since 1513 to 1749. Therefore, many buildings of the 19th and 20th centuries (still considered new) have Gothic and Renaissance cellars, many of which now are occupied with restaurants, bars or shops. One particular nice area is a block of artisan guilds that is notorious because of its evil fate: 6 Sep 1941 the two Jewish ghetto, commonly known as Vilnius Ghetto, were established. The ghetto operated until 24 Sept 1943. In 1994, the Old Town was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In both Old Town and the Centre there are plenty of cafés. You simply can walk and choose the one you like or ignore if not in mood, not much effort is needed. There are chains of coffee shops and you can easily find them without a guidance.
There are 65 churches in Vilnius. Like most medieval towns, Vilnius was developed around its Town Hall. Pilies Street, the main artery, links the Royal Palace with Town Hall. Other streets meander through the palaces of feudal lords and landlords, churches, shops and craftsmen's workrooms. Narrow, curved streets and intimate courtyards developed in the radial layout of medieval Vilnius.
