Vincent van Gogh, a walk to the cemetery in Auvers-sur-Oise
A Periscope broadcast from Auvers-sur-Oise where Vincent van Gogh and his brother are buried. This year it's 125 years ago Vincent died in the Auberge Ravoux. I walked past the famous church Vincent painted in the last 70 days of his life he spent in this part of France. It was a very nice unexpected and emotional experience, thank you my Periscope friends for joining on this walk.

Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise, the Last Works, and the Artist’s Reputation
John Walsh
Friday, April 26, 2019, 1:30 pm
In May 1890, after a prolonged breakdown, van Gogh moved to Auvers-sur-Oise, a town 20 miles from Paris, to be cared for by a well-known homeopath, Dr. Paul Gachet. For two months, he worked hard when his health and the weather permitted. His landscapes from the last months of his life are broadly and forcefully painted, and there are a few heartfelt portraits. He died in midsummer by his own hand. This lecture considers the power of these last paintings as well as van Gogh’s lack of financial success and fame during his lifetime, the posthumous steep rise of his reputation and influence, and the Romantic myths that infuse his biography.
Generously sponsored by the John Walsh Lecture and Education Fund and the Martin A. Ryerson Lectureship Fund.
Note: This lecture is the sixth and final in the series Vincent van Gogh’s Turning Points.

Auvers-sur-Oise, My walk in Vincent's footsteps (long version)
I hope you enjoy my photographs along with some of Vincent van Gogh's paintings he painted while he lived in Auvers-sur-Oise France.
Walking in Vincent van Gogh's footsteps in Auvers was a dream come true for me. To walk the same paths he walked, to see what he saw, what he painted....surreal. Photographing this beautiful village he loved dearly, where this gifted man spent the last 70 days of his life and breathed his last breath was an emotional experience. A privilege and an honor I will never forget. I hope I did him justice in my 1st ever photo tribute. RIP Vincent. We are all blessed you captured your world with your gifts; your heart and art.

Final Resting Places: Théodore and Vincent van Gogh
Since Auvers-sur-Oise became so accessible to Paris by train in 1842, being only about an hour's journey away, it was popular as a place for a country house, a Sunday outing, a fishing trip ... quite a few Impressionist artists painted here, and several are laid to rest in this rural cemetery.
The clip is not longer because there were so many tourists present here from all over the world, and I didn't want to tell anyone to get out of the way, nor did I care to record them on digital video.

Vincent van Gogh: ' Les Vessenots in Auvers'
This landscape of 'Les Vessenots,' on the outskirts of Auvers, shows a group of old country cottages placed just below a raised horizon; further down, wheat fields stretch to the bottom of the canvas, broken only by a few swaying trees. The narrow colour range—mainly bright greens and yellows—and the nervous, agitated brushstrokes following a repetitive, undulating rhythm, are characteristic of the artist's work in his final period.
Van Gogh painted a large number of landscapes in the weeks before his death, always working outdoors. By that time, he was prey to all manner of conflicting moods: the vast expanses of fertile cropland gave him a sense of freedom, but at the same time intensified the feeling of melancholy and loneliness which would eventually lead to his suicide.
