VINEGAR HILL
Battle of Vinegar Hill, Enniscorthy, Ireland, 1798 (Pisadas pelo Mundo)
The Rebellion of 1798, led by the United Irishmen, and based on the principles of the French Revolution of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, was an attempt to achieve a democratic and equal Ireland. The Rebellion lasted from May to September 1798, and in County Wexford alone, some 20,000 people lost their lives in a four week period. The last major battle of the Rebellion, the Battle of Vinegar Hill, which took place on 21st June 1798, was the last major battle on Irish soil, The Rebellion was the start of a 125 year battle for Irish democracy and independence, that ended on 21st January 1919 with the meeting of the First Dáil (Irish Parliament) in Dublin.

Vinegar Hill Windmill , Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford
Vinegar Hill Windmill is a small-scale circular single-bay, single-stage windmill, dating from between 1600 and 1798. It sits on a piece of elevated ground, and is of a brick and dressed stone construction.
The windmill was the command centre for the Irish rebel camp during the 1798 Rebellion on Vinegar Hill, and they flew their banner from the windmill.
Enniscorthy 1798 Vinegar Hill Day - 21st June 1998
Found this old VHS cleaning out the house. Recorded from an old tv broadcast. Bit choppy in parts but otherwise watchable. If anyone out there wants to give digitizing this again a go please let me know. The tape is fine, its just my VHS player that is causing a lot of the problems.

1798 Reenactment - Battle of Vinegar Hill
The Battle of Vinegar Hill was an engagement during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 on 21 June 1798 when over 15,000 British soldiers launched an attack on Vinegar Hill outside Enniscorthy, County Wexford, the largest camp and headquarters of the Wexford United Irish rebels. It marked a turning point in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, as it was the last attempt by the rebels to hold and defend ground against the British military.
The battle was re-enacted on the weekend of the 4th and 5th of August with visitors and volunteers being given the opportunity to experience life as an 18th-century redcoat at Enniscorthy Castle or to learn about the pikemen of Wexford at the National 1798 Rebellion Centre in Enniscorthy.
A fantastic weekend was had by everybody, including over 100 pikemen, 60 redcoats and 2,000 visitors for our inaugural battle re-enactment.
Paramorotor flight to Vinegar hill Enniscorthy
A short flight from Oulart to Vinegar hill on a nice Summer evening on the 23rd June 2014. I saw a microlight on the ground getting ready for flight and met him in the air 10 minutes later. Cool.
The Battle of Vinegar Hill
This is a short video taken from Tony Robinson's Australia series, explaining the events surrounding the second battle of Vinegar Hill in New South Wales, Australia which took place following a break out from Castle Hill convict farm in 1804. Following the escape about 200 rebels/convicts rose against the British Redcoats close to Rouse Hill. The uprising was unsuccessful and has largely been forgotten till now but thanks to a small group called the Friends of Vinegar Hill it has slowly begun to take its place in the annals of Australian History where it so deserves to be.
It is surely one of the most important and significant chapters in Australias colourful and chequered past.
The award winning author and historian Lynette Ramsey Silver has published a very fascinating and captivating book called Australia's Irish Rebellion: The Battle of Vinegar Hill
The story is one of failed escape attempts, mutiny, wild rumours, conspiracies, betrayals and personal tragedy.
A great tale which merits a bigger audience. Enjoy!!
