Day 60: Today we check out the highly recommended Wanganui Riverside Market before doing a walk around Virginia Lake! Check out the New Zealand travel vlog now!
Yesterday - Day 59 -
Tomorrow – Day 61 –
About this video:
Today we are following local recommendations to check out the Wanganui Riverside Market before heading off to the beautiful Virginia Lake in Wanganui!
On the banks of the Whanganui River, we see what a traditional Kiwi farmers market looks like, full of crafts and food. We have a quick look around before heading to Virginia Lake Reserve in Wanganui with a series of walks around a lake. Virginia Lake is a stunning city park in Wanganui full of birds and plants. It’s an awesome way to spend the morning and stretch our legs before we hit the road to Ohakune.
We end our time in the city of Wanganui with the Virginia Lake then head straight to Ohakune on a road with waterfall lookouts and rolling hill scenery. We hope to either do some mountain biking or snowboarding tomorrow, so join us then!

Virginia Lake Higginbottom Fountain
One of the many sights to see at Virginia Lake, Whanganui, is the Higginbottom Fountain, a unique coloured floating fountain in the form of a huge water lily. Several hundred water jets work in a cycle of spouting patterns, and at night, 15 lamps illuminate the jets in multiple colours. Have a gander at this video - oh - and keep an eye out for a cheeky black swan photo-bombing :)

Virgina Lake Wanganui
One of Wanganui’s premier parks, Virginia Lake (Rotokawau) offers a range of activities including a 25 minute woodland walk around the lake. The birdlife, both on and around the water, is a major attraction and this is complemented by an aviary. Thanks to the locals and Amber from Wales.

Your Guide to Wanganui - New Zealand
Wanganui - The River City
75km northwest of Palmerston North, the district of Wanganui (or 'Whanganui' -- either is acceptable) is rich in both Maori history and the conveniences of modern, urban life. The river of the same name (on which the main city stands), is a kayaker's delight, at 260km long, while the area's stunning scenery and ease of access make it a popular destination for holidaymakers.

It’s Day 59 of New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year where we are challenging ourselves to do 365 Days: 365 Activities in New Zealand! Today we are exploring the city of Wanganui! What’s more all the things we are going to be doing are free (or very very cheap).
