Driving Through Lee Highway (Rt 29) - Arlington, Virginia , USA | Residential Areas
Lee Highway (also known as Rt. 29) is one of several main thoroughfares through Arlington.
_____________________________________________________
The Lee Highway was a national auto trail in the United States, connecting New York City and San Francisco, California, via the South and Southwest. After receiving a letter on January 15, 1919, from Dr. Samuel Myrtle Johnson of Roswell, New Mexico, David Carlisle Humphreys of Lexington, Virginia, put out a call for a meeting in Roanoke, Virginia, to form a new national highway association. On December 3, 1919, five hundred men from five states met in Roanoke to officially form the Lee Highway Association. The auto trail was named after Robert E. Lee

Introduction to Arlington, Virginia.
Arlington is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, on the west bank of the Potomac River directly across from Washington, D.C. Although sometimes referred to as a city, Arlington is actually a county which contains no incorporated towns or cities within its boundaries. Originally part of the 10-mile square area set aside in 1791 for the nation’s capital, the land now comprising Arlington County was returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia by the U.S. Congress in 1846 and was known at the time as Alexandria County. In 1852, the independent City of Alexandria was incorporated from a portion of the County, leading to confusion, as two adjacent municipal entities continued to share the same name (Alexandria). The confusion was resolved in 1920, when Alexandria County renamed itself Arlington County, borrowing its name from the Arlington National Cemetery, which had been established during the Civil War on the grounds of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's former home, Arlington House.
Although best known generally as the home of the Pentagon, The Iwo Jima War Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery, the County is also an important employment center. The Federal Government accounts for the lion's share of the roughly 200,000 jobs in Arlington, but high-tech companies have become increasingly prominent, as have several major associations, Fortune 500 companies, and other nationally known employers. The County’s residential population is among the most highly educated in the nation and is increasingly diverse. Arlington is the home of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and is serviced by the Orange, Blue and Yellow lines of the Washington Metro. The County is traversed by two Interstate highways, I-66 and I-395; as well as by the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
Arlington Area Attractions
The name Arlington is synonymous in many people's minds with Arlington National Cemetery, the most famous national cemetery in the United States. Veterans from all the nation's wars are buried in the cemetery, as are two former Presidents (John F. Kennedy and William Howard Taft). Also located in Arlington are the Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, and several notable memorials, including the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial), the U.S. Air Force Memorial, and the Women in Military Service for America Memorial.
Other attractions in Arlington include the Arlington Arts Center, founded in 1976 and housed in the historic Maury School; the Arlington Historical Museum, housed in a two-story brick structure built in 1891 and currently standing as the oldest school building in Arlington County. The Ball-Sellers house, a one-room log cabin with a loft built by a farmer named John Ball in 1742, is a rare example of an ordinary person's dwelling of the 1700s. The Ellipse Arts Center is a 3,000 square foot visual arts facility which opened in 1990, and presents a diverse schedule of high quality programs in the visual arts. A wealth of other attractions abound in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including the following:
The National Mall
Ford's Theatre
The National Archives
National Air and Space Museum
International Spy Museum
Lincoln Theatre
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Chinatown
African American Civil War Memorial
Blair House
Folger Shakespeare Library
National Geographic Society
Frederick Douglass National Historic Site
National Building Museum
Visitors to Arlington can take the very short trip to the other side of the Potomac, where the city of Washington hosts several major league professional sports franchises. These include football's Redskins (NFL), baseball's Nationals (MLB), basketball's Wizards (NBA) and Mystics (WNBA), hockey's Capitals (NHL), soccer's DC United (MLS), and lacrosse's Bayhawks (MLL).

Will God Bring Judgement on America for Slavery? (Updated Audio)
Once a month I travel up to Richmond, VA. to teach on apologetics at No Ceilings Bible Study. This is a clip from the end of Part 1 of a series I taught on what philosophers call “The Problem of Evil (and Suffering)”. As I say all the time, one of my ministry goals is to draw from the range of apologetics resources that we as Christians have at our disposal and contextualize them such that the specific questions about and objections to Christianity that have been gaining traction in the African American community and among people of African descent in the Western World. At the end of this session a question was asked that really captures how the specific concerns we face in doing “urban apologetics” intersects with the fundamental issues that one would find in any other context. As I tackled the question, “Will God Bring Judgment on America for Slavery?”, I cited quotations from David Walker’s Appeal, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson. I have provided the sources for those quotes.

Quote 1:
In fact, they are so happy to keep in ignorance and degradation, and to receive the homage and the labour of the slaves, they forget that God rules in the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth, having his ears continually open to the cries, tears and groans of his oppressed people; and being a just and holy Being will at one day appear fully in behalf of the oppressed, and arrest the progress of the avaricious oppressors; for although the destruction of the oppressors God may not effect by the oppressed, yet the Lord our God will bring other destructions upon them--for not unfrequently will he cause them to rise up one against another, to be split and divided, and to oppress each other, and sometimes to open hostilities with sword in hand. Some may ask, what is the matter with this united and happy people?--Some say it is the cause of political usurpers, tyrants, oppressors, &c. But has not the Lord an oppressed and suffering people among them? Does the Lord condescend to hear their cries and see their tears in consequence of oppression? Will he let the oppressors rest comfortably and happy always? Will he not cause the very children of the oppressors to rise up against them, and oftimes put them to death? God works in many ways his wonders to perform.
David Walker
David Walker’s Appeal (2nd. Ed. 1830)
Quote2:
“The Almighty has His own purposes. Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh. If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives to both North and South this terrible war as the woe due to those by whom the offense came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a living God always ascribe to Him? Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
Abraham Lincoln
Second Inaugural Address March 4 1865
Quote 3:
“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever: that considering numbers, nature and natural means only, a revolution of the wheel of fortune, an exchange of situation, is among possible events: that it may become probable by supernatural interference! The Almighty has no attribute which can take side with us in such a contest.”
Thomas Jefferson

THE PGRNA PREAMBLE: We, as Afrikan people in North America, Having been brought to this continent in chains and on slave ships, after being kidnapped from our Afrikan motherland by white slave traders and having survived a bloody middle passage in which millions of our people were dropped into the Atlantic Ocean, and Having developed into a New Afrikan nation on the North American continent as our foreparents survived slavery, murder, brutality, discrimination, exploitation, cultural rape, and other forms of genecide and inhumanity at the hands of various European and American white supremacist governments, nations, organizations and individuals, and Having been conscious of ourselves as a nation before 1750, and having, some of us, fought against European and American white supremacists for the independence of our people even before the law of the nation oppressing us had made clear, by 1660, that We would not be permitted to join their White nation being established here, and Having, since our arrival at Jamestown in 1619 fought for and established independent communities in the woods in the Afrikan tradition of self-government and state-building followed by our people whenever, and for whatever reasons, Afrikans are separated from a parent family, and Having from the beginning of our nation been immersed in a war against the white nations of Britain and France and Spain and Holland as their governments and people strove to enslave us and keep us enslaved in North America, and Having again and again, in place after place in the midst of this war of defense and liberation, fought for and established the foundations of independent Black states in areas now occupied as states by the United States of America, and Having through our Generals Gabriel Prosser, Denmark Vessey, Nat Turner and Harriet Tubman undertaken to free ourselves from slavery and to liberate from the white nation in North America the area of Richmond, the area of Charleston, and a long expansion of mountains and forests, running from Virginia south and westward into Louisiana and other areas, and Having undertaken during and after the Civil War to establish, by armed struggle and negotiations, independent land in North America, for the New Afrikan Nation from the United States, on numerous occasions, and Our great leader Marcus Garvey and his followers having lifted the national consciousness of the New Afrikan people in North America to fresh heights in the 1920s, and the Master Drew Ali, and the honorable Elijah Muhammad having continued this work, and El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, Malcolm X, having brought to our people a renewed and fervent commitment to liberate the New Afrikan Nation in North America, so that We as a people and as a Nation may take our place, as a respected and contributing member of the World Family of Free Nations, and The Provisional Government of our nation, the Republic of New Afrika, in 1968 having organized our struggle for independence and state power in accordance with the current principles of international law, and being desirous of peace but committed to war as necessary for our freedom and independence; Do hereby affirm the role of the Provisional Government of the Republic of New Afrika in the struggle for independence and state power, and Do hereby recognize the importance and necessity of the campaigns of all the nation's armed freedom fighting forces, fighting in accordance with international law, including the Geneva convention, and do hereby Declare this Code of Umoja as the Constitution of the developing New Afrikan Nation State in North America, the Republic of New Afrika. FREE THE LAND BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT UNTIL INDEPENDENCE IS WON!

Los Angeles Museum Of The Holocaust
The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH) is a museum in Pan Pacific Park, within the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, California
It is dedicated to the remembrance and preservation of the history, stories, victims, and tragic events of the Holocaust during World War II. Founded in 1961, the museum is purported to be the oldest museum of its kind in the United States.
LAMOTH is always free for visitors and students, because the founding survivors insisted that no one ever be turned away from learning about the Holocaust.
In 1961, a group of survivors at Hollywood High School taking English as a second language classes found one another and shared their experiences. They discovered that each of them had a photograph, concentration camp uniform, or other precious primary source object from the Holocaust era. They decided that these artifacts needed a permanent home where they could be displayed safely and in perpetuity. They also wanted a place to memorialize their dead and help to educate the world so that no one would ever forget. Some of these founding survivors remain active on the LAMOTH Board of Directors today.

Lyrics:
And this is how it starts
You take your shoes off in the back of my van
My shirt looks so good
When it's just hanging off your back
And she said use your hands and my spare time
We've got one thing in common it's this tongue of mine
She said she's got a boyfriend anyway
There's only minutes before I drop you off
And all we seem to do it talk about sex
She's got a boyfriend anyway
She's got a boyfriend anyway
I love your friend when I saw his film
He's got a funny face but I like that because he still looks cool
She's got a boyfriend anyway
She's got a boyfriend anyway
Now we are on the bed in my room
And I'm about to fill his shoes
But you say no
But do you say no
Does he take care of you
Or could I easily fill his shoes
Do you say no
Do you say no
And now we're just outside of town
And you're making your way down
She's got a boyfriend anyway
She's got a boyfriend anyway
And I'm not trying to stop you love
But if we're gonna do anything we might as well just f**k
She's got a boyfriend anyway
She's got a boyfriend anyway
You've got your tongue pierced anyway
You in your hightops anyway
You in your skinny jeans anyway
You and your fit friends anyway
I'd take them all out any day
They've all got back combs anyway
You've all got boyfriends anyway

CEMETERY STROLL! St. John's Church (Virginia)
Time for another cemetery tour! There's like 15 of them and I want to try and hit them all and share them with you guys! This is the oldest church in Richmond and therefore, the oldest cemetery. It's located in the Church Hill neighborhood, which is one neighborhood over from where I live. I live at the bottom of the hill.
The yard surrounding St. John’s church became Richmond’s first official burial ground when the church was constructed here in 1741. Richmond’s founder, William Byrd II, had donated the two highest lots in the city for its location on top of what is now Church Hill. As a part of the colony’s Anglican establishment, St. John’s was initially known as the Henrico parish church or the church on Richmond Hill, until renamed in the early nineteenth century.
Some members were buried underneath the church itself, while others found desirable spots close to the church walls. The earliest surviving marker in the yard dates from 1751. After Richmond became the state capitol in 1780, the yard began to fill at a quicker pace, and some white residents chose to be buried in family graveyards nearby. But St. John’s remained the burial ground of note, especially after the yard’s expansion in 1799, when the city consolidated this block by adding the lots fronting Broad Street and enclosed the whole with a brick wall. In the mid-nineteenth century, after over a thousand interments, burials at the full grounds slowed to nearly a stop.
The congregation remains an active Episcopal church today. Also, the church and grounds serve as an important tourist destination in Richmond, as the site of Patrick Henry’s “Give me liberty, or give me death” speech in 1775 to the Second Virginia Convention, which was then debating whether the colony should join in the coming Revolutionary War. The Historic St. John’s Church Foundation helps preserve the site and runs its tours.
