Visapur Fort Trek | Malavli | Lonavala | Maharashtra | India

Visapur fort offers a majestic view from the height of 3556ft. Located in Maharashtra near Pune district, the trek to Visapur is one of the best treks to do in Monsoon.

About the trek

The trek starts from Mumbai early in the morning. The trek offers several stunning views of lush green valleys and small or large waterfalls. You will find decorated architecture, the old house, caves, and ruins of a large stone-built house which is also known as Peshwa's palace. There are several temples around the fort, but you will notice that most of the temples are dedicated to Hanuman as he was the patron deity of Visapur fort.

You can also witness the ten feet long iron gun of Queen Elizabeth. Trek to Visapur will refresh your mind as well as your body. The difficulty level of the trek is easy but still, there will be a professional guide with you, who will assist you while trekking.

Visapur Fort Trek | Monsoon Trek | Trekking Destinations of Maharashtra | RambleForRapture

Visapur Fort is a hill fort near Visapur village in Maharashtra, India. It is located at a distance of 60 kms from Pune and 100 kms from Mumbai. This fort is a part of the Lohagad-Visapur fortification. Visapur Fort is one of the highest forts of Maharashtra and it stands at a height of 1084 meters above sea level.

This monsoon, I headed to climb this fort although the route gets a little risky and slippery in this season. Watch this video till the end to witness my experience at one of the best monsoon trekking destinations of Maharashtra, India.

TRAVEL: Road trip from Pune to Visapur (Group of 5 people)
TOTAL COST: 300 INR (Diesel + Food)

HOW TO REACH VISAPUR FORT?

The nearest railhead to Visapur Fort is Malavli station which is well connected to Mumbai, Lonavala, and Pune via local trains. Visapur Fort base village is at a distance of 5 kms from Malavli station, so you can either walk or take a shared cab.
Alternatively, you can do a road trip till the base village.

There are 3 trekking routes to reach the top of Visapur Fort:

1)The Patan Village route: This route is time taking and you will take around 2 hours to reach the top. Do take the help of locals who will show you the correct trail.

2) The Bhaja Caves route: Reach Bhaja caves and start climbing the stairs. After climbing a few steps, look towards your left where you will see a huge mango tree. Follow the trail and you will reach a small plateau where you will see 2 abandoned huts. Now keep to the left-hand side of the hill as you climb up along the walls till you come across a small waterfall and then a small trail will lead you to the start of stairs way.

3)The Gaimukh Khind route: This is the fastest route. Reach Viraj Farms Lohagad and then take a left. Continue walking for 10-15 minutes, once you reach a point where the road divides into two, you need to take the left route and then on reaching the board with ‘Visapur Kade’ written, follow that trail to reach the top of Visapur Fort.

TIPS:
• Carry raincoat
• Pack an extra set of clothes, including socks as most of the way up is on a waterfall trail.
• Wear trekking shoes
• Carry water bottle and snacks
• Carry basic toiletries as there are no public conveniences on the way.

It is located in Pune district, 2.5 km from Malavli Railway station. It has an elevation of 1084 meters above sea level. It is built on the same plateau as Lohagad. It was built during 1713-1720 CE by Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa. Visapur fort was built much later than Lohagad Fort but the histories of the two forts are closely linked.

Visapur Fort.विसापूर किल्ला.Most adventures jungle trek visapur to Lohgad, part 1

Visapur is a fort near lonavala. Visapur and lohgad are twin forts near lonavala. The height of the fort from the sea level is 3,556 ft.
Visapur Fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin fort- Lohagad. Within the fort are caves, cisterns of water. The ruins of a large stone-built house are known as the Peshwa's palace. In addition to a huge carving of Hanuman, there are also several temple dedicated to him scattered all over the place. Hanuman was likely the patron deity of Visapur fort..
Routes: If you start from pune on the old Pune Mumbai highway (NH4) take a left turn when u reach kamshet from the highway to pavanagar village.
Ask the locals if you are confused when to take that left turn, the same road will lead u to lohgad fort base.
Along the way you have awesome view of pavana dam and its backwaters.
The road is not bad…..but could be difficult and dangerous in monsoon. You can park your vehicles at Lohgad fort base and walk a distance for ten minutes from here to reach visapur fort base which can be seen…and is not
Difficulty Level and Other useful tips:
Difficulty level is Medium. It will take approximately 1 hour to reach to the top.
For an experienced trekker it should take just 30 mins.
मुंबई - पुणे लोहमार्गावर मळवली या रेल्वे स्थानकावर उतरावे. येथून भाजे गावात यावे. भाजे गावातून विसापूर किल्ल्यावर जाण्यास दोन वाटा आहेत.

१) पहिल्या वाटेने गडावर जायचे झाल्यास वाटाड्या घेणे आवश्यक ठरते. भाजे लेण्यांना जाण्यासाठी पायर्‍या आहेत. या पायर्‍या सोडून एक पायवाट जंगलात गेलेली दिसते. उजवीकडची पायवाट धरल्यावर २० मिनिटे चालून गेल्यावर काही घरे लागतात. या वाटेने आपण मोडकळीस आलेल्या पायर्‍यांपाशी पोहोचतो येथे बाजूलाच एक मंदिर आहे.

२) दुसर्‍या वाटेने भाजे गावातून गायमुख खिंडीपर्यंत यावे. गायमुख खिंडीतून डावीकडे जंगलात जाणारी वाट थेट विसापूर किल्ल्यावर घेऊन जाते.

३) मळवली स्थानकातून बाहेर आल्यावर वाटेत एक्स्प्रेस हायवे लागतो. हायवे पार करण्यासाठी बांधलेल्या पादचारी पुलावरून डावीकडे उतरणारा जिना उतरल्यावर पाटण गाव लागते. याच पाटण गावातून विसापूरवर जाण्याचा रस्ता आहे.

      विसापूर हा भारताच्या महाराष्ट्र राज्यातील एक किल्ला आहे.

मुंबईहून पुण्याकडे जातांना लोणावळा सोडले की, लोहगड-विसापूर ही किल्ल्यांची जोडगोळी गिर्यारोहकांचे लक्ष वेधून घेते. मळवली रेल्वे स्थानकावर उतरल्यावर समोरच दिसतो तो लोहगड, मात्र डोंगरामागे लपलेला विसापूर किल्ला भाजे गावात गेल्यावरच नजरेस पडतो. पवनामावळात मोडणारा हा विसापूर किल्ला, लोणावळा (बोर) घाटाचे संरक्षण करण्यासाठी बांधण्यात आला होता.


पोहोचण्याच्या वाटा :

मुंबई - पुणे लोहमार्गावर मळवली या रेल्वे स्थानकावर उतरावे. येथून भाजे गावात यावे. भाजे गावातून विसापूर किल्ल्यावर जाण्यास दोन वाटा आहेत.

Visapur Fort | Malavli to Visapur trek

It was built during 1713-1720 CE by Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa of Maratha Empire. Visapur fort was built much later than Lohagad.

In 1818, when reducing the Peshwa's forts, the strength of Lohagad and its fame as the treasury of the Maratha kingdom, caused the English to make special preparations for its attack. A detachment of 380 European and 800 native soldiers, with a battering train, summoned from Konkan, were joined by artillery from Chakan, and two other British battalions. On 4 March 1818, Visapur was attacked and occupied.

Making use of its higher elevation and proximity to Lohagad, the British troops set up their cannons on Visapur and bombarded Lohagad, forcing the Marathas to flee. Thus, in 1818, Lohagad-Visapur was taken over by the British in 1818 AD and placed under the command of a Colonel Prother. Considering, the strategic importance of Visapur, both the north (Konkan) and the south (Deccan) gateways were blown up by British. In contrast, most of Lohagad fort is still intact.

Visapur fort was won with 389 European Soldiers & 800 native soldiers, it was used to win the Lohagad by attack oof cannons.
Fort has strong fortification wall, water tank, hanuman status, rajwada, rest rooms in mountain, shiv temple, lakes, Cannon.etc

विसापूर ऊर्फ संबळगड हा भारताच्या महाराष्ट्र राज्यातील एक किल्ला आहे.
