The castle and town of Visegrád have played an important role in the history of Hungary. King Charles I (d. 1342) made it the kingdom's capital in 1325 until the royal seat was moved back to Buda in the early fifteenth century.

Visegrad Castle - After the Mongol invasion, King Béla IV of Hungary and his wife had a new fortification system constructed in the 1240-50s near the one destroyed earlier. The first part of the new system was the Upper Castle on top of a high hill. The castle was laid out on a triangular ground plan and had three towers at its corners. In the 14th century, at the time of the Angevin kings of Hungary, the castle became a royal residence and was enlarged with a new curtain wall and palace buildings. Around 1400 King Sigismund also had a third curtain wall constructed and enlarged the palace buildings. At the end of the 15th century, King Matthias Corvinus had the interior part of the castle renovated. The Upper Castle also served for the safekeeping of the Hungarian royal insignia between the 14th century and 1526. In 1544 Visegrád was occupied by the Ottoman Empire, and, apart from a short period in 1595-1605, it remained in Turkish hands until 1685. The castle was seriously damaged by the Turks and was never used afterwards.( )

Extended version (no music):
A háromszög alaprajzú 13. századi fellegvárat három torony védte. Mátyás király a vár palotaszárnyait teljesen felújíttatta.

Visegrád of the Kings
Visegrád was one of the royal seats of medieval Hungary but its buildings were destroyed in the sixteenth century. The ruins were rediscovered during archeological excavations, and can be visited today in their partially reconstructed condition. The Museum of Visegrád presents the historical monuments of the heyday of Visegrád: the Royal Castle and the Royal Palace. For this reason, the virtual reconstruction of the medieval buildings has an important role in the film, which present three distinct periods: the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth centuries.
Visegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Visegrad is a lovely town, located on the Drina river in Republika Srpska, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This town became known to the world after Nobel Prize winner (1961) Ivo Andric published the historical novel The Bridge on the Drina.
The Old Stone Bridge from the 16th century, an endowment of Grand Vizier Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic is one of the most important national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was entered in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. In the ascendant of his powers, Grand Vizier Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic ordered that the most beautiful bridge must be built in Visegrad on the Drina river. The main architect of the bridge was Mimar Sinan, the greatest architect of the Otoman empire. The bridge of Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic is a nice example of the Ottoman architecture. The bridge is 180 m long and 6 m wide, featuring 11 arches above the river. It is the top Visegrad attraction and a key stop in trips to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Just nearby this famous bridge is another tourist attraction – Andricgrad (Andrictown). Andricgrad is a project of a famous film director Emir Kusturica, inspired by works and characters of mentioned famous writer, nobel prize winner, Ivo Andric. In architectural terms, the city itself is a mix of different eras and styles that have changed through the history of this area: the Byzantine style, the Ottoman period, the Renaissance and Classicism. Some of the main objects of Andricgrad are: Ivo Andric Institute, Memorial House, Fine arts Academy, Centre for Slavic languages, Town hall, Multiplex cinema, Renaissance theatre, restaurants, coffee bars and souvenir shops. After opening, it became one of the top things to see in Visegrad.
