Situated on the edge of Lake Benalla and surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens, the Benalla Art Gallery is one of the most picturesque galleries in regional Australia.
Within the Gallery’s striking modernist building, three soaring galleries showcase outstanding Australian art framed by views of the surrounding landscape.
The changing exhibition program presents an exciting mix of traditional and contemporary art, from 19th century landscapes to vibrant Indigenous painting and wonderful examples of sculpture, drawing, printmaking and installation art by some of Australia’s most significant artists.

Touring lands all over and this year thoroughly enjoying home. Touring this city and over the state of Victoria. The Aussie lands and bush of Victoria just gives a peacefulness I can get lost in. Australia is a great amazing place to share, live and play. The music Slovak radio symphony orchestra. I absolutely loved the Silo art projects and the information. Got some new art for my walls as well, the streets of Benalla and their skate park is also part of the adventure. The huge face on the wall and the left eye of the face is a reflective work of art in itself. Yeah!

Benalla floods almost reach the top of the bridge! This is my little road trip to Benalla, Victoria to visit a mate and found out the lake had flooded! There is also some street art and a WHIRLPOOL!!

Street Artists Converge on Benalla to transform regional town
Victoria’s first Regional Urban Contemporary Art Festival – Wall to Wall
On Friday the 27th to Sunday the 29th of March, local and international street artists transformed 13 walls in the small town of Benalla into incredible works of art.
Artists including Rone, Adnate, Askew, Ears painted murals up to 3 stories high using scissor lifts, cherry pickers and scaffold to scale the buildings to create their modern masterpieces.
Wall to Wall is the first annual street art festival in Benalla, curated by Juddy Roller with the support of the Benalla Street Art Committee. The festival is a forward thinking approach to rejuvenating the regional town.
Benalla Street Art Committee member Geoff Calvert said, “ The event has been a huge success, we’ve never seen the town so alive.”
Geoff Added, “A festival of such proportions has never been done in regional victoria, we hope it will put Benalla on the map. We’ve already had carloads of people driving from Melbourne, and backpackers coming through to enjoy the work.
Shaun Hossack, the events artistic director has nothing but good things so say about the event. “We are really happy with the response from the locals, they really appreciate what has happened here.”
Hossack believes the festival has a big future and will be looking to curate even more high profile, international artists for the return of Wall to Wall.
“Now it’s just up to us, and the community to rally the troops to get the support we need to make such an important event happen again.”
Juddy Roller and the Benalla Street Art community will begin crowd funding for next year. “We know the community understand what we are trying to do now. We have no doubt we will get the support we need”. They will be releasing a limited edition, hand-signed comic book that would be sold across Benalla to help kick off the funding efforts.
Benalla is located a short distance off the Hume Highway, about 2.5 hours North East of Melbourne.
