Krka (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Krka in Croatia.
The Krka River, and numerous lakes that contain natural dams, forms a border between North and Central Dalmatia, and travels seventy five kilometres through the Croatian hills. The best way to experience the river is by boat upstream from Lake Visovac to Roški Slap. Above Roški Slap, and before the water plunges down to Lake Visovac, the calm and reflective waters of the national park make this landscape even more beautiful. The grey rock, with its layers of reddish marl, is reminiscent of Utah and Arizona which is why the German Winnetou films were shot in this area. Twelve kilometres from Šibenik and depending on the season, various large quantities of water crash down to the Prokljansko Jezero. The water makes its way through small forests and rock sediment that have formed one limestone sinter terrace after another. The masses of water gradually advance to the most spectacular travertin waterfall in Europe, Skradinski Buk. In the Krka, nature has created a wonder, an intriguing spectacle of both water and landscape.

Take a tour of Visovac Monastery in Sibenik, Croatia - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Dominating the small island of Visovac in the middle of a lake in Sibenik, Croatia is a Roman Catholic monastery.
Visovac Monastery has been inhabited by Augustinian monks since they first settled on the island in the 14th century.
The monks that settled here fled from Bosnia during the 14th century Turkish takeover and built this monastery in honor of the Apostle Paul.

Natural Beauty of Krka National Park in Croatia
Krka National Park is one of the Croatian national parks, named after the river Krka that it encloses. It is located along the middle-lower course of the Krka River in central Dalmatia just a few kilometers northeast of the city of Šibenik. It was formed to protect the Krka River and is intended primarily for scientific, cultural, educational, recreational, and tourism activities. It is the seventh national park in Croatia and was proclaimed a national park in 1985.
The Krka National Park is located entirely within the territory of Šibenik-Knin County and encompasses an area of 109 square kilometers along the Krka River: two kilometers downriver from Knin to Skradin and the lower part of the river Čikola. The Krka National Park is a spacious, largely unchanged region of exceptional and multifaceted natural value, and includes one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems.
When you are at the Krka National Park there the three most popular features include:
Skradinski buk
Skradinski buk is a massive, clear, natural pool with high waterfalls at one end and cascades at the other. It is the lowest of the three sets of waterfalls formed along the Krka river. In an area 400 m in length and 100 m in width there are 17 waterfalls and the total difference in height between the first and the last falls is 47.7 m. Due to the wealth and variety of geomorphological forms, vegetation, and the various effects caused by the play of light on the whirlpools, Skradinski buk is considered to be one of the most beautiful calcium carbonate waterfalls in Europe. It is the largest travertine cascade system in Europe.
Roški Slap
Roški Slap, located near Miljevci, is a series of cascades which can be visited throughout the year. The most attractive way to reach Roški Slap is to take one of the excursion boats operated by the Krka National Park, although the falls can also be reached with a public road.
Visovac
Inside the park is the island of Visovac which was founded during the reign of Louis I of Hungary, home to the Roman Catholic Visovac Monastery founded by the Franciscans in 1445 near Miljevci village. The island can be visited by a boat tour from Skradinski buk.
The Krka monastery is a spiritual center of the Orthodox Dalmatian Eparchy (Diocese), which has its see in Šibenik. It was first mentioned in written documents in the year 1402 as the pious endowment of Jelena Šubić, the sister of Emperor Dušan. The monastery was built and rebuilt until the late 18th century.
