BIS Phuket IB graduation ceremony 2009
The British International School or BIS Phuket at Koh Kaew district held its 2009 International Baccalaureate or IB graduation ceremony, last Friday 22 May and we went along again to capture some of the highlights of this memorable ceremony for its successful students about to end the their school days and start university lives or careers across the world.
Dr George Hickman, Headmaster of BIS, led distinguished guests and speakers in the auditorium and on to the stage, in front of an audience of proud parents and friends of the graduating students.
Dr Jacqueline Knowles, Director, Public Nutrition Solutions, & UNICEF consultant, was the main guest speaker this year:

Kathy Manthei, a Teacher at BIS, responsible for their impressive creative community & charity activities, announced the student winner of its Creativity Service & Action IB award:

The award went to Mathilde Billaud, one of our previous multi talented Young Reporters on Andaman News, presented by Ms Knowles.
Joni Makivirta, another Teacher, announced the winner of the Theory of Knowledge award for Cameron Boyle, presented by Martin Carpenter, British Honorary Consul.
Peter Oldfield, another Teacher, announced the winner of the Extended Essay Award, for Nuttawut Koyakul, presented by Anurak Roongruang,Vice-director of the Phuket Education Service area office.
Nicholas Botting, Head of Secondary, BIS, presented the Valedictorian of Year 13, with a couple of jokes:

The important award went to Asipol Anunta-Umporn.
Victoria Digby-Johns, Head Prefect & graduating student, who also appeared as one of our Young Reporters before, gave the most important speech of her life so far:

She presented flowers of thanks to her caring teachers.

Each of the 33 graduates then went up on stage to receive their final diplomas from Dr Hickman, before they travel far and wide, to their next port of call ranging from Thailand to Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Germany, Canada, or Switzerland for study, work or even a gap year. We hope they return to Phuket one day with nice memories of this great graduation from British International School Phuket.
They all earn a deserved round of applause.
