2011 Glass Masters Series Laura Donefer
Laura Donefer is the acknowledged ambassador of Canadian glass. In 1988, as President of the Glass Art Association of Canada, she was instrumental in uniting glass artists across the country when she began publishing a quarterly magazine, The Glass Gazette, now the major voice of the Canadian glass artist.
Laura says she celebrates life through fire and considers glass as a metaphor of life. Her works are the narrators of her innermost core. It can be totally transparent and reveal what is inside -- opaque to hide or translucent and mysterious -- by giving mere glimpses of what might be there.
Making work is very important to Laura, but so is teaching. In addition to instructing at Sheridan College, her alma mater, she teaches throughout North America and beyond, including Japan and Australia.
Here is Laura Donefer's demonstration in the hot shop at the 2011 International Flameworking Conference.

Studio Demonstration: Emilio Santini & Simone Crestani
Watch as Emilio Santini and Simone Crestani demonstrate for their class, Flameworking for Everybody, where students will be introduced to various sculpting and glassblowing techniques, using borosilicate and soft glass.
Simone Crestani is an artist, a designer, and a glassblowing master. He was born in Marostica, in the region of Venice, where he still lives and works. The privilege of living near Venice, a glass capital, has given him the opportunity to make frequent visits to Venetian glass masters. He started working with glass in 2000 as Massimo Lunardon's apprentice, during which time he mastered different techniques of flameworking. He is represented by galleries in Paris, Milan, and New York City.
Emilio Santini was born in Murano, Italy, into a family with 600 years of glassblowing tradition. He currently resides in Williamsburg, VA. He has recently begun to combine his flameworking talent with furnace blown and cast work. He has taught extensively in this country's major glass schools and is a popular instructor for both beginning and highly skilled students.
